If you have had time to view the Majikat DVD, what would you consider your favorite song sung doing this concert?

That would be a tough choice. Sometimes I feel I must choose MOONSHADOW, simply because it is the song that first introduced me to Cat Stevens. But I also love Cat's comedy routine, and almost died laughing, when he introduced Mr. Banapple! Then, I burst into tears, when Cat came back for the encore, singing Wild World! It is really hard for me to choose.

Right now I will say "Tuesday's Dead". I just love the intensity of this live version. I remember how much fun it was when I was there all those years ago. Well not there as in that particular concert ...lol...but at the one I attended. Runner up would have to be "Hard Headed Woman", again the feeling in this version are great. I have only seen the DVD twice so I may check back in and change my mind later.

Strangely I have gotten the most out of songs that I previously didn't care for a whole lot. Sad Lisa I never liked but here it really sounded great, real emotional intensity and that great Alun Davies guitar in the middle.
For me, the only song that didn't work was C79. Perhaps, it is more of a studio song.

The first few lines, are left out. Anyone else notice that! Other than that, everything about the DVD was perfect! Oh yes, I noticed the messed up chord in Lady D'arvanville, but since Cat laughed at it, so did I! Peace,Vivian Peace,Vivian

Hmmm, I have to agree with Miss Kitty , I love the energy Cat exhibits in 'Tuesday Is Dead". I have always loved it. But to hear it live and to see it sung with such energy is wonderful. What a wonderful rendition!
The other song I really loved watching Cat sing was "King of Trees". It's such a beautiful song, and he sings it with such powerful emotion.

Peace,Vivian Peace,Vivian Hi all; No! I didn't notice that (C-79)! I'm sure it's because I haven't listened to that song in years. Since it's not one of my favorites, I don't think I listened to it much even in the 70's. But I like the way he played it here. Live perfomances tend to make each song more appealing anyway. My favorites are Two Fine People (love the drums!) Tuesday's Dead (love the intensity, and his facial expressions) and Peace Train. When I saw the show in L. A. he didn't introduce Banapple Gas that way. He had already introduced the band, but then he did it again, and then claimed the Banapple Gas had made him "Uh.....duh.....Stupid." Ya had to be there, perhaps, but it was funny. Now that I've seen the whole thing several times, I have 2 complaints: 1) I think the way each interview segment is ended too abruptly, like they cut the tape before he was finished. 2) I wish the concert footage was longer! They edited out Sitting, Whistlestar, and Blue Monday. I'm sure he played those that night. They're too good to leave out! The Forum was rockin' to those tunes when I saw him. Love it, love it, love it! ;D

Where do the children play. I loved it when the backdrop fell and the rest of the band was there!

They are all great!
However, it would have been "How Can I Tell You" had it not been wiped. It is criminal that this was edited out :-(

It is criminal that this was edited out :-( I guess the set list changed some to each individual performance!! I would have LOVED to have HOW CAN I TELL YOU, but I realize there was no way Cat could have played EVERYTHING!! Hey, we'd have EVERYTHING, if they would just release that concert box set!! Well, ALMOST everything! Peace,Vivian

I love it all and have watched it every day since I got it - loved to see Yusuf singing two of my favourite tracks "Majik of Majiks and "Two Fine People" - what an incredible DVD - The interview at the end is so special, and shows the humour and gentleness of the wonderful man.

Peace,Vivian Hi Vivian, I think Boot is referring to to the original set list that is posted here at Majicat. It was contibuted by Alex Niforis who was at the concert and taped it on an old cassette tape. He's also the person who took all the photographs that appear over on CS.com, that were sporatically placed on this new DVD. It is a shame they edited 'How can I tell you', 'Sitting' and 'Whistlestar' off, but it's still a wonderful concert DVD. ;D ;D This is the original set list which can be located at the bottom of the Recordings page, along with other bootlegs recordings setlists. MARY & WILLIAMS COLLEGE Majikat Earth Tour Williamsburg, Virginia February 22, 1976 Tape recorded by Alex Niforos The Wind Moonshadow Where Do The Children Play? Another Saturday Night Hard Headed Woman Sitting (his apology for waving off the cameraman) Whistlestar (magic tricks were performed during this song with fake smoke and stuff) King of Trees (another apology for waving off the cameraman) C/79 Lady D Arbanville (introduces Mr. Banapple) Banapple Gas Intermission which included more magic tricks Majik of Majiks Tuesday s Dead O Very Young (he read a couple of notes that some girls took up to the stage along with some roses) How Can I Tell You The Hurt Miles From Nowhere (he talked about Lisa being a real friend of his) Sad Lisa (became upset at the taping up of mic cord) Two Fine People Fill My Eyes Father and Son Ruins Peace Train Encore: Wild World Jzero

