To Jane and All Fellow Majicatters Who Are Attending, Wishing you the FANTASTIC time that I know that you shall experience at these concerts! As always, I can't wait to learn of your "eye & ear witness" impressions of the shows and to view the great photos that you never fail to provide your fellow 'catters with. Finally, I found a glowing review of the Birmingham concert in the papers! The Glorious Return of the Catsnippet: ~~~~~ As the evening drew to a close, I looked around and saw that many in the audience were smiling with genuine affection for this man, and I realised also that I too had been smiling to myself throughout the entire concert – and if that is not a recommendation for a show, I don’t know what is.
Make no mistake. Cat is back. What a pleasure it was to read this review! Thank you so much for locating it and sharing, Christine! "The Cat is back", indeed, but the beauty of it all, and a reason for great thanksgiving, is that Yusuf never left. -Bud

You, all of you Majicatters out there, are truly the best. ;D THE best! ;D From the appetite-whetting and vital "early returns" (thanks, Barney!) thru the informative "ear- & eye-witness" accounts (by our fellow -- and ultra-thoughtful -- Majicat attendees), straight on to the sharing of magnificent concert (and personal) photography (as always, bless you, Sue!), and, finally, and terrifically, topped-off with all of the fantastic concert-links that so many 'catters dig out and post for us. In a real sense, you all help to place us (non-attendees) at the concert in, if nothing else, a wonderfully vicarious way. For this, and for a thousand and one other reasons: you, very truly, are THE best! -Bud

Trying to think about what photo from May that I can print out and get you to autograph for me in London... ;D Jane Oh Jane, you make me laugh, why would anyone want my autograph!!! LOL I think we should all sign the group picture of us outside Shaftesbury Bar, it's a shame we didn't get everyone on it. Well, I'm with Jane, I would treasure having Sue's autograph, as well! I really love the photo of all of you happy Majicatters out in front of the Shaftesbury Bar (boy, talk about being in the very heart of "Cat/Yusuf Land"!). I would like to join all of those wishing our friends fantastic evenings at the upcoming concerts in Birmingham and London. Can't wait to learn of your impressions and to hear all about your experiences. I'm thinking that matters are destined to go really, really well for Yusuf and for his fans at these shows. Safe travels, everyone! -Bud

(this is a big one, didn't really want to lose it in the middle of another thread)Hello all, despite there being already a wealth of reports and comments on the Dublin concert, and despite being unsure that I can add anything of real significance to the Fan community before the Dublin gig fades into memory and is eclipsed by the other concerts... I have decided to add one more post after all, with a bit more personal background... Hi Gavin, What a finely detailed and incredibly insightful report you have furnished for all of us! In a very real sense, you enabled us to feel as though we had a seat right along side of you and your party in the hall. All that you wrote is simply terrific, and so very much appreciated... thank you! -Bud

It says so much about him that he comes out and speaks so freely about an event that was clearly upsetting to him, the "Moonshadow" performers and his (real) fans. He could have hidden away and just gone about the business of putting on the next three shows. Instead he came out and spoke from the heart. I think his message is balanced with what he could have done differently and saying in his own way, how foolish some were for expecting a Cat Stevens concert. Makes me love him that much more... "Here, here!" How I wish I possessed the great ability that you do, Jane, in order to express my thoughts on this entire matter, thoughts, and my opinion, that are so exactly like yours'. As always, I am so grateful that you are a fellow-Majicatter! And, Yusuf, it is this simple: we love you. -Bud

