Hi t4tillerman, Antarctica was just that! Awesome! I love wildlife and travel. A friend was 60 this year and, after getting dispenstion from our wives we got to Ushuaia, boarded the good ship Ioffe and headed to The Falklands, South Georgia and the Antarctic Peninsula. We travelled with One Ocean so you could look up where we went online should you feel so inclined. We had the best weather ever, made all Zodiac landings and sitting with 600,000 penguins is pretty memorable! The doctor on board was quite withdrawn. You'd never get much of a conversation. He answered questions but never asked them! On our penultimate night all crew and passengers crowded into the bar for an impromptu sing along. Guess who ended up with the guitar! So I sang The Wind and I heard the doctor singing along with me! So I tried Where Do The Children Play. He was there again! Moonshadow got the whole bar and lounge singing! The doctor was a different guy the next day! So Cat melted the ice in Antarctica! Keep well! Chris Welcome back, Chris! It sounds like you spent an incredibly memorable time cruising to The Falkland Islands, South Georgia and the Antarctic Peninsula. Absolutely loved your story of how you thawed-out the good doctor on board with your guitar playing and performances of several Cat Stevens songs. Terrific! Happy that you enjoyed such a memorable sojourn and grateful, to, that you're back on the 'bridge' of the good ship "Majicat"! Best regards, Chris. -Bud

Hi Brad, Welcome back indeed! Great to see you here again. Hopefully, next year there will be a lot more things Yusuf/Cat Stevens to talk about! Great to see you checking in too Bud! Best to all, Chris Thank you, my dear friend Chris... much obliged! There is talk that a new CD by Yusuf will be released early in 2016. Apparently he has been hard at work on it for the past several months in recording studios in Sweden, Germany and Belgium. Our great friend and fellow-Majicatter Gabi recently provided this information via the internet. This new recording is certainly something exciting to look forward to! -Bud

If any of you are from days gone by, Katmandu (me) has returned to the site after a long absence. My name is Brad and I hope everyone is well and I'm still a huge Cat/Yusuf fan. Welcome back, Brad! I surely do remember you both from Majicat and the old catstevens.com, not to mention (but I shall) the former UK site from the early 00's. It's a joy to have you back, old friend! -Bud

Say, where have all my M'cat buddies gone? I, myself, due to on-going and pressing family concerns and emergencies, have been unable to dedicate the amount of attention I sorely wish that I could to the great and iconic Majicat. This surely has nothing whatsoever to do with the pure quality of the site, as our dedicated moderator Chris (also and affectionately known as "Novim") has continued his excellent and heartfelt efforts on our collective behalf. I hereby express the thought, and my fervant hope, that I shall be able to visit our treasured Majicat much more often in the near and distant future. And when I do, my further wish is to be surrounded by many, many (so very many) of fellow 'catters! In the meantime, I salute Chris for his selfless and wonderful work, here. I hope that you are all happy and well! -Bud

Thanks Bud! It is a very prolonged birthday feast, got Yusuf tickets from my family-4th November Can't wait. Hope you will go to one of the US concerts. You are very welcome, Peritura. Wow! This sounds like it may well have been your greatest birthday ever! So happy for you that you received those tickets and I look forward to reading your impressions of the show. Unfortunately, as a result of the cancellation of Yusuf's New York City date(s), I will be unable to attend a concert (but hope yet springs eternal as I look toward the future!). -Bud

Does anybody know this is a state song of LOUISIANA? ? As kids, we used to sing this (all 3 stanzas) from the front of the houseboat, at dusk, coming home after a long day on the river! My earliest memories of singing "sunshine" include wearing one of those bulky orange life jackets (wet, dirty, and chafing), as we straddled the railing across the front of the boat with our feet dangling in the water. We had to sit like that so the wake of the boat, as it moved through the water, wouldn't grab us and accidently pull us off, then under, the boat! (ah, parenting in the 60's! )Y'all don't even wanna know how many freshly grilled "river burgers" 9 kids (and often more) could eat after a full day of skiing, tubing, and swimming??! Answer....as many as my Aunt Ruth and Uncle Mal could fix!! (may they rest in peace ) What great memories....Hey, I wonder if Yusuf knows the song "There Once Was A Farmer..."or "The Cutest Boy..."?? I could sure teach 'em to him... now where DID we leave that houseboat?? I challenge anyone to read Richina's posts (and this one is a prime example) and not chuckle and smile. I recall, Richina, that your dad was a noted writer and reporter for many years, and I must say that "your daddy's best 'genes'" are clearly present in his talented daughter. -Bud

I like how the album art references Mona Bone Jakon, Tea for the Tillerman and Teaser and the Firecat. And "I Love My Dog"? Any other references I'm missing? Joyatri, I'm still searching for a black spider dancing... or... playing a flute! That _is_ a most cool and clever cover. -Bud

I agree Bud I did too!and then getting "Dying to Live" as a premiere single .. it was sooo beautiful to gift us with that .. such love !! that would be a good question to ask Richina about the vinyl .. I would think it will come out as vinyl too! xo Thank you, Christina, and I heartily agree with what you expressed about Yusuf's thoughtful free sampling of "Dying To Live", as well. Hmmm... maybe we can start a sort of "'Tell 'Em I'm Gone': We Want The Vinyl!" boomlet/semi-official campaign, here... -Bud

