I loved Richie Havens, and this reminded me that Yusuf had always held him in high esteem. Another sweet voice added to "The Heavenly Choir". I note that all of my fellow Majicatters, in their typically kind, generous, and classy manner, have resisted any temptation to correct my inexcusable error about Yusuf's birthday month -- and for this, I am most grateful! _July_, it is! ;D (Unlike Yusuf, you see, my sharpness of memory is not aging gracefully) -Bud Congratulations to the proud parents, grandparents, and siblings! Richie's take on "Peace Train" is outstanding, Affy -- I can well appreciate your appreciation of it. And the pure intensity of his guitar-strumming reflected what was taking place in the man's heart and soul. So greatly missed, already. -Bud

What a pity!
From Yusuf/Cat Stevens Facebook:
Correction to the announcement of the Mikhail Gorbachev "The Future We Want" Musical:
Contrary to certain rumours, Yusuf / Cat Stevens will not be performing at the Gorbachev Musical in Geneva. The confusion arose because his brother David Gordon, who wrote the Musical score, also included some songs of Cat's in the Musical. It is confirmed that Sharon Stone will perform in the musical and Yusuf is hoping to attend the event to support his brother and honour the peace endeavours of the former President, Mikhail Gorbachev.

HA! It wasn't our Cat - no "r", but I'd bet my CD collection that it was the infamous former playboy Warren Beatty! After all, as Carly said - it's not NOT about Warren. As we all know, a double negative equals a positive.

I'm sorry Aurarisma. I received the images to my Facebook from T4f (the producer that brings Yusuf to Brazil). The magazine is put on sale tomorrow. There is no link yet to this article in Veja's website. Maybe on the next days.
Tomorrow I will try to translate some interesting parts of the interview to my majicatters friends.
Regards, Ale.

I translated only those parts of the interview where he says something different from what he has said in previous interviews. Apologies for the errors of translation. I hope not many.
- Spirituality already appeared in your lyrics before you become Yusuf, right? I know two ways of writing lyrics. The first one -and more common- is autobiographical. Then my compositions relate to my dreams and inspirations, my successes and my failures. Spiritual search was adressed in many of these songs. I have already talked about my years of self-communion. Roadsinger, the song that gives name to my last album from 2009, talks exactly about the period in wich I abandoned my artistic career, and about what people thought about me. Aside from the autobiographical songs, the other way of composing and inventing stories, is, from them, make metaphors, a resource which Bob Dylan used with exemplary brilliance. But, if you follow my work, you will see that lyrics are predominantly autobiographical.
(about the musical Moonshadow): … The next step is to transform the story into a children's book. But I did not give up on bringing this show to Broadway in New York, and to the West End in London.
- How was the time you lived in Brazil, in the 70's? I lived in Rio for 3 years. I had an apartment in Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas, one of the best views in the world. My best friends were the drummer Jim Capaldi and the actress Florinda Bolkan. But I never thought about doing shows in Brazil. First because it was a period that I was a little hidden, not wanting publicity. And because you have so beautiful music that I felt embarrassed to show my compositions. But Brazil will have again an important role in my artistic life. The shows there will be the first I do in a long time. The last performance I did was in Lebanon two years ago.
- Did you have contact with Brazilian musicians? Yes, I had the chance to talk to Gilberto Gil, and I adored Gal Costa and Milton Nascimento, to whom I dedicated the instrumental music Nascimento. Today, unfortunately, I'm not aware of what happens in Brazilian music. I'm not really aware of what is happening with music anywhere in the world. In general, when I start to get interested in a style, that style went out of fashion. Want an example? I knew that there was a musical genre called grunge because seven years ago my son showed it to me. But you know this is even a good thing? Because this way I can analyze a style with the necessary distance. And yes, I like grunge music.
(…) With An Other Cup, I could prove that my conversion did not alter my musicality, much less, the issues that have always been part of my discography. If you listen to lyrics as The Beloved, you will see that is similar to Morning has Broken, of the time when I was Cat Stevens. An Other Cup had a pompous production, different from my previous work. So when I went to record my next album, Roadsinger, I opted for simpler arrangements. All songs were recorded on the first take, and in a single day. No need to play a second time.
