What a nice interview. Thats right Yusuf, if Lenny can do it at 75 you can definately do it at 61. It sounds like he is getting really excited about the Liverpool concert and the Beatles connection.

I have the 11 language book. The scarce edition is actually the hard cover edition. Though, the 11 lauguage edition is produced on much better quality paper and the cover is heavier ply than the 3 launguage.
Incognita, you can usually locate the Teaser book on ebay.

I always love the song "How Many Times" The quiver in his voice just gets to me each time I listen to it. I don't know if it is my favorite heart break song, I think that goes to Where Do The Children Play. But it definately ranks in the top 5 heart break songs.

Hi Folks, I have been experiencing internet connection problems from "h-e-double-hockey-sticks" for the past few weeks. I am writing/typing this to you from my local library (the only way I am able to access the 'net at the present time). Just wanted you all to know that I am in the process of lining up a new WiFi provider at home, and it will be with a most happy heart that I shall re-connect with all of my friends at Majicat in the near future. I miss you guys more than I can say, and I look so forward to rejoining my fellow Majicatters soon. In the meantime (and these really _have_ been 'mean times'!), take good care! -Bud Hey Budaroo, It is so nice to see you back. Sorry to hear about your internet connection. I know how disrupting that can be. And what a pain in the rear! I know I have experienced it in the past my self. So glad you can at least visit via the library. Good luck with your internet! Missed Ya Chris

Also, did you notice that his fans brought the cold play song to his attention?? Cool! He must be reading the boards here and there.

Thanks for the post Christine! Great interview and very candid. One thing I can't believe is that he doesn't like "Can't Keep It In"! I love that song and have always felt very uplifted by it!! Oh well, he's got the right to not like something he wrote...just hard to believe. It must have written via email. Did you notice where he says... (See my answer above) or something to that effect. As for Can't Keep It in, I can see where he might not like it, considering the theme of the song, .... But I love it... it's not one of my favorites, though. Chris

Here is the most recent Interview. It is from Click Liverpool. CLICK INTERVIEW~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ INTERVIEW: Music legend Cat Stevens by John Harkin. Published Fri 23 Oct 2009 11:32 Yusuf Islam is one of the most controversial pop icons of the last 50-years. Better known as Cat Stevens, Yusuf has had a string of massive hits throughout his illustrious career, including Wild World, Moonshadow, Morning Has Broken and Matthew and Son. The music icon is now making his long-awaited touring return and ClickLiverpool caught up with Yusuf to talk about his comeback, the X-Factor and why you shouldn't mention Coldplay.... CLICK: Hi Yusuf, how does it feel to be touring again? YUSUF: I feel like Cecil B DeMills; it's a complex operation, but I'm excited by the prospects. CLICK: You were away from the music business for 25-years, what made you come back? YUSUF: Today there’s a whole new audience listening to my old recordings. It’s encouraging to see a brand new generation being inspired by some of the probing themes of my songs. I once went through a stage where I turned my back on everything that I’d done before, but of course that was an over zealous reaction to the spiritual happiness that I’d discovered in Islam. Now, the music's coming home again and I’ve picked up the guitar – the piano is a little too heavy for me right now! CLICK: You first started your musical career 43 years ago, are you still enjoying it now as much as you were in 1966? YUSUF: Certainly, but the music world has changed. It's more corporate where there are only a few Giant companies running the shop. I never worked well with company regimes. CLICK: You have toured with some amazing artists, who is the most talented musician you have ever had the pleasure of working with? YUSUF: Hendrix and Chick Corea. CLICK You recently claimed you would consider a lawsuit against Coldplay as their song Viva La Vida bore resemblences to your song “Foreigner Suite”. Now that Coldplay have reached a settlement with Joe Satriani, will you be pursuing your lawsuit against the band? YUSUF: It's been blown out of proportion. One day I simply mentioned something to somebody, which some of my fans thought was obvious. But what most people missed is that I stole the same melody from myself and rewrote a whole new song for my previous Album released in 2006 called, An Other Cup! The song was called Heaven/Where True Love Goes. Now, actually, that does sound more like Cold Play than Foreigner Suite. Should I sue twice? CLICK: You sold the song "The First Cut Is The Deepest" for £30.. does it annoy you that so many artists have had such massive success with the track since you relinquished the rights? YUSUF: Not true, I still receive royalties but they were halved through a cunning publisher deal made when I was still green. CLICK: Have you been recording new material recently? YUSUF: A new Album is being written, but first I have started recording a Concept Album of the Musical, Moonshadow. A single of Matthew & Son may soon be released, it's a killer! CLICK: What do you make of the music scene today? YUSUF: The X-Factor trend describes where it's got to. CLICK: Who are your favourite modern day musicians? YUSUF: Tom Waits, Green Day, Red Hot Chilly Peppers and.. not Cold Play! CLICK: Are shows like the X-Factor destroying genuine music talent and diluting the industry as a whole? YUSUF: Please see my answer above - exactly my sentiments. CLICK: How have you developed as an artist in the past few years? YUSUF: I have a great respect for musical individuality and style. That's why I continue to explore to do things never done -write songs which have not been written. CLICK: Is there any famous songs of yours which you don't like? YUSUF: Can't Keep It In. Yusuf Islam will be performing at Liverpool's Echo Arena on Dec 5. Yusuf will also be performing in varuious venues in the UK on the following dates: November 23 – Birmingham NIA December 8 – London Royal Albert Hall As well as the hits and songs from new album Roadsinger, the show will feature a 30 minute preview of Yusuf's debut musical 'Moonshadow' with full cast.

