I am very happy to again hear something new from Yusuf. I thought it was over with his music. This is a beautiful, simple and clever. Something like: If You Want To Sing Out, Sing Out. Really now, I needed more than ever to do what I want but not to hurt anyone.

However, Yusuf on his reply to a fan stated that the single will not be released on the soundtrack. To some fans, this could be taken as a hint for a brand new album from the legendary cats in the near future. Could it be true?

oglobo.globo.com/cultura/no-rio-yusuf-islam-reencontra-cat-stevens-10783526I translated only a part of this article in where he mentions his future album: "I'm doing some experiments in Los Angeles, with a lot of songs that I had no time to record because I spent two years busy with my musical Moonshadow. One of the genres I want to visit in this album is the blues, it was my favorite music as a teenager, along with the rhythm & blues"

He is working on a new album, his first since 2009's "Roadsinger," which he says has "a kind of bluesy" tone at the moment.
"That's an area of my musical background and influence which has never really revealed itself to people," he notes. "It's something I've always wanted to do. Going back to the 60s, all of Britain was enamored with what was happening in the blues world, and I was one of those who was an avid fan of blues and R&B. And in the end my voice seems to be quite interestingly suited to that kind of genre, too, and I'm having a great time doing it."
Yusuf says he hopes to have the album out before the end of 2014.Full article here: www.billboard.com/articles/news/5847697/cat-stevens-on-rock-roll-hall-fame-induction-yusuf-islam-new-album

Is there any news about Yusuf's upcoming, new music? Well according to Facebook, Paul Samwell-Smith is involved in the project, something that's always been "beneficial" during Steve's career, to say the least.

To my way of thinking, the team of Paul Samwell-Smith and Yusuf proved supreme. There is obviously a great brand of chemistry that has always been shared by these two artists. Thank you for sharing this news. It is very exciting, indeed! -Bud

And the third member of that group has to be Alun Davies! There you have it - the perfect recipe for the best music ever!
Best to all,

This _is_ great news, Uruguayo, thank you so much for sharing! We've waited for five, (very) long years for a new release but, when it comes to Yusuf's works, any length of waiting is always well-worth it (why, even that 'brief' 28-year-long segue between 1978 and 2006!). -Bud

Listening to mixes from his new album at Gearbox Records (March 12)Gearbox Records comments on the new album:
"And the tracks sounded phenomenal too, great selection of songs and Yusuf's voice is beautiful!"
"He played the blues classic Big Boss Man and an incredible version of Edgar Winter's Dying To Live."

Very interesting and odd that this would come from a vinyl record company. Odd because that was the subject of my next post on the boards (my rediscovery of vinyl, my thoughts on this coming soon). In the meantime, can't wait to hear the new album, on vinyl and other media!

I stare anxiously awaiting the release of this album (which I think will be the best since his returning to music) and your opinions on vinyl, Charles. I am also a fan of vinyl. I have hundreds of albums since I started buying more than 35 years ago.

In a recent interview posted online re: Yusuf's upcoming induction into the 2014 Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame, he notes the following: "We’ve got a new album scheduled for the fall and I will be doing some touring then. I’m very up and excited about both." This is the first indication I've seen of a time frame for the release of the new album. Great news.

Already the RRHF echoes turned off, what lies ahead is a “long” wait of a few months until the release of the long-awaited new album of Yusuf/Cat. Until we have more news on the new album, we can discuss about the 2 songs we already know that will be on it. There are (at least) two renditions: Big boss man (Luther Dixon / Al Smith) and Dying to live (Edgar Winter). Let's begin with Big boss man.
(From Wikipedia): "Big Boss Man" is a blues song written by Luther Dixon and Al Smith in 1960 and first recorded by Jimmy Reed. The song was a hit for Reed and has been interpreted and recorded by a variety of artists, including Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis, BB King, Steve Miller, Tom Petty and Greatful Dead.
"Big Boss Man" is an uptempo twelve-bar blues shuffle that features "one of the most influential Reed grooves of all time." It was written by Jimmy Reed's manager, Al Smith, and Vee-Jay Records staff writer, Luther Dixon. The song is one of the few Reed hits that was written by someone other than Reed and his wife.
"Big Boss Man" was originally released on Jimmy Reed's 1960 album Found Love. In 1961, it was released as a single and reached No. 13 in the Billboard R&B chart and No. 78 in the Billboard Hot 100 pop chart.
In 1990, the song was inducted into the Blues Foundation Hall of Fame and included in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame list of the "500 Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll."
Lyrics:
BIG BOSS MAN (Luther Dixon/Al Smith) Big boss man Can you hear me when I call Big boss man Can you hear me when I call Oh, you ain‘t so big You‘re just tall, that‘s all You got me working, boss man Working 'round the clock I want me a drink of water You won't let me stop You big boss man Can you hear me when I call? Oh, you ain't so big You just tall, that's all Gonna get myself a boss man One gonna treat me right Work me hard in the day time But I'll sure rest easy at night Big boss man Can you hear me when I call? Oh, you ain‘t so big You just tall, that‘s all

Here we have three very different renditions of the song: the original of Jimmy Reed (1960), the one that made Elvis Presley in 1967 and 1986 Steve Miller's version..
How you imagine will sound Yusuf's version?
