OK, this thread is to discuss Cats under-rated or less known songs. Such as 'Life', 'Father', 'How Many Time'. These are songs which are underscored because of the more popular songs on a CD or LP.
What is your favorite underated songs and why?

When it comes to under-rated Cat songs, I strongly feel that Cat's instrumentals fall into that category. They were distinctive melodies with finely crafted arrangements. And the instrumentals certainly encompassed a wide variety of musical styles.
I listen to these tunes now and am awestruck by their expressiveness and beauty. And even in some of his lyrical songs, you can hear those incredible instrumental bridges and passages (i.e., "Ruins"). The man certainly had a talent for writing music in its purest form.

I agree Jan, I have always loved Cats instrumentals. I am especailly struck at the beauty of both 'The Artist' and 'Kypros' neither of which receives the acknowledgement they really should.
Another thing that amazes me is the amount of instruments Cat played and all of them quite successfully. He was one talented musician. I can not get myself to learn to play one lone guitar, and here he was with this multitudes of instruments, guitars, keybords, organs, polymoogs, penny whistles, and the list goes on. It just totally amazes me everytime I read the credits.

No way! He can't be talking about '100 I Dream'...that's one of my very favorite songs. As a matter of fact, 'Foreigner' is probably our (Jeff and me) favorite cd of all. We play it quite a bit. There is so much diversity throughout the entire cd that it's very enjoyable.
Oh, did you see the mention of them recording the bass section in Muscle Shoals? That's my home town ;D There is a little recording studio (well, it was little in the 70's, but not now) in Muscle Shoals, AL. In the 70's it was something of an all-but-run-down brick building that resembled a converted gas station or something. Surprisingly many, many famous folk recorded there. Odd huh? ;D

It is my favorite Cat instrumental. I don't know, as I listen to it I can see an artist painting a masterpiece at his canvas (Yes, Vivian, the artist looks like Cat.) It is so beautiful. Love, A'isha

No way! He can't be talking about '100 I Dream'...that's one of my very favorite songs. Isn't it nice how many people now days seem to quote 100 I Dream as one of their favorite songs. Lyrically I think it is a classic, with such lines as [shadow=yellow,left,700]'Stay true to your friends up until the end, and in this way you will awake'[/shadow] I mean how can you not like it. And then of course, add the african bungle beat of the drums. It's definately different from any other Cat song, but then again, that might be what gives it it's uniqueness. giggle

How many of you think "Drywood" is underrated? I love it.
"You say you're in with me but you only follow me around, How well you love yourself, but I don't want the kind of love you have to sit down and count" "You say you're free and lucky but you're stuck behind a prison wall...How well you know yourself, but I can see something in ya that you don't see at all" And then the backup singers are sing, 'They say that you don't mean nothing, They say that you don't mean nothing'...
THE SONG IS AWESOME I'LL TELL YA...TOTALLY AWESOME. How about the crackling wood sound that comes in at the fade out of the song....brilliant...yes?
Love, A'isha

Yes, and let's not forget those quarters "pinging" together or the lunch trays being dropped! ;D He certainly was innovative in creating those sounds in songs that are truly unforgettable. His musical abilities are very, very special. I can't even imagine a day now without Cat music!

One song not mentioned here was King Of Trees. Cat played that song in concert a few years before it was finally released on Buddah And The Chocolate Box.