Very Nice Teaser! I listened to both songs and really liked both. You have a nice gift of song writing. I think Yusuf would be impressed.
Al did an equally impressive job of putting the songs to music. Thank you so much for sharing these with us. I can't decide which song I like better. You and Al make a very good collaboration.

Elvis Costello Covers Cat Stevens by Paul Cashmere - October 7 2009
The new Ricky Gervais film `The Invention of Lying` will feature Elvis Costello covering Cat Stevens` `Sitting`.
Cat Stevens recorded the song for his 1972 album ‘Catch Bull At Four’. Right now there is no word of a soundtrack album to officially release the Costello version of the song.
The film also stars Jennifer Garner and Jeffrey Tambor.
The plot is about a world where no-one has ever lied until someone invents the lie.
Ricky Gervais stars as liar Marl Bellison and also wrote and directed the movie. It will be released on November 29.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hmmm this will be interesting to hear. I love some of Elvis C's earlier cover songs. I have heard quite a few.
Soitis, I recieved a few emails on the majicat email from people mentioning they would be attending the Dublin concert. Unfortunately they didn't mention anything about a meetup. Just the excitement of going to the concert.
Hopefully you will be able to meet some very nice like minded people in Ireland.
Have a wonderful time in Dublin and at the concert. Christine
This is what Yusuf says about on his website about attending the School event.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yusuf To Open New Building At Hugh Myddleton On Tuesday October 6th Yusuf will be visiting his old school, Hugh Myddleton in Clerkenwell, London, to open a new £2m redevelopment, which includes brand new music facilities.
On the day Yusuf will be interviewed by children from the school who are also planning to perform ‘Morning Has Broken’ for him.
Yusuf attended Hugh Myddleton in the ’60s, when it was a secondary school (it is now a primary school). He left with one O-level in art.
Says Yusuf:
“Those days when I was going to that school, there was a great revolution in music, I was listening to Radio Caroline, the pirates, and the Beatles were taking over the world.
There were no music lessons in the curriculum, you created those yourself after school. I’ve got a lot of good memories of the school and certain teachers that inspired me, particularly in the art department.” ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I think it is so kind and thoughtful for Yusuf to help his old school out. You Rock Yusuf!

I hope Chris & Annie make it back in time to get some tickets. What a time to be on vacation? Hey Eduardo, Uwe & Colleen Have a wonderful time in London Town! It's amazing how many people are going. It's made me think about even renewing my passport, it expired in August. Maybe one of these years I'll even make it over there.

Oh Bud, your making me blush. Actually this message board works so well, because there are so many wonderful compassionate people who deeply care about one another. It's wonderful to see how it has evolved into tight knit family of sorts. Thank You Majicatters! A friend told me many years ago, when the site was relatively new, that it was a 'Warm & Fuzzy 'place. I just try to keep it that way for her and for everyone who visits. And it seems everyone seems to have the same goal in mind by doing their part in keeping it peaceful.