How Can I Tell You is a gem on the Boston '76 bootleg, by far the best track from the 24. From what I heard on the Willaimsburg bootleg this rendition was equally impressive. Shame :-(
Anyone notice something strange on this '76 version of Wild World encore?? He missed out something that he inserted specifically to his Majikat renditions of Wild World!

Yeah the part where he was telling us about his transition to islam was truly moving. I thought he was going to break down at any minute and his sheer defiance at the people who seemed to think he had no right to do it! Amazing man! (Sorry Meg I dont know how to use the quote thingy properly!)

I'll watch it again, but what do you mean, "he missed something he inserted specifically into his majikat renditions?" How can he leave out something he put in? I was at the L.A performance, and he played Wild World, but I don't remember anything different about it.

The only other live (i.e., concert) audio of Wild World I've got is from the Saturnight LP, so I guess I don't have a point of reference to be able to work out an answer to Boot's mysterious query. -Joanne

Hi Vivian....about C79, aren't the first few lines actually "The Sun," then C79, which he played on the DVD, follows directly afterward. So really, he just left out "The Sun." I can't say I missed it. Sorry, but I never cared for that song, or C79 either for that matter. In fact, now that he's trying to be a paradigm of morality, he doesn't release anything with The Boy With The Moon and Star on His Head any more. I think it was left off the box set for a reason. But I always liked that song. I kind of thought of it as a cautionary tale when I was a teen, and never aspired to be like the farmer's daughter, or the deceived wife. However, all that backstage groupie stuff in C79 annoyed me, so I never liked the song.

"he missed something he inserted specifically into his majikat renditions?" Yes, he did a slight lyric change of the track especially for the Majikat '76 tour. However, not during this rendition.

I will let Joanne inform you all. I have been providing her with huge clues all day!! ;D Hopefully now she knows!! LOL Boot! (ahem) According to my infallible source ( ), during the Majikat tour, Mr. Stevens would regularly add the name of the evening's location to the line "there's a lot of bad and beware....beware", as in "there's a lot of bad and beware...Boston beware". This is what's omitted on the new DVD. Maybe Williamsburg simply had too many syllables for a nice fit, Boot? -Joanne

awwww.... I was trying to figure out Boots riddle as well.
You know I did notice he didn't specifially say hello Williamsburg during the concert. When I saw him in Cleveland 2 days before the Williamsburg concert. I specially remember Cat saying... Hello Cleveland! then he went on to say something about how the stars were positioned. I can't remember exactly how it was worded, but something to the effect of the Cleveland audience was warmer than he expected, since the stars were postioned in a certain way. I guess he thought we would give him a cold reception.

Or perhaps it was to the effect, that he thought he was cooler to us than he thought he should be, considering wherethe stars were positioned that night? It's to long ago for me to remember exactly.
Jancat, do you remember how he said it?

These Majicat renditions sound interesting. I guess they shouldn't have edited them out! Now, lets hope that when and if they officially release the BBC, that they leave in all the Bitterblue mistakes! Those are too special to cut out!

Forget the BBC concert!... most of us have seen it on Trio and other formats.. I would love to see the whole Granada Concert. Tuesdays Dead was just a teaser. I loved it.
I love the small intimacy of the early concerts from 1970-1971-1972.

Jancat, do you remember how he said it? Oh, how I wish I did, Christine... Unfortunately, I never got to see him "in the day"; a fact that now causes me great regret. Back then, going to Cleveland was akin to going to the other side of the world! I wish his stars would position him back in Cleveland for a day or two!
