I translated only those parts of the interview where he says something different from what he has said in previous interviews. Apologies for the errors of translation. I hope not many. - Spirituality already appeared in your lyrics before you become Yusuf, right?I know two ways of writing lyrics. The first one -and more common- is autobiographical. Then my compositions relate to my dreams and inspirations, my successes and my failures. Spiritual search was adressed in many of these songs. I have already talked about my years of self-communion. Roadsinger, the song that gives name to my last album from 2009, talks exactly about the period in wich I abandoned my artistic career, and about what people thought about me. Aside from the autobiographical songs, the other way of composing and inventing stories, is, from them, make metaphors, a resource which Bob Dylan used with exemplary brilliance. But, if you follow my work, you will see that lyrics are predominantly autobiographical. (about the musical Moonshadow): … The next step is to transform the story into a children's book. But I did not give up on bringing this show to Broadway in New York, and to the West End in London. - How was the time you lived in Brazil, in the 70's?I lived in Rio for 3 years. I had an apartment in Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas, one of the best views in the world. My best friends were the drummer Jim Capaldi and the actress Florinda Bolkan. But I never thought about doing shows in Brazil. First because it was a period that I was a little hidden, not wanting publicity. And because you have so beautiful music that I felt embarrassed to show my compositions. But Brazil will have again an important role in my artistic life. The shows there will be the first I do in a long time. The last performance I did was in Lebanon two years ago. - Did you have contact with Brazilian musicians?Yes, I had the chance to talk to Gilberto Gil, and I adored Gal Costa and Milton Nascimento, to whom I dedicated the instrumental music Nascimento. Today, unfortunately, I'm not aware of what happens in Brazilian music. I'm not really aware of what is happening with music anywhere in the world. In general, when I start to get interested in a style, that style went out of fashion. Want an example? I knew that there was a musical genre called grunge because seven years ago my son showed it to me. But you know this is even a good thing? Because this way I can analyze a style with the necessary distance. And yes, I like grunge music. (…) With An Other Cup, I could prove that my conversion did not alter my musicality, much less, the issues that have always been part of my discography. If you listen to lyrics as The Beloved, you will see that is similar to Morning has Broken, of the time when I was Cat Stevens. An Other Cup had a pompous production, different from my previous work. So when I went to record my next album, Roadsinger, I opted for simpler arrangements. All songs were recorded on the first take, and in a single day. No need to play a second time. Oh thank you sooooooooooooooooooo much for translating this !!!! I'm leaving tomorrow for Sao Paulo I think you are going to the concert in Argentina oxoxooxxoxo

That's right, Aurarisma. I will attend Buenos Aires' concert, on November 23. I will try to take some photos and video and then posted here as well as a report of the concert. I will be waiting for yours, although I will not read anything of the Brazilian concerts till the Buenos Aires concert. I want the surprise. Not knowing the songs he will sing. Have a great time! Ale. He's already in Sao Paulo:

Chilean TV program, because of the Yusuf's upcoming concerts in Chile Thank you very much for sharing Ale! Understood about 40% of it but still a very interesting report. Love that they included a snippet of "How Can I Tell You". I'd be curious to know why he doesn't include it in his setlist.

Early picture? Rehearsal from Tonight Show maybe? - rather see his eyes than the sunglasses. Hope this isn't a new trend - seeing his facial expressions really adds to his song delivery.

In the new comedy "Rock the Casbah" by veteran Barry Levinson ("Rain Man," "Good Morning, Vietnam," "Wag the Dog") decides to move Bill Murray as a burned-out music manager to Afghanistan. Once there, he comes from a faux pas to the next. The entertaining ensemble piece is completed by Bruce Willis, Kate Hudson, Zooey Deschanel, Scott Caan and Danny McBride. For the music they could win Yusuf Islam (formerly Cat Stevens). The shooting started recently in Morocco.

Thank you Blossom, enjoyed every minute of the interview. Yusuf relaxed and excited about the new tour. Even though he was away from the music scene, and it seemed it wasn't on his list of priorities, somehow it seems to hurt about being called late into the Hall of Fame. Can't wait to see photos of the stage design with the peace train. Lucky are the ones who will be going. Maybe there will also be a small train outide the venues too, just like the VW peace van. I hope there will be a loud whistle blow, smoke, puff, puff, chuff, chuff, chuff, and then someone calling" ALL ABOARD" !!!!!!

