Hmmm, while I really don't want to bid against fellow majicatters from this site, I too want this Saturnight concert. Is there some way we can all help each other out? I'm totally willing to share the 9Lives demo CD in exchange for a live concert. Just have to figure out how to burn a CD on my computer, ha ha. I'm on the hunt for concert recordings... hint hint hint That's what I hope for as well. I need both the full length Saturn Night as well as the 9 lives one I do have some other AUDIO recordings I would be willing to trade for. I mean the price these are selling for on E Bay, I would likely have to rob a bank to be able to afford them, LOL Peace,Vivian Peace,Vivian

yes, it's quite a bucketload of cash. I've spent hours online searching everywhere for concerts on CD and have come across quite a few but the quality is always suspect. Different countries put different names on them so you have to be really careful and ask a lot of questions so you don't end up buying something you already have. It's time consuming and have to keep track of all coorespondence and keep track of those shops that never answer you back. This majicat website is a good resource explaining what's out there but there's no information how to get a hold of the people who actually have these recordings or wrote about them. It's really frustrating when you read all this great stuff but nobody to contact for more information! Forces us to search online and ebay and pay ridiculous prices. Oh well, that's the name of the game I guess.... those that 'have' and those that 'have not'.

Hi all. Sorry I couldn't dip into this thread earlier but I've been away. I did a search and came up with a review of 9 lives. There were 3 user comments - one had a strange username. I Googled that and ended up contacting the guy. He put me in touch with someone who could provide me with a copy. To cut a long story short I paid $25 plus $6 for postage for my copy which is on the way, I'm told! If you're interested in getting a copy of your own, then please contact me privately. I hope this helps. I hate to see people getting ripped off on EBay! Cheers! Novim PS I'd be really interested in getting hold of the additional Saturnight songs! What are they? Anyone know?

Hi all,
My 9 Lives cd just arrived today. 3 new songs. I can't wait to hear them but I haven't had a chance to listen yet and also I want to savour the moment of having new Cat songs to hear for just a while longer. I'll let you all know what I think of the cd when I hear it. The supplier I mentioned got it to me very quickly really - it was posted on Monday and arrived today, Saturday - not bad from Japan!

Ok, so I've listened to the cd and I think it's great for a Cat Stevens fan who wants to collect all his recordings. It's good to hear Cat in the raw, just him and his guitar like a busker. It's interesting hearing songs in their formative stage like Moonshadow where he sings - if I ever lose my mind, I won't have to think. There are some songs like Can This Be Love, which is great, and which feature bass and drums and seem more polishe. I love the 2 Harold and Maude songs with Sing Out being performed on the piano. The Fisherman is a great little song, but It's So Good is lyrically challenged to say the least. As with all Cat songs, it's a great tune but I think he was going to add different lyrics at some stage, though I may be wrong. I agree with a previous post, these songs will not all appear on future Cat Stevens releases and this is your only chance to get to hear these songs. If you want to hear them, please contact me privately through this forum and I'll see what I can do. Best to all! - Novim

I wonder how Cat/Yusuf feels about all this.
I know some artists, like the Grateful Dead, encourage bootlegs. Others feel like it's stealing.
What do you think? Does it hurt the artist? Is it right to shell out lots of money for something maybe they don't want released?

Well, thanks to the kindness of one of our most generous majicater, I was able to listen to this collection of demos and quite frankly, I'm speechless. Well, almost.
A few thoughts: "that voice"! what a voice, rich and deep, more on these demos it seems than on official releases.
The raw emotions! Particularly on "How Can I Tell You", never heard such an emotional rendition. It's also played alot like it was on shows in 71 - the Catnip version (Chicago?) comes to mind.
"The Fisherman" ! Great little (unfinished ?) gem with the rythm and colors of Greece. Makes you wonder what could have been if Steve had experimented more with the folklore of his rich background.
Highly recommended!!
Peace from Glaucus

Is it right to shell out lots of money for something maybe they don't want released? Sue, I think you raise a very good question, but a difficult one to answer, I think. My first thought is that this would have been a good discussion for my younger days - one of those nights with the bong being passed around the room! ;D ;D ;D My other thought is that bootlegs hurt the artist if the bootlegs compete with what the artist himself releases. I think with these rare or difficult to find recordings, they don’t take the place of anything; people who are likely to buy them will purchase them in addition to everything else they will buy. I certainly wouldn’t buy a bootleg of anything available through normal channels. If I need to replace Teaser and the Firecat, I would go to Amazon and buy it. I don’t know the answer, but these are at least some of my thoughts on it. I would be curious to hear what others think as well. Jane

