Yusuf Islam became the center of a security alert today, when he was escorted from his flight by the FBI.The reason for this is,as yet,not clear although it appears that his name appeared on some kind of security list.He was refused entry into the US and is being sent home later today.

I've been away from the site for quite awhile due to a months long hospitalization for a really nasty lupus flare. I hope you've all been well and happy . I'm very sad that Yusuf Islam's detainment in the U.S. is what brought me back to the message board. I'm shocked that after years of charitable and philanthropic good deeds, and his record of condeming terrorism and tireless work for peace that he should be held against his will and denied entry into the U.S. I live in Maine where he is being detained and the local news is all over this story- because two of the 9/11 terrorists used the Portland, Maine airport to reach Boston I think the powers that be are extremely suspicious. How humiliating and insulting for him to be treated this way. I wish him a safe journey home and my apology as an American citizen and a resident of Maine, where we usually treat our guests in a much more respectful fashion.

jozthebest, I hope that you are recovering. I wish you well. I am absolutely shocked that Yusuf would be on a list of suspicious people. Do you suppose it is related to him being banned from Israel years ago? This doesn't make sense to me. I am so sorry that Yusuf was treated this way. I have yet to see it on the news myself. If I see it, I know that my jaws will drop in unbelief.

Thank you for your good wishes, I am gaining strength every day. I'm sure that whatever paranoid logic that Israeli officials used to deny Yusuf's entry into that country a few years ago is much the same that the U.S. is employing now to keep him out here as well. I'm all for national security and understand that there are people in this world will commit unspeakable acts to try to strongarm everyone into sharing their own twisted points of view. This doesn't pass the straight face test, though. If you could think of a single person who embodies the notion of peace on Earth, looking out for the poor and unfortunate, and nurturing the next generation through enlightened education it would be Yusuf Islam. I think this is all about Bush taking advantage of making this grand gesture - because we know the media will have a field day with it- to show how on top of fighting terrorism he is. It's totally about getting some good publicity for the election. We can only hope it backfires and people see it for the cheap shot that it is.

It's very sad, but it doesn't shock me... Ted Kennedy has been kicked off flights because he's on the same list and can't get off of it! I hope it's just a mistake (Yusuf Islam is a fairly common name) and they're not just targetting this poor guy for his faith... jack www.jackmctamney.comp.s. i can't even get on the catman's website today...

Yusuf has been in this country numerous times since, including just a few months ago, promoting Small Kindness, USA. And wasn't he in Chicago Labor Day weekend, as he is every year. This is completely senseless. Peace,Vivian

The leftist pansy had it coming. The last thing we need in this country is one more burned-out, tired, crybaby 60s type stirring up the hyper-emotional typical socialists who are in too great a number anyhow. VOTE FOR BUSH/CHENEY and buy stock in Halliburton.

The leftist pansy had it coming. The last thing we need in this country is one more burned-out, tired, crybaby Here we go .... the brainwashed qwacks are here.... and since I didn't realize there was another thread about this, here's my last message again: Cat Stevens Treated Like A Terrorist By US Government By Paul Cashmere 22 September 2004 The paranoia of the Bush administration has reached Nixon proportions with singer Cat Stevens being treated like a terrorist and denied entry into the USA. The 'Peace Train' singer, who at the height of his fame became a Muslim, was on Flight 919 to Washington from London yesterday when it was discovered that he was on a US government watch list including the 'no-fly' list......... T'was hard to reach that article at: www.undercover.com.au/news/2004/aug04/undercover.cssOf Nixon proportions... I'd say of McCarthy proportions... So what's next? deport him to Syria where he can be properly "interrogated" like Maher Arar was? www.cbc.ca/news/background/arar/arar_statement.htmlor better yet to the ILLEGAL Guantanamo "camp"? Sorry, but you CAN'T dissociate politics from this story. Hmmm.... what was the last and only other country that did this to him again? Hmmm? A little "intelligence sharing" between "friends"? Consider the original source of this, and it all clears up! SHAME.. SHAME.. SHAME.. SHAME... SHAME.... SHAME

Hi, Just wanted to let you all know that Yusuf is in good spirits and doing okay. (He sees this as just a dumb mistake, which is what it is.) I spoke with John for a moment today and he let me know. The Cat.com server has been very busy today which is the reason for the site slowness. (Amy, are you in poetry withdrawl yet??!!) ~ Ce

You're quite welcome. I saw it last night and though, "Oh, man, what is going on!!" I knew those who care for Yusuf would be worried, especially with cat.com being so bogged down as well, so I wanted to let you all know. I am just glad to know that Yusuf IS in good spirits and is able to rise above this. He's a good man. Let's keep sending good thoughts and support his way. . ~ Ce

The idea that no one will go without is an absolutely deplorable idea to anyone with intellect sufficient to understand conceptually the workings of nature, life, and the drive for survival. Only those who can "go with" on their own, without the assistance of others, should "go with". That the superior should sacrifice that which is theirs, which they have worked for and acquired through their own, voluntary-exchange based pursuit of their own wealth, to the inferior simply for the survival of the inferior (or so the inferior don't have to "go without" is to deny life to the superior and the inferior. It also represents a complete lack of efficiency in the allocation of resources, as the least productive, those unable to survive on their own, are provided a means of survival which they did not earn. This survival perpetuates their existence and the existence of their inferior genetic makeup in the overall gene pool, resulting in future generations of the inferior which are more inferior than the present. This is the ultimate lack of compassion, or, stated another way, the absolute embodiment of evil. However, the prevention of this evil is not the justification for ensuring that the superior are adequately rewarded for their superiority. The superior will be adequately, and naturally, rewarded for their superiority by simply being left to their own devices, free from restriction of any kind in the use of their property, their intellect, and their wealth, regardless of the consequences to the "collective".