I am very, very sad for all that comments on Yahoo... can't beleive that so much brain washed people exist in this world, no to be too particular Among hundreds of comments only a few are free of hate, ignorance... can't believe... it is not a small portion of them, but maybe 99% ! Horrible. B.

It's for that reason that I don't read the comments following articles, etcetera on the internet. It brings out the self-proclaimed experts on everything, who are in fact the least informed people. They feel they can say whatever they want under the pretense of being faceless and anonymous.
I deleted my post. Crobarbie, feel free to delete yours as well, being that it references mine. Very sad indeed.

Very sad indeed. Why delete your post? It was a good article. Read a few of the comments this morning, but these comments are nothing new. I went back to read the article just a few minutes ago and I didn't see any comments now, very strange. With so much happening in the middle east, and the consatnt threat of terrorist attacks, hostages, I still believe these people are a minority. I think Yusuf and his devoted fans will just have to learn to live with this.

Well, those comments on Yahoo were a huge exception, because in a last week or two they were also articles on few others USA online media's, but nowhere like today on a Yahoo was a such big concentration of hate toward Muslims, Yusuf etc., like it is some right wing blog. So, I was very upset with this, because when I was reading them a cca 300 comments were posted, and cca 95% of them were very, very ugly. Yes, there were such a comments also on others medias, but not more then 20 %, this today on Yahoo was a very, very big difference in a concentartion of hatters. But, it seems that in Yahoo became aware of this, so they removed those comments.
And "Why acknowledge the negative IN ANYTHING!?" Because it is reality, and we can't pretend that it is not here... in other case, we will be surprise how big sometimes can the evil in people grow, to what proportion... pretending not to see is very dangerous, and I think that it is also reason why Yusuf is back, with all the risks it can bring.
Peace,
Barney

Dear Barney ,
That's not reality, that's ones perception of reality . There is only one Ultimate Reality and then a lot of perception and what one puts meaning to.. The only one's who are unhappy and concerned about their comments are the one's who are spewing them and the ones who are giving them life. They aren't worth it when there is so much to talk about .. the fabulous interview and the new song premiere!!
Did anyone yet mention that a song has broke ?? Tell Em I'm Gone!!
It's amazing!
It's what we give life to that takes flight or weighs us down. If we keep recognition on things that have loving meaning.. we can create a reality worth living..the rest get extinguished by not giving it life....
I'm sure no one is losing sleep over any of that heresay .. xoxox
Are you going to any of the concerts Barney??? xo Aurarisma

You might say it may be bad timing again on Yusufs part, but then again will there ever be the right time. He is also being critisized by some muslims now, but his come back is a very personal matter, I think it goes beyond his religious beliefs, so I have to agree with you, maybe this is the reason he is back with all the obvious risks. It is sad, "the evil that's been done, is still carrying on", lets hope Yusuf will have a more positive response during the tour.

It is sad, "the evil that's been done, is still carrying on", lets hope Yusuf will have a more positive response during the tour. It's your reality .. It is not my reality . My meaning of Life are "my choices" and what I give "life to" .. like the most recent interview Yusuf gave . I love that interview .. I put meaning to my own life with my choices, and thus it is my reality .. worldly news is "current events" and are perceptions of what is going on in the world .. and most of the media get it wrong but there is reality in it . those comments are distractions for you, and can wrap people "in it" .. see we have choices to talk about it and give it life, or talk about the album and keep positive that is the spiritual decisioning. like the last verse in Yusuf's version of "You are My Sunshine" that is exactly what the devil wants you to do ... lead you astray..take that smile off your face.. love that last verse about what his mother told him!! and I can assure you the non-sensical comments are not bothering him ... he's got a fabulous tour and album coming out and so much more .. always going to be haters in our lives at our jobs ... it doesn't have power over us . not even to talk about it if we choose that . so lets agree to disagree.. I definitely don't mind if anyone disagrees with me .. I respect what you have created your reality to be .. and lastly downunder the response is very positive for the tour because they are sold out xoxoxxox I'm going to all but one .. my xmas present to me !! I will video some of the audience and interview them !!! I enjoy doing that!!! ps . @downunder pretending to see can be quite dangerous too... xoox

I do not live a fool's paradise. Obviously you did not read my first post on the subject. Never mind. I have no doubt that the album and tour will be a success, I was talking about another response. I'm honestly happy you are going to all but one concert, but there are some who are not in such a position to go to even one for reasons you might not be able to percieve. I patiently await for you posts after the concerts to make up for my loss..... Peace
