Quote from Yusuf 24th Sept 2006 regarding this...
“No explanation has actually been given, although I can now travel to US you know they are welcoming me, but eh, again strangely enough it seems to resound similarly to the kind of thing John Lennon went through back in the Nixon days when President Nixon was were going through this unpopular war and there was an election going on and they refused him entry into the US so you see there are similarities, but the reason was never given, but you know, I’m ready to forgive and forget providing I can have a good welcome when I get there.”

Hi there, I'm new here but I'd like to stay, it's good how all Cat/Yusuf fans can meet up here. Anyway I read somewhere that someone had seen a clip of Paul Mccartney and Yusuf singing Let it be but I cannot find one anywhere, can anyone help? Is there a web page I can see it on, if not, if anyone has it could they send it me? Is there an Mp3 of it available? Also if there's any other part of that concert available I'd love to see it. And by the way, can you see the Indian ocean live video anywhere? Thanks, Cristobal ;D Click this link and scroll down to my post! www.smallkindness.org/Yusuf Islam at Fortune Forum 27th September 2006 Yusuf Islam enthralled an audience of dignitaries at yesterday's Fortune Forum event which included former US President Bill Clinton and actor Michael Douglas. The event helped raise funds to tackle world poverty and showcase the work of key humanitarian organisations Yusuf's last major mainstream performance in London was in 1979 at UNICEF's Year of the Child concert. Now 27 years later, he offered a unique item in aid of his charity, Small Kindness. A special auction gave an opportunity to the winning bidder to attend a session with Yusuf Islam at a London studio during which they would witness a one-off recording of a classic Cat Stevens song for the donor to prize and keep.

Hey SuzieQ I just posted this too on cs.com - but I can barely hear it!! can you get good sound? The video is so crisp but the sound is pretty muted for me... I found it loud enough if you turn the sound up on the video player, but then the background noise is too loud. Sue Just a thought, if you have real player, open it up and check if the sound in on full if not turn it up. sometimes that can make a difference hope it helps.

This interview by Channel Four (More4 News) looks like it was at the Fortune Forum, The background noise is annoying, but the film is of good quality, even in full screen. Yusuf gives an explaination of "An Other Cup". www.channel4.com/player/v2/player.jsp?showId=1848

