www.bbc.co.uk/london/content/articles/2005/10/13/danny_baker_feature.shtmlYusuf was on the Danny Baker Show last Thursday, March 29th. He did a very interesting, very long interview and it is available on the "listen again" feature on the BBC Radio Player. Click on right-hand side of page where it says listen again and click. That will take you to the player. Go down to where it says A-Z list of shows to "Danny Baker" and click on Thursday. It will only be there until the Thursday Show airs tomorrow, I think. It starts about at 35 or so minutes in. When it sounds like it's over, it is not. Yusuf comes back for around another 10 minutes after the lengthy break. This portion starts at about the 1:02 mark. After the interview "The Beloved" is played. I just found this so very sorry it's such late notice. Maybe Joanne can do her magic and make an mp3 of it. What a Great Interview. Thanks for the link Waterside I would have missed it otherwise! That's Danny Baker for you!!!

I have just seen this and put it through a translator, here's what came out...
Berlin, 22 March 2007 - Yusuf alias Cat Stevens ECHO receives the "special prices in the frame of the award of the German of music price life work as a musician and ambassador between the cultures". The British musician personally will accept the honor on the 25 March in Berlin and will sing the song album of appeared "Maybe There’s it A worlds" out of its ends last years "at Other Cup". Yusuf announced would publish, in the future it no more further new albums.
"Yusuf belongs to the entirely large personalities of the pop story", says Michael Haentjes, chairman of the board of the German Phono-academy. "Its meaning goes out at the same time far over the purely musical sphere. For Yusuf is a bridges farmer between the west and the islamic world. With the ECHO special price, Phono-academy lauds be the German musical, social and political engagement." The award produced by Werner Kimmig of the German of music price ECHO is transmitted on the 25 March, around 20.15 clock of RTL.
Yusuf published "at Other Cup", the first new album in the past November after 28 years. Million of fans in all world had waited longing for a musical life sign of the song-poet, that with soft Folk-hit as well as "Morning Has Broken", "Peace Train" or "Father & Son" classic of the pop story created. That 1947 in London as a son of a Greek father and a Swedish mother born Steven Demetri Georgiou Cat Stevens career made years in the second half of the 60er under the name as a pop music. 1968 sick it at tuberculosis and paused for two years. 1970 a shining comeback succeeded it with the album "Mona Bone Jackson". Albums as well as "Tea For The Tillerman" followed or "Buddha And The Chocolate box" - altogether master works. Cat Stevens advanced to a superstar of the '70er's.
He withdrew 1978 out of the music business, converted to Islam and changed its name in Yusuf Islam. Since its conversion, all shares of the profits flow out of its Plattenverkäufen into charity projects and/or into the islamic schools, that it constructed in north London. In the '90er's he engaged himself for in Bosnia, in the Kosovo and in Iraq active auxiliary projects of the United Nations. It recovered 2003 the world Social Award, and 2004 out of the hand of Michail Gorbatschow that one of Peace-Award. Yusuf understands itself today as a culture mediator: "The Moslem can in me something over the western company learn, and the west can through me Islam understand learn."
I am sure that Yusuf is going to release other albums, he has mentioned that he has been working on the next album in several interviews, if my memory serves me correctly, and yes I think it may have lost something in the translation. Prices being PRIZES for one. The Album, and Song titles for another. lol

BBC One Sessions TV special {Click Here For Article}(May 1st, 11.15pm)MOJO was on hand last week when Yusuf Islam, formerly known as Cat Stevens, performed his first headlining live concert since playing the Year of the Child concert at Wembley Stadium in 1979. Having retired in the belief that live music was against Islamic law, his recent resurgence followed a declaration that, "This issue of music in Islam is not as cut-and-dried as I was led to believe ...I relied on heresy, that was perhaps my mistake." Backed by a 9-piece band and surrounded by a Bedouin tent set, Islam recorded 16 tracks for a forthcoming BBC One Sessions TV special (May 1st, 11.15pm).............see top for link

Sorry, I didn't realise that you wouldn't be able to see it. We (in the UK) can't see a video of it either. This is all it said, Interview - Yusuf Islam Last week, the man who is arguably Britain's most famous Muslim returned to the world of pop music with a new album - his first for 28 years. Formerly known as Cat Stevens, he produced a string of hit records before his conversion to Islam in the 70's and a change of name - to Yusuf Islam. So having apparently shunned music for God - what's brought about this change of direction? Journalist and rock critic Robin Denselow met with him in London to find out. No link to anything other than Yusuf's site (Spinning Cup)

I've tried to access the UK Itunes but only have a US account and it keeps diverting me back to the US store. I would love buy the live "Oh Very Young" from the UK store. I think there is a place you can "gift" songs/albums. I'd gladly paypal reimbursement to any of our UK friends who'd be willing to work with me. An Other Cup is truly beautiful. I can't stop listening to it. So many times I catch Yusuf singing with the "voice" of young Steve on Matthew & Son and New Masters. I feel like am being reacquainted with an old friend. Someone pinch me. After all these years...can it really be? Sorry, but if you don't live in the UK you can't retrieve it!!! So it won't work.

Some may be interested in this months emel magazine (that's a muslim lifestyle magazine here in the uk), it contains a large article about yusuf and his return to music, hes also on the front cover, and there are some good pics inside too! in addition to that there is also a chance to win 10 SIGNED copies of the deluxe version of an other cup (one of those competitions that involves answering an unbelievably easy question) i don't know how availible the magazine is though but if you do see it i reccommend picking it up. Thanks for that Aziezahmed, Here's a link to it. www.emel.com/SuzieQ
