Hi all, Here's a really silly topic for you!! I know the name 'Yusuf' is Arabic for Joseph (duh!), but Joseph has some common nicknames...Joe or Joey. Is there an analagous nickname for 'Yusuf' and what would it be? How about "Yu" (i.e.Joe?)... Just think about that one, huh? Yusuf comes home way late from a quick jaunt to the old hardware store. His wife responds with, "Hey Yu! You were supposed to be home an hour ago! I was starting to get worried about you, Yu!" Yup, silly...but curious about this nickname thing. How about "Yusie"...awww that's cute!! Well, anything's gotta be better than YI!! Hope his wife doesn't call him that...lol -jen (in a silly mood tonight)

HMM Never thought about it! How about YUIE for JOEY! Nice sound to it! But now, I have a thought! how would one make a feminine version of Yusuf! We know that a feminine version of Joseph would be JOSEPHINE! Hey, how does YUSUFINE sound!? Hey, I am just thinking of possible nakes for my child that I plan on adopting some day!
Peace,Vivian

Hahaha Vivien..'Yuie'. Sounds too much like "Baby Huey" from the children's books.
Just doesn't quite fit!

This is a tough one. I bet she just calls him "habibi" which means 'my darling' in Arabic. Hey, if he was married to me I would have alot of 'names' to call him.
Since Fawzia is from Central Asia she probably has something she calls him in her own language.
Hmmmm... Yusie-pooh..... Yus-Yus... Big Daddy Yusuf... Or maybe Fawzia reads our posts and calls him the same stuff we do...you know, 'babe-worthy-licious' and 'hunkasaurus rex'. Hey, he may not be acting as Cat anymore, but he is still handsome so it would not surprise me if his wife calls him some of those names that Vivian and I have pinned on CAT.
I wonder what she calls him when he makes her mad....hmmm another topic altogether.
Love, A'isha

Oh, I can just picture Yusuf's face when I hear all the pet names Fawzia has for Yusuf! Would I just LOVE to be a fly on the wall, and PRAY that noone has a fly swatter!

I always thought it was cute that in some of the old articles they would often refer to Cat as Stevie. There was something endearing about seeing Yusuf as a Stevie.

You know Christine, that reminds me of the BTM special where Yusuf's childhood friend is talking about how YI's dad used to yell for him, "Stevie!!!!!", and the whole neighborhood could hear him. I loved listening to his buddies talk about their childhood. peace and love, Sakinah Susan

O.K., so I did a little research on the internet and conclude that it is not common practice to abbreviate or shorten an Arabic name. So it seems, there would be no 'official' nickname for "Yusuf"
As far as endearing nicknames...hehehe...I suppose anything goes!!

Vivian and I have alot of nicknames for him. Hummingbird is right, in Islam it isn't customary to use nicknames or shorten the names. But you can still use the English name and call him variations of Joseph. My first husband's name was Joe and we called him Joey or Joe Joe. Now, 'totally babe-worthilicious-hot tamale' could be a start if we start talking about Cat. I can't help but wonder how people at the US site would react to this thread. They didn't like my 'Cat's Physical Attributes' one very much...hehehehe God, I am so tempted..... Nah, it might start a riot. Love, A'isha

A'isha got that right! BABE WORTHY LICIOUS, HUNKASAROUS REX! Right A'isha!! But friends, can you answer this question for me! Is there such a thing as a feminine version for Yusuf like there is for Joseph(JOSEPHINE)! Would there be such a thing as Yusufine! Just would like to know as I am contemplating names for my future adopted daughter!

I guess Suffy wouldn't work. Suffy is an adorable name. Maybe next time Yusuf lectures we can all say, "Hello Suffy" to him in unison right in the middle of the lecture. Then I will yell, "Hey Suffy, it was Vivian's idea to do this" and then explain that she wants to ask him a question. Then she can ask that one question....We all know the one...."What is the meaning of MBJ?" Love, A'isha

And when I ask that "FAMOUS QUESTION", I will have a paper bag over my face with A'isha's picture on it! So Yusuf will know who REALLY asked that question! wiggle drool Peace,Vivian