Hi all,
Just a quick thought. I am pleased to have this cd but I think it steals some of Yusuf's thunder with regard to trickling some of these demos on to new recordings and I bet he's a bit peeved by that. I believe that this cd should be freely available to fans as it IS out there and there is, unfortunately, nothing that Yusuf or anyone else can do about that now. I want to stop people profiteering from it as I'm sure Yusuf would be horrified to find fans paying up to $108 on E Bay! It was suggested to me that should anyone manage to get a copy of this cd in whatever way that they make a donation to Small Kindness. Yusuf would be pleased to know that people getting hold of this are doing some good for the charity he runs. Seems only fair to me. So, if you haven't paid enormous funds for the cd or if you have got it for free, could I kindly suggest that you send a donation? Just a thought - I hope that you agree with it!
Best wishes to all, Novim

I shall do the same! Peace,Vivian

I'll take any opportunity to look at that every now and then! That is good enough for me, but I guess that is the young girl in me talking!

I just finished listening to 9 Lives for the first time, and I'm in heaven! What a wonderful experience. I have to agree with just about everything Novim & Glaucus had to say. His pure, beautiful voice and guitar were marvelous. Far more highlights than lowlights, imho. I do wish he'd left the line in Moonshadow: "and if I lose my mind, I won't have to think." Ah well, can't have everything... Thanks again, Chris!! joni... p.s. just receiving the gift of this "new" music is inspiration enough. a donation is on its way to Small Kindness. Thanks, Yusuf.

I don't know that I can add anything new here, but I just have to chime in. I got the CD about 2 weeks ago and have listened to it several times already. If I only had one word to use it would be "WOW", because that was my first reaction. I try not to sing along with his music because I don't want to distract my ears from the sound of his voice, so this CD - where there is not even much musical accompaniment - is such a treat. So delightfully pure!
So, even though I paid what some consider to be too much for this, Yusuf gets none of it, so off to Small Kindness I go. It's his music, after all.

Thanks to our very good majicatter friend I've just listened to 9 Lives and I'm writing this with a big smile on my face. It felt like Cat was singing to me in my living room ;D Absolutely wonderful, and of course my donation to Small Kindness is on it's way!

A big thank you to Novim who has made listening to this possible.
It is taking my breath away.

I am completely delighted by these recordings. There is a simplicity and immediacy to the performances that is really heart-stopping at times. It will be interesting to see which of these demos (if any) make it on to the re-releases Yusuf is working on.
Deep thanks to Novim for sharing, deeper thanks to Yusuf for creating.
Off to the Small Kindness site...

How blessed we are when we have majicatter friends! I can't thank Novim enough - hopefully the sun, moon and stars are all shining brightly for you and yours! Yusuf's songs on the 9 lives CD are really precious. Can you imagine the privilege it would have been to sit in on every take he ever made? I think Alun Davies has been one of the privileged few who fall into that category. But who else but Alun could have filled that seat next to Cat/Steve in those days. Alun's wonderful guitar work and fine-tuned and timed backing vocals will go down in my history books as the only figure capable of complimenting Cat as well as he did.
That said however, Cat on his own (mostly it would seem on this CD) is testament to the artist with his so very rare and so precious gift. And thanks to whatever events that were 'set' in order, Cat's gift was given and shared with us for a while. Hearing this treasure box of songs after so long wanting for more of the same, we get that place in our hearts so sweetly touched again. Akin to the word 'love', Cat's songs are difficult to fully explain, maybe because they are an experience. I loved much of this CD. If one song did it for me, it would have to be 'Can this be love?' It struck something in me that made my heart cry... and I can't explain more than that. Two songs didn't cut it for me but having read other comments here (and seeming one is on Yusuf's bubble page), it's very much an individual experience. I'm way way way more grateful than disappointed - no, that's not really true, I'm NOT disappointed - only very grateful... thank-you so much... now, if only life could be this good!

Thanks Novim for making this available.
It's as if Cat is sitting with his guitar in a corner of your lounge room.

I finally have this CD thanks to a dear Mes Amis! It is so hauntingly beautiful, I don't know where to begin. There are special added touches to some of the classics we know and love, like the extra verse to Moonshadow-If I ever lose my mind. I love the added touch to Morning has Broken as well. And then those rare never heard gems as well. LOVE IT!
Peace,Vivian

I have just returned from my holiday, so I have only just been able to see this. I agree, Yusuf, must be more than a little peeved that his soon to be released CD has already flooded the market on Ebay and the like, So a donation is a great idea. I can't thank you enough, Chris, for your continual generosity. Of course, I shall be making my donation to small kindness, it will be a pleasure. By the way, I sent a message to the ebayer selling this, I mentioned that the track "Who'll Be My Love" was "Ruby Love" and he said, it was originally called "Who'll be my Love" and that he knows this, as he is "CLOSE TO THE SOURCE"!!! So, Yusuf, watch your back!!!
