Hey everybody, I just got notified about the Chris Charlesworth CS Biography being available on Ebay. Starting bid is $4.00. These are the same people I bought mine from and the condition of the book is great (like new)! I guess this company must have bought out someone who had a couple of these books. If you want one, here's your chance. Good luck!

I join Richina in wishing anyone who makes the attempt to acquire it the best of luck... Happy bidding, Majicatters! -Bud

Yes - thanks for posting this. I actually looked on ebay the other day and didn't see anything. I will have to place a bid. I've never purchased anything from ebay before, not sure what I am doing - lol
I really want this book but I do not want to pay a few hundred for it. What you paid for it though Richina I would lay down in a heartbeat!

May I suggest that any bidders wait till the very last few seconds before bidding. I realise this isn't always possible, but sometimes it's a good idea in order to keep the bids from being drawn high. Of course, there are often bidding wars during those last seconds, where many bidders fight to get their bids in. But I've won a few bids that way. And yeah, I must admit, I've also been outbid in the very last possible second......YIKES. But it might be worth a try.
Peace,Vivian

In my opinion (sorry Viv ), what you do is enter the maximum you wish to pay for the book, then let Ebay do the bidding for you. I was actually willing to go much higher than what I got the book for. The person I was bidding against had entered a bid of $15.99, a couple of days earlier, and I just knew they were going to swoop in at the last few seconds, shoot up their offer, and knock me out of the running (you know, lull me into a false sense of security). I had actually ended up entering a max bid of...gulp, $150 (my husband would die)! I'm glad I didn't have to pay that, of course, but that was what I was willing to do, crazy as it sounds. If you're not familiar with bidding on Ebay (1 click bids, etc.), I wouldn't suggest waiting till the last seconds....it'll make you CRAZY!! I was a wreck thinking I was gonna have to spring into action as the clock ticked down to 2 minutes. So I asked myself, "What is the most you'd pay for this paperback, out-of-print book?" My answer was first $50, then $100 (as I upped my max bid), then $150 at the 1 minute mark. I then decided to let the chips fall where they may.....TA DA, ;D the other bidder either wasn't watching or didn't care, they had maxxed out at $15.99. So I got the book for $16.49 + $3 S/H!! I sat there shell shocked and amazed that I had gotten a few hundred dollar book so cheap! (there is another one for sale on Ebay for $200 +and on Amazon they go from $347 to $2000 + for one "like new") Anyway, this company may have more of these issues and put them up for sale later, but I don't know that for sure. My book looks brand new and I thought it may be a reprint, but I looked it over, checked the copyright, and it appears to be the real deal! Just my itty bitty 2 little cents! Good luck everybody...I'll be watching.

When I looked last night I only found one book on ebay and it had a Buy it Now price of $233ish U.S. Or a best offer spot - is the best offer spot where you place your bid? I wasn't able to view any bids.

I wasn't able to view any bids. Here's the link for the one you can place a bid on: cgi.ebay.com/Cat-Stevens-Softcover-Book-1984-/390226990467?They would have gotten way more attention if they had use the word "biography" in the title, instead of "softcover book".

cgi.ebay.com/Cat-Stevens-Softcover-Book-From-1984_W0QQitemZ390226990467QQcategoryZ105033QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp3286.m7QQ_trkparmsZalgo%3DLVI%26itu%3DUCI%26otn%3D2%26po%3DLVI%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D6338787464537171765Here is the link. I don't know why it is not showing up on regular Ebay. Underneath the starting bid you will see a box that says "Max Bid". Enter the amount you want (you can change it at any time and it will show up as an another bid) If you want to see the other bids (it will never show anyone's max bid), just click on the number where it says "bids" and it will take you to another screen showing the series of bids. The way it works is this: Say you enter a max bid of $10, and the current bid is $3 (by someone else), Ebay will bid for you just enough to keep you ahead of the other bidders (+.50 or + $1),and let you know you are the high bidder until your max is reached. You will then be advised that you have been outbid and you can increase your bid or let it stand. Good luck and let me know if I can help. If you win you will have to set up a Paypal account using a credit card. I've found it to be a very safe way of paying and you have fraud protection both through Ebay and through your credit card.

Thankyou Glaucus, Thankyou Rechina, for keeping us posted, and for the valuable advice. Last night when I went serching on ebay, the prices were way over my head. I guess I was looking in the wrong place. The link above has the book at a more reasonable price that I can afford right now. I will put in my bid tonight. THANKYOU!!!

Bummer - I don't see a street address - just the town they are located in. I ws going to show up if I didn't win.
Does anyone know why a bidder would enter a bid. Be the highest bidder. And then offer a higher bid than his previous bid? I don't get it.

And then offer a higher bid than his previous bid? I don't get it. I actually do that all the time. I start out thinking I only want to pay so much for something, and then I realize I am willing to pay more. I increase my max bid to increase my chances of winning the item. The price will only go up to my max bid if someone else keeps bidding against me up to that amount. Basically, when someone does that, they probably really want that item.

20+ hours to go and the book is up to $76.50! Seems like a lot, but I still think it's a bargain considering what they normally go for. Anybody here still going after it? If so...Good Luck!!

Is it possible to be bidding against the owner do you think?

Post by richina on Aug 20, 2010 13:54:33 GMT -5
No, I don't think so. Ebay wouldn't have it. Who's that "Cat" dude? Anyway, I think the owner is a big company that has a service to handle Ebay sales. (just my opinion) Because you don't pay through Paypal but another way. Don't worry, it's safe! Good luck!

Is it possible to be bidding against the owner do you think? Well, it is possible, I guess, but but sometimes difficult to prove, especially if the seller creates a second profile and uses a different computer for each one. That would be difficult to prove. But I like to think that most E Bay sellers are honest. Peace,Vivian

Not to mention the fact that I just ran the bidding up on a "Harold and Maude" soundtrack lp. I wasn't about to let somebody walk away with it for $154.57....I made 'em pay $260 for it. Hee hee Ain't I bad? Hope it wasn't anyone here. Don't worry, I wanted it, but was only willing to pay $250 for it. I was looking at it as an investment. They don't come up for sale often and only 2500 were printed in 2007. (cost $29.95 at the time ) This one had bruise pink vinyl. Hate I missed it!