I feel as though I have been nostalgically transported back to the 1970's as I feel the same giddy thrill that I experienced then, when I was in my teens and we were all preoccupied and filled to brimming with eager and unbridled anticipation for each new Cat Stevens album as they were released. I felt that very same sense of excitement as I pre-ordered "Tell 'Em I'm Gone" via amazon, yesterday! Thank you, Yusuf, for this latest gift of music... each and every one have always proven to be well worth the wait. -Bud You going to see him in NYC Buddly Boodly Boo? ....you owe it to yourself since he'll be in your neck of the woods! Oh, and I forgot....WHAT, NO FLIPPIN' VINYL?? All this talk of artwork and special stuff...sheesh, that's what albums are for!! My little "old school heart" is broke. You know, he made an album for Roadsinger, and it's GORGEOUS!! Well worth the money!!
It don't matter...I lub him anyway. Hi Richina, Thank you for the smiles that are always a lead-pipe cinch to accompany your messages as I read them. I do harbor the hope of finally taking advantage of the opportunity to see the great Yusuf on stage (as you may recall, I, to my huge regret, have never done so). If I am able to do so on this occasion, it will represent the grandest 'bucket list' fulfillment I could ever imagine and hope to accomplish. It is my vervant wish that you, and all of our fellow 'catters, are going to be able to catch a show! -Bud (P.S. -- I was just thinking about an LP/vinyl version of "Tell 'Em I'm Gone", this morning, so I, too, am sorry to learn that none will be forthcoming. So states your fellow "Old Schooler")

I haven't been on this forum for a while, but I saw something I had to share. I was sitting in the dr's office waiting room, picked up an old issue of The New Yorker magazine (April 21, 2014), opened it up and my eyes immediately fell on an article about Cat Stevens/Yusuf. It has an interview with him just prior to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction. (Of course, I had to savor the article in a more congenial setting -- so ended up sticking the magazine in my bag.) Considering the 'circumstances' (ie: an article about Yusuf) no one could possibly find fault with your 'borrowing' of that Dr's office magazine, Joy! (And. besides, who among us has not, at one time, or another, done the very same thing?) Great post, btw! -Bud

Hi everyone . My name is Rashid . I am new here ! I picked up the guitar and learnt how to play it by myself in 2008 due to the influence of the beatles . Ever since then , i have been hooked onto playing the guitar . I also learnt how to play the piano ( very basic ) . Recently i found out about Badfinger , Big Star , Chris Bell , Elliott Smith , Nick Drake and Cat Stevens . Cat has a really unique style of finger picking that i love ! I love 70s music . Once in a while , i listen to early 60s folk music like Brothers Four , Peter Paul and Mary etc . I have a youtube channel : Rashidcovers , that i have made and dedicated to . You will find many covers of the artistes i listed above . I am currently working on two albums , which i am going to release for free I am not a professional . Playing music is my hobby . One of the albums is called " Away " . I have some demos on my channel . I am also making a website , which is under construction . www.rashidcovers.weebly.com Some questions . Any of you guys heard of Nick Drake ? If so , do you have any information if he and Cat ever met ? I just found some photoshoots of them at the same place ! ( separate days ) . I made this picture View AttachmentAlso , i am planning to buy a new acoustic guitar . I am going towards looks ( like a hummingbird ) and sound , and something not that expensive . Any recommendations ? Thanks "Welcome", Rashid! It's great to have you with us on Majicat. I wish you great success with all of the exciting musical projects that you are currently pursuing -- may they all arrive at complete fruition. -Bud

Enjoyed viewing this Yusuf gallery, t4. Thank you for locating it and sharing. And I very much agree: viewing photo #65 did, indeed, conjure up the idea of it being a college yearbook photo (even accounting for the fact that Yusuf is pictured fully-bearded). He still, somehow, comes across as more 'student' than 'professor'. There definitely is a youthfulness, there. -Bud

Well, thank you, Bud and all. I appreciate the sweet birthday wishes. Actually, it's on July 9, but I think that delaying it one day each year is a GREAT IDEA! That way in 365 years, I will have added a whole year to my life. Right? Did I reason that out correctly? PLUS, by that time, 365 years from now, Yusuf may have finally done a US tour. I'm sure that he would still sound and look fabulous - I, on the other hand, may look a little worse for wear. Oops! So sorry, Hy! (But I love your figuring 'n' factoring) -Bud

Hello everyone, New member here. Have enjoyed the music of Cat Stevens since the 70's, and the picture above reminds me that I wanted to say how much I now enjoy the songs by Yusuf on "Roadsinger ". It was so nice to see him on television getting recognition for his God-given talent at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction. Very sweet performance; I must have watched it 20 times at least. I have been going back & buying some of the old Cat Stevens albums lately (found "Izitso" and "Catch Bull at Four" vinyl LPs at a Goodwill store for $1 each, in perfect condition... so happy to find those). I am now enjoying both the old songs and the new ones. Anyway, it has been nice reading here at the forum, and I thought I would stop in and say "hello" to you all. Wishing you well. ~t It's wonderful to have you with us, t4! Loved reading your personal history of admiration for Cat (Yusuf), and delighted that you were able to locate and purchase those two prized vintage vinyls! A "Warm Welcome" to our newest Majicatter. Please visit often, 't! :-) -Bud

My thoughts are YOUR thoughts I am wondering, Chris and Monika: Does this indicate that _all_ of the tunes on Yusuf's upcoming recording will be covers?, or are some new, original songs going to be included, as well. Thank you! -Bud As to my own thoughts, I would always prefer that Yusuf include original, new material along with his cover versions. At the same time, Yusuf has never failed to create some interesting and worthwhile covers, indeed. -Bud
