Does this ever happen to you guys??
You listen to a Cat Stevens song...same song you've heard hundreds of times, and suddenly it sounds so brilliant to you. I had that experience with On the Road to Find Out today. I've been listening to that song for over 30-years but it just struck me anew today how fantastic it is.
First, of course the lyrics...so relate-able and timeless with a sprinkling of quirky phrases for interest. I've always loved "rowdy road," "frost and thunder," and "the seconds tick the time out" Something about those phrases always tickled me. Then of course, the wonderful melody...well structured and it is married so perfectly to the lyrics. The quiet guitar picking parts almost sound like the ticking of a clock! And Cat's vocal...well, it's just amazing how effortlessly he switches from gentle to that powerful roar.
To top it all off, I love those little "voices" in the background between the stanzas...adds that sort of mystic feel.
Wow!! Overall a truly excellent song.

Jen, It's a very powerful song and I love it. It did a lot for me way back when. I know what you mean about songs suddenly hitting you. It's almost like finding them for the first time. Great Stuff!

I definitely know what you mean! His songs have a different effect on my depending on what's happening around me or what mood I'm in. It's like listening to a different song each time!

Last week, one day at lunchtime, I was sitting in my car with Teaser on the CD player, and for whatever reason, the power and poignancy of "How Can I Tell You" just hit me.
Of course it's a beautiful song that I've always loved, but maybe it was the full sound filling that small space and my mind cleared of all distractions and extraneous thoughts that allowed it to just cascade over me like a waterfall of feeling. That's the only description that even comes close to how it felt.

Yeah Jen...the meaning of that very song hit me one day when I realized that I'm almost finished with my nursing degree after nearly 20 years and I'll be 'on the road to find out'..heheheh peace and love, Sakinah Susan
