And the chances this will ever play in Minneapolis? Dare I say slim to none? Oh well, I am flying to LA at the end of the month for less (sort of, not really?) - I would certainly fly to see this musical! What great news!

Sue, if I understand correctly, you are telling us that the musical 'Moonshadow' is about to hit the stage!!!!West End!!!!! I've got goose bumps just thinking about it. Is this really happening!!!! His once long time dream, as a young Cat, is becoming a reality. I think I will pinch myself. ;D Everything we always wanted is unfolding before us. July is out of the question for me to see the musical, but if I do get the opportunity to see the musical, it will be in September or Xmas. "HOPE YOU ARE READING THIS YUSUF ISLAM"!!!!! ;D I pray it will be a long running musical. Thankyou for the fantasic news Sue!!! Who can sleep now? ;D Yes, hopefully it will get enough promotion and the debut in Northampton, will be sold out!!! ;D ;D ;D ( But hopefully, not before I can get tickets!!!) Now that would be a disaster! Anyway, if enough people go to see it and it's successful, it will have a run in London's West End. As soon as we are told, where in Northampton, we can get tickets!!! SO, YUSUF, PLEASE TELL US, WHERE IN NORTHAMPTON IS THE DEBUT TO BE HELD?PLEASE DON'T KEEP US WAITING UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE

Believe it or not, I will be there less than 24 hours! I am flying in to see Seth MacFarlane speak (I am a HUGE fan and he is so cute!) at USC Long Beach and flying out the next day. What are you doing around noon on 2/28? I am staying right near LAX. PM me if a quick meet-up is possible.

LINK - Doug Elgin mentions the interview of Cat Stevens/Yusuf Islam, by Chris Isaak For Isaak's TV show, one of his interviews is with Cat Stevens/Yusuf Islam, the often-assumed recluse star of the 1970s ("Wild World," "Peace Train," "Moon Shadow," "Morning Has Broken").
Stevens was vilified years ago after he was misquoted regarding a fatwa against "The Satanic Verses" author Salman Rushdie. Isaak puts to rest the assumption Stevens "isn't doing interviews."
"His people knew I was a big fan. Not only did he come on" for a TV interview, "he let me sing with him. And I even got him to sing one of his old songs, 'I Love My Dog.' "
There are a lot of misconceptions about Cat Stevens, Isaak says, because people don't get to hear from him much.
"It wasn't like he was weird. There wasn't a vibe that he wouldn't laugh or joke. He laughs and jokes. He's got a sense of humor."
Isaak says he's trying to delve into interviews deeper than you see on other talk shows. Usually, musicians go on a talk show, tell short stories you may have already heard, then say goodnight.

I remain dubious until we get an official confirmation for YI's website.

It's not the first time YI's website is a day or two late with news. If it's true, hopefully we should get the official confirmation by tonight.
Again with this name business, like Sueinhollywood said, who cares about the title, we will all rush out and buy the album whatever the title. I don't think we have been disappointed with his titles in the past.

Helen this is a first, but I find it hard to believe. Maybe they mean only for the album cover, as on the cover of 'Another Cup'.

It's said that he only use his name Yusuf instead of Yusuf Islam

Yusuf Islam -- who has now changed his name yet again to just Yusuf -- will release an album called "Roadsinger" on May 5.

I've been reading this for a long time now, that he is using only the name Yusuf professionally. But it seems the press still uses his last name Islam. I watched an interview where he actually said he was using only Yusuf. I'm surprised to read this here.... because I believe I read this very same thing here on majicat, but don't ask me where!

Probably a marketing thing. I think it's a good idea. Here's my take on why. If your name is unique (in the English speaking music world it is) it works.
It's unique. He is a unique artist. Look at his writing, and his life.
Other unique artists/musicians that use one name:
Bono Cher Seal Madonna
Even "Duffy"

Sue has a point, but it could be the name 'Islam' also attracts too many problems, and misconceptions. I think he's had his fair share.

Guardian.co.uk Theatre BlogWest End girl: No room at the theatre inn for Cat StevensMr Moonshadow will now open his show in a West End world premiere. Cat Stevens in 1972 ... a musical featuring some of his early songs is on the way. Photograph: Jacques Bernard/Rex Features The West End openings seem to be happening thick and fast; it looks like the next performer to stage an interpretation of his own repertoire will be Yusuf Islam, best known as Cat Stevens. The musical Moonshadow was initially pencilled in for a regional residency in Northampton before a London transfer at the end of the year, but owing to the plethora of shows in town then, no suitable space was available. So, the producers have bitten the bullet and are planning instead for a West End world premiere in the autumn. Who else can see Yusuf, opening his own theatre in the west end!!! ;D

Sue thanks for keeping us updated on all the latest news. I don't see why he shouldn't open a theatre in the West End. He should feel right at home. Look out West End here he comes!!!!! YI/CS is coming back home!!!!! ;D You lucky ducks, those who are living in London!!!!! I think the van will come in handy very well promoting the musical as well. It would be a shame to have it locked up in a garage or somewhere else. ;D