Please excuse any spelling mistakes or grammatical errors I'm not a typist. Andrew Marr interview with Yusuf Islam BBC1 9am Sunday 24th Sept 2006 Andrew's Introduction On Tuesday, the artist formally know as Cat Stevens, will stage his live comeback after more than a quarter of a century, in front of an audience including Bill Clinton, Michael Douglas and Richard Branson. The event in London aims to raise money for global poverty and in November he is going to release his first album in 28 years. Yusuf Islam joins me now, from our London studio, Good Morning, Thank you very much indeed for joining us. Yusuf– “Good morning Andrew” Andrew– “Good morning, Well, lets start off er with this er new album, it’s been an awful long time what made you decide you wanted to pick up a guitar again and start writing songs again.” Yusuf– “Er Well it’s a long story, but when I left music back you know about 28 years ago, I did it for many reasons and one of them was to sort of get a life, to actually start enjoy the fruits of a family, and what I discovered at that time was of course Islam. Now I believe, after having been a Muslim for so many years and having learnt quite a lot, um that there’s very good reason to come back and sing again.” Andrew– “Everybody watching, well most people watching will want to know sort of what the songs are going to sound like, are we going to feel that they are like your Cat Stevens songs that era, is it going to sound very different?” Yusuf– “It’s Me (he laughs) so it’s going to sound like that of course, because, although some people may have doubts that would happen because for a long time I was making records without using the guitar, just using spoken word etc and educational lectures and whatever, but this is like this is the real thing, so when my Son bought the guitar back into the house that was the turning point I think and it opened a flood of new ideas and music which I think a lot of people would connect with.” Andrew– “And these are the new songs that you have been writing yourself over the past year or so are they?” Yusuf– “Yes, one of the songs actually has been chosen to launch the album is em interestingly begins with a part of an old song back in 1974 a song called The Foreigner, em and so therefore there’s a close link and there’s one song in there which I wrote in 1968 which I never got to record and very interestingly in that song, it’s very poignant because at one point I say, when I’m talking about dreaming of a better world I say “I’m not the only one” and ten years after I wrote that song, that was written in 1968, John Lennon wrote his anthem Imagine and in that song he says the same thing so were not alone.” Andrew– “So you say you’re not alone in that sense as well, have you gotten to the bottom of this extraordinary incident when you were on your way to the United States and the plane was diverted and you were grabbed by the FBI do you think it was a case of mistaken identity do you know anymore about that?” Yusuf– “No explanation has actually been given, although I can now travel to US you know they are welcoming me, but eh, again strangely enough it seems to resound similarly to the kind of thing John Lennon went through back in the Nixon days when President Nixon was were going through this unpopular war and there was an election going on and they refused him entry into the US so you see there are similarities, but the reason was never given, but you know, I’m ready to forgive and forget providing I can have a good welcome when I get there.” Andrew– Now you must be one of the most prominent if not THE most prominent Muslim voice in the country. What do you say to, what do you feel when you see er some of the more extreme members of your faith, that character who was barracking John Reid for instance the other day? Yusuf– “What you’ve got to look at is that these are individuals, and you know, instead of blaming Islam, when a person actually doesn’t abide by basic etiquettes of Islamic life an behaviour, you can’t blame Islam you have to look at the individual who stands outside of the norms and does that kind of thing, so therefore I would say when people go outside of limits and to start use Islam as their banner you know, one must know a little bit more about Islam before you can judge what he’s saying, what he’s doing, but you’ll find that doesn’t resonate with the majority obviously of Muslims in this world and in all the teachings of Islam.” Andrew– “And how did you respond to what the Pope said, were you offended by that?” Yusuf– “Well, you know, I went to a Roman Catholic school so at one point I used to believe that the Pope was infallible and this only proves that obviously, he’s not, because of the interpretation he has of Islam! He should read Ghandi and find out what he said about Islam, he said “Far from being spread by the sword it was the prophets, the prophet Muhammad’s integrity, his belief and faith in his mission his patience and mercy that spread Islam.” Nothing to do with the sword, so he should have looked elsewhere if he wanted to quote, but we respect the Pope and his position, I do believe he has retracted in a way that statement and that’s all to the good.” Andrew– But it’s a difficult time clearly for the Muslim community, the mainstream Muslim community in this country and I guess across the west? Yusuf– “Difficult, but in the same time you know if you’re going to learn to fly you have to have a wind to help you and I think that there are many good things and many convergences of where good people want to join together and make this world better. I think in Britain also there a golden opportunity for the Muslims to help, to join in with the building of this country and it’s ideology, I think there’s a lot to do, I see it as positive, I once wrote a song called Moonshadow, in that song I explained that what ever happens to you there’s always something good to look forward to, that’s what I believe.” Andrew– Yusuf Islam former Cat Stevens, thank you very much, I do hope you will maybe come back and play some of your songs later on we’re all looking forward to that and rushing out to buy them when they hit the shops in November. Thank you very much indeed for joining us.” Yusuf– “Thank you.”

I (and few others) had, even during my stay in London. ok, folks ... you first heard it here - Yusuf does a cover of the Animals song, Don't let me be misunderstood . I feel that Yusuf love for Nina Simone's music may have something to do with the cover of "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" and not the Animals version. Sue

How wonderful! to have it confirmed that Yusuf is again playing the piano and keyboards. But if this album has been ready since December 2005, why do we have to wait sooooo long. Yusuf, certainly knows how to tease!
Thanks Christine for posting this, it has made my day. Now I'm even more impatient to hear this album. (If that's possible)