Wow, I come on late because of a nasty headache and read this?? From the sound of it, if they didn't know Bad Brakes, then they must have been only a few hits fans. To me, some of Cats/Yusufs best songs were the ones that never made it to the top 40's hit. And he definately sang more Cat songs than from his recent CD's I just find it sad that Yusuf is trying to give us his all, and to be booed is very sad. They should have just been happy to be lucky enough to have been able to attend it. There are many, like myself, who would have given anything to go, but can't afford to fly over seas. Then to hear the boos and walk out is very disturbing. The song list to me sounded very extensive. Actually a great song list! If people would have just calmed down long enough to listen, they would have been given a real treat last night.... Well, I guess it was their loss.... I hope Yusuf doesn't take this to heart. Hi Christine, I'm with you and many others here, I would have been sorely (no pun intended!) tempted to relinquish a pinky finger in order to have the opportunity (and honor) to attend Yusuf's latest show. I have been a fan since 1971 and have never had the privilege of seeing the man perform in person, and that's what I would consider it: a true privilege. I think it's absolutely fantastic that he chose to dig into his extensive catalogue for a song such as "Bad Brakes". And I would have loved to have witnessed the preview of his upcoming "Moonshadow" stage show, as well. Please don't feel discouraged in the least, Yusuf. Those of us who love you and closely keep up with all that you do fully understand and appreciate what your intentions are in regards to this present concert series, and we support your efforts without reservation. I, too, would like to offer my great thanks to all of our Majicat friends for keeping us non concert-attendees so well briefed and informed as to last evening's events. Thank you all so very much! -Bud P.S. -- Feel better, Christine... nasty headache: "go a-way"!

Huh? Did I miss something? In recent years, Yusuf has appeared more comfortable with life in the spotlight, and released two albums, but there was an air of expectation among fans as they counted off the days until the first concerts. "I had my first twinge of real emotion yesterday when I realized I was going to be seeing you perform for the second time this year after waiting 33 years," one devotee, Jane, told the singer's official Web site. "I can't wait to see you and everyone else next month in London! I just know it will be majik!"Wow, Jane, that is so cool! (And it most certainly is, may I say, such a well-deserved mention). -Bud

Hey Bud, I think you need a visit from the OLE SLEDGE HAMMER!!! You DO remember, right!! A good old BAM BAM BAM ought to do the trick!! Peace,Vivian LOL I have to agree - sometimes a few "gentle" wacks can do immense wonders for our techno-toys! It always amazes me when I ask someone technical to fix my computer and the first thing they do is "Jiggle the insides." (The second thing of course is to blow the dust inside around.) But welcome back Bud, I have to admit I've been lost at work myself so I guess welcome back from me could have two meanings having missed you from my own fault as well. This "thank you" arrives, oh, maybe about 2 and 1/2 weeks late... But please know, Sheryl, that it is offered with sincere appreciation: many thanks are sent your way for the "welcome back". -Bud

Hey Brother Load, I sure am glad your first name isn't "Wide"! And as far as my Mom's plataeu goes, you have no idea how "far above" she truly is. She's a fine lady, a true friend, and a mean band majorette! (well, was a mean majorette) And you know, adding a sibling, via the worldwide web, could be a pretty cool thing. I don't have to feed you at Thanksgiving, I get to pick on you and you can't hit me, and you can't start fights with my other 2 brothers (which my sister and I always have to referee)! This is sounding better and better, matter of fact, my brothers are younger than me, so this could really be a good thing! I don't have to be the OLDEST anymore!!! ;D Works for me! Welcome to the family Bud, you don't know what you're asking!! ;D ;D ;D PS Who's side you gonna be on? The girls or the boys?? (think loooooong and hard before you answer that, Bud! ) Well, let's see how effectively I can type while peering through the tears of laughter in my eyes (I have more than enough trouble when my eyes are free and clear) that often result from reading one of your hilarious posts. Thank you for welcoming your 'older brother' into the family. You are correct in saying that serving me a portion of Thanksgiving dinner will not prove necessary, and, also, that you can pick on me at will... that's a mighty small price to pay in return for the designation I have received. As for choosing sides in the coming boys vs. girls/brothers vs. sisters battles... ... I'll have to get back to you on that one. Thanks, Sis! -Bud P.S. -- "Brother Load"? Why does that make me think of something such as "Brother Load's Traveling Medicine Show", or some such. If you would kindly agree, "Brother Bud" would fit just fine!

