Don't you like this one? Ale. Yes, I do!! I kind of wish he had put the album out under that name so everyone would know who it was when they saw it! I know he wouldn't do that, though.

Does anybody know that if Yusuf Islam has any songs in muhammedian scale or arabian scale in his new album? Well, I can't tell you for sure but I think I read in one review that there is a song abot the prophet Muhammed or something, and there's another one about how good people will go to heaven and bad people will go to hell. Also there is a small spoken poem 'inspired' by a famous muslim, though I can't say who, I forgot...

The Beloved, In the End, and Whispers from a Spiritual Garden (inspired by Rumi). (thanks to John Gibbons' heartfelt review on that other website... )

As far as "scale" do you mean "makam" or "subject matter"? If you mean "makam" in terms of music scale, we'll have to wait and see. There is a saz on this recording, so there well may be some riffs -- if not a complete song.
(I think you probably mean "subject matter" because there is no such thing as a "muhammedian" scale -- at least not to my knowledge. There are several musical scales that are used in religious music, but I've never heard any of them called muhammedian.)

Names are important, everyone knows who Yusuf Islam is and was. I think that's how it should be, that people don't actually notice. He's born again as a Muslim and they are still the same person after all. "The artist formerly known as...." title just isn't necessary anymore, the fact that he's made a great new album is more than enough. You can't expect they guy to change his name back or wear flares even.
Best wishes!

HuruAs salaamu alaykom, brother. And welcome to this site. I agree with sr. huru that you most likely are wondering if there is Islamic content in the new music. The answer is yes. If you are wondering if there is 'Middle Eastern' musical influence, the answer is still yes. The video has Islamic content as well. kareema

jguitar.com/scale?root=A&scale=Mohammedan&fret=2&labels=none¬es=sharps I was trying to mean "makam".. I won't argue the content of the song at this stage, bcs first it should sound familiar. Using this scale (above link) you can ever cover the old songs. Especially solo guitars sounds so well in arabic scales. I also use it and very impressive. You should check it on your own.

I'm against islamic content which sounds like brain washing for the people who has not enough knowledge for sufism, (they keep repeating the same words). So the real content must be secret. As a muslim, The most holy song i've ever heard in my life is "enigma - return the innocence" for years. There is an orient father here who screams completely meaningless words to me, but it sounds holy. This should be the soul. And as a muslim, i miss Cat stevens' songs like "wild world" or "morning has broken". I think it still can be composed like these old classics in oriental soul. I'm searching that in the new album of Yusuf islam. Any suggestions for the song??

I know we are not supposed to discuss politics or religion here, but I would like to point out to the fans here that in addition to dark green, those are the colors very often seen in Muslim countries. Very subtle. Good going, Br. Yusuf! I didin't think of this before, huru, you're right. And have a look at those images at the bottom of the album cover. I think that they may be archways in a mosque courtyard. kareema

According to the track listing we all know, track 12 was supposed to be a song called "Badmind". But, on the track listing on Amazon USA there are "only" 11 songs. On Amazon's UK site there is a track 12 called: "There Is Peace". It figures as a UK Bonus Track.
Anyone knows anything about this?
Ale.

You may well be right, though.

Merhaba sinan. Great, I am glad you are doing that. Interesting. Unfortunately my days of being absorbed in Turkish, Persian and Arabic makams are long past at this point... My head is now buried in religious studies books. I am an ashik only in my dreams at this point
And personally I am going to be very happy when people have had their fill of Rumi and start searching for other equally as inspiring words from equally as important Sufi poets such as YUNUS EMRE, Kabir, etc.
I take it you have quite enjoyed "Footsteps in the Light"??

Hi Sinan. Wait a minute. Am I missing something here? I don't see the Cordoba mosque at the bottom of the album cover. The artwork looks like rock formations.
Is there a depiction of the Cordoba mosque on the cover of the new album? I don't see it. And I don't think kareema intended to convey that there is a depiction of the Cordoba mosque on the album cover, but perhaps she did.
Thanks, Huru

I think I would prefer "There Is Peace" to "Bad Mind" although it dosen't look like we will be getting either! Sorry Lucy. BTW I listened to Yanni's "Snowfall" back and forth to work today I found it very relaxing!

Our friend John Gibbons had received recently a copy of An Other Cup from Atlantic Records. He had posted an interesting review of the album on his web site dashing.com. Here is it:
