It was a good night! I was amazed at how long the band played for. Al joked that the Bobby's would not be happy if they went over time! Al took us through the story of Cat, his musical and spiritual journey. As Chris rightly says, Al was so modest with the way he introduced the songs. The three guys make a very full sound. All totally live without backing tracks. For me it was the 60s songs that I enjoyed the most. They just don't get played as much as the later material and so good to hear them stripped down. Everyone was smiling when the band played the medley which I think included Good Old Times, Laughing Apple, Tramp, Blackness Of The Night, View From Top and I'm So Sleepy. Michael was in his element when he sang on Longer Boats.
Thanks to Al, Herbert and Martin for a great evening. Michael did great getting it all together. Yusuf would have been proud I'm sure. It sure felt like he was there, everyone was looking around to see if they could spot someone wearing a hat, longish beard and sunglasses!

Thanks very much, Chris and Daddy-o, for telling us about the tribute concert. It sounds like it was an absolutely wonderful evening. I wish I could have been there. It sounds like lots of love and hard work went into this. I almost expected to read that Yusuf had appeared at the very end and sang "Indian Ocean", especially when I read that Michael had met with Yusuf's assistant for 5 hours altogether. I wish Yusuf could have been there, if only as part of the audience, because I'm sure he would have been greatly pleased and honored.
Thanks again for the informative posts.
Take care, Waterside

Thank You Chris, George. I really enjoyed reading your reviews about the tribute concert. It sounded like loads of fun. What a nice way for all of you to meet and enjoy beautiful Cat Stevens music. I heard Al and his band was fabulous in there renditions of Cat songs. Anyway, just wanted to thank you for your reviews! Way to go Michael, Al, Herbert and Martin! Christine

Glade to see we are back live Those of you there do you think Cat would of approved of what we did ? michael Since this all goes to such a wonderful cause, I would say, YES, most definitely. ANd if you can have this again NEXT YEAR, there is a very good chance I would be able to be there. I have tenitive plans to be in London around March or April of 2006. If I can make it to London, count me in! Hairy will be there as well! Peace,Vivian

I travelled for over 4 hours to Bedford for the Tribute night and sorry to say but I wouldnt do it again. Ive been a Cat fan for over 30 years and would be willing to travel anywhere but not to see a tribute band again, Royal Albert Hall was the most special nite - i was fortunate enough to meet true fellow cat fans. I overheard a conversation about doing tribute night again but at a much inflated cost of ticket - think I'll live in hope for another Albert Hall nite.

Hi
IF we do put on a CAT tribute night again in 2006 we would use the event to raise money again for SMALL KINDNESS..I would not inflate the ticket price to more than £12 each
I think most would agree that would be a very fair price for such a night
many thanks for your coments

I can asure everone I would never charge that amount for a tribute night...I know some clubs do charge £20-£25 for such nights like Queen tribute gigs ect If we do this in 2006 the price will be £12 a ticket .... does that sound fair ? thanks michael ps..what you may of herd is us saying is in our eyess it was worth £25 a ticket BUT I would never charge that unless the great man agreed to turn up ...i am sure we would all pay £25 for that ...many would pay a lot more to be one of only 100 in a room with Yusuf ...but thats just a dream

I think £12 is a fair price but I wouldn't pay alot for a tribute band. I did enjoy the evening but fortunately for me I didn't have to travel as far as Bamboozle, I have to agree I wouldn't travel too far to see Al & the Firecats unless Yusuf was there, then it'd be a whole different story of course.
I thought it was a bit off Michael that you started the bidding for the ticket at £10 on the site, yet it started at £40 on the night. I'm glad you got a good price for it, after all its Small Kindness that will benefit, but I think you'd have been better doing this at the gig also, £40 is just too high a price to start at.

Thanks for you thoughts I had no idea what price to start the bidding for on the night for the ticket ...I thought £40 starting price was fair place to start after all there was 4 Autograths on it and you often find on e bay iteams with only 1 on it going for more than £40 ....also the buyer could be 100% sure all 4 are real..so £40 starting price looked fair to me ..as for the ticket on this site i wanted to make the bidding a bit more fun as only one item so I thought £10 starting would help that ...we all learn from what we try.. I had a lot of bids around £50-£60 from this site and the winning bid of $120 is around £65 i think so the price paid is a fair one ...if this had gone on ebay I am sure it would of gone for a lot more ...BUT i wanted the fans that take the time to view this great site to be the winners..not everone and anyone who looks at ebay ...however if it was just the money ebay would of been a better bet i guess ....I just wanted to to fair to this site and its fans ..you guys & girls... 2006 I have over 50 people who would like to come back already because there liked the night so much ..but of course for some people the once was just right for them and i thank them for there support and Small Kindness are realy pleased that there are getting just over £1000 ..most of that money has come from the profits from the night as well as some extra from me ....I will give you the total as soon as I have the money in from the ticket sale...but I have already told Small kindness that there are getting £1000 min and there are realy delighted with that ...so once again a big thankyou to you all ...we can all be proud of what we did or were part of. michael ;D