Thanks Christine, I too like Elvis Costello. It will be interesting to hear how he handles the song. Should be nice. On another note...Bud, Virgo? At your age, you know you ain't no virgo! (and if you are, we need to have a serious talk!) Also, according to your birthday(Aug 25), and mine (July 24) your Dad sure was making the rounds in his day! Oh wait, I was born in 1958, so he was not as prolific as I thought. But you know, that would make me....just a sec ,......hmmm ......hold on, .......oh, yeah ....4 years younger than you!! hahaha I'm nothing but a young whipper snapper compared to you! Does that mean I have to call you "sir"?? Oh, I forgot....we already do!! ;D Your nickname could be "Sir Bud Load"! LOL Just funnin' Buuuuud! ;D PS Anyone reading this and thinking the worst should refer to previous posts. (or get a life, whichever comes first! ) ;D Richina! ;D Actually, your Mom was 'cleared' of any possible parental impropriety in a prior post. As for my Dad, well... in his defense, I can testify to the fact that the man had brown eyes. Hmmm... but then, again, his father's peepers were blue... Anyway, that being what it may, I came up with the acronym "SFAO" for you ("sister from another other") as opposed to "SFAM" ("sister from another mother"). See? Your Mom's reputation is returned to its proper (and accurate) plateau. (By the way, as you might have guessed, the "another other" part of this title was fashioned and worded in the style of Yusuf's "An Other Cup") I guess the "other" in question is of the spiritual realm... in a spiritual way we are a brother and sister 'under the skin'. Hey, I'm very glad to add a sister (yes, I know: as you stated so clearly in your post, in this case, a YOUNGER sister to an OLDER bro!). Thank you, as always, for the lift, Richina. The good and great humor that you provide is so very much welcomed! -Bud, (Brother) Bud, (Sir) Bud (Load), -- whichever you prefer!

As you have stated, every aspect of Majicat (the people, the opinions, the shared support, the good-time feeling, the unsurpassed knowledge and information) truly "rocks"! -Bud And all of Majicat is in awe of BUD!!! ;D ;D ;D In your honor I must start that thread. The Cat's Whiskers anyone? How very kind of you, Incognita, thank you. Re: "The Cat's Whiskers" thread: yeah, why not? As the great man, himself, once sang: "Why not!...Why, why, why not?" I would quite honored to be so honored. ;D Does anyone 'second' Incognita's proposal? -Bud

Elvis Costello Covers Cat Stevens by Paul Cashmere - October 7 2009 The new Ricky Gervais film `The Invention of Lying` will feature Elvis Costello covering Cat Stevens` `Sitting`. Cat Stevens recorded the song for his 1972 album ‘Catch Bull At Four’. Right now there is no word of a soundtrack album to officially release the Costello version of the song. The film also stars Jennifer Garner and Jeffrey Tambor. The plot is about a world where no-one has ever lied until someone invents the lie. Ricky Gervais stars as liar Marl Bellison and also wrote and directed the movie. It will be released on November 29. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hmmm this will be interesting to hear. I love some of Elvis C's earlier cover songs. I have heard quite a few. Oh, how cool, Christine... thanks for posting this! Elvis Costello has the rather unenviable distinction of sharing my exact, same birthday (August 25, 1954). Up until now, that is the first thing I thought of whenever I heard or saw his name... but now I have something of more importance to remember him by. Here's hoping his version of "Sitting" does end up being released on the soundtrack recording, afterall. -Bud (Elvis C.'s fellow-Virgo)

His words and music have had a profound effect on my life for many years. I can't explain why and only know that, like many of you, the meanings change, morph even, according to whatever I may be going through at the time. The songs make me see images...like reading a book. And as reading a book, everyone sees things differently and yet the same. It is all based on personal experience, and life lessons, as to what you see when you listen. The only wonderful difference is that his "books" are set to music and the poetry is often so ambiguous that it can fill many voids at once. Some may call that "clever", I call it... "genius" and always will! Cat Rulz! Richina you are every bit of a genius as our Cat. I should now say Richina Rulz! Your line on ambiguity filling many voids at once is a gem of thought and expression. Your post here has given me inspiration for something I've been wanting to write on my blog and not quite finding the words for. Heartfelt thanks! One more "Amen" for Incognita vis-a-vis Richina! In my book, you are both students in excellent standing at the "University of Yusufology" post-graduate school (an adjunct of "The Majicat College of Musical Knowledge"*). -Bud *as overseen by 'Dean' Christine

Hey SS, It's not about whether or not you've seen him in concert, or have all his records, or any one of a hundred other things. To me it's all about how his music has touched your life or inspired you to do (or not do) something. It's about feelings and sharing a common interest with people of a like mind. You can say things here, that if you said them to the average person, they would look at you like you were a "fan"atic!! But on this site...anything goes! Love his hair? say it! Love his song? say it! You said that perfectly Richina. Hey what don't you say perfectly? This news item was posted on Yusuf's site on Sunday, October 5: -- Moonshadow In The Studio -- The Moonshadow Musical is coming. In recent weeks Yusuf has been in the studio working on the Moonshadow concept album. With 14 classic songs, the album will include such major hits as ‘Wild World’, ‘Father & Son’, ‘If You Want To Sing Out’ and many others. The actor-singers featured on the recording are the same chosen to star in Yusuf’s upcoming ‘Guess I’ll Take My Time’ tour. One special jewel of the sessions so far is a beautiful rearrangement of Yusuf’s first big hit, ‘Matthew & Son’, sung by Moonshadow actor Ryan O’Donnell. You may be hearing this as a single before the end of the year… * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * What an exciting and cool project! I was wondering if there would be a "Moonshadow" cast album... now we have something new to look forward to in this 'year of years'. 2009 has truly turned out to be 'The Year of The Yusuf'! It sounds as though Yusuf is definitely producing... sure hope he sings on it, as well! -Bud

What is everyone doing? Hardly anybody is posting, there's no banter, no discussion, no fun chatting! Is the whole group just busy with fall activities, if so I understand, but I miss y'all! I know you're not packing for the U.K. quite yet! Oh well, just asking since there has been so little activity and everywhere I look I see my name as the last poster...thaat's boring. Looking forward to "bantering days" again!! Hi! I'm here! I wish I could come here more often but I've always got computer issues (I'm still on dial up!, and my computer itself is down to 2% free space!!) and I also deal with being pulled in a hundred different directions all at once, and I admit it, also depression. Some days I can't seem to do anything I enjoy (like coming here). But I'm moving soon, to a new house, and no matter how much scrimping and saving it's going to take, I'm getting a new computer and a REAL internet connection! No more dial up! Another reason I don't post often is I feel I don't have anything real to contribute, as I've never seen Cat/Yusuf in concert, and never met him or any of his band members, as I've noticed many of you have. I can't TELL you how much I envy you but also how nice it is to be able to read the first-hand accounts of these adventures! I always wonder what I was doing when concerts (back in the day) were held near my home. Was I looking left that day instead of right and I didn't see the poster? Or was I in the shower when the DJ on the radio announced it? I used to go to concerts a lot as a teenager, but I never even heard a whisper of Cat's. Oh I know where I was, I was in that movie theater in Georgetown watching Harold and Maude again and again with my friend Cindy! Doh! Hi SS, "... So nice to see a friendly face come peeping through..." Please do try to stop by more often. I've always read your posts with great interest because they are just that: interesting! They truly are. You have tons to contribute... you always have and always will. -Bud

What a terrific thread you have created, Incognita!
Your thoughts about the impact that first, Cat, and, later, Yusuf, has had on your life are so deep and sincerely heartfelt.
It has been an insightful pleasure to read the give and take between you and Richina on this topic and down through the thread... wonderful reading and so thought-provoking.
As is true with the other Majicat 'newcomers' and 'relative newcomers', your presence here is a grand addition to the site!

Richina, I was sort of wondering the same thing myself, I know my week was busy so I figured the same for everyone else. But now that it is the weekend I have a few respite moments to myself (less the teens) and I'm saying "I'm here!" as well. Hey Bud, It really is great to see you back in the fold. Before I had actually signed in as a member your conversations with Richina were one of my favorite things to peek in on.
