Thanks Sue,, Nice article.... And when I heard it was for benefit. I figured it would be way over all of our budgets, even if we pulled all together to send just one of us to the event.
Well, at least some lucky people will get a wonderful treat by attending the event.

contactmusic.com/news.nsf/article/islam%20hails%20clinton%20in%20comeback%20performance_1009483ISLAM HAILS CLINTON IN COMEBACK PERFORMANCE The artist formerly know as CAT STEVENS made his live comeback on Tuesday (26SEP06) by paying special tribute to former US President BILL CLINTON. The Muslim convert, now known as YUSUF ISLAM, performed at the launch of The Fortune Forum Club, a fundraising initiative, in London, and insisted he would never have agreed to the gig without the statesman's involvement. He said, "Bill Clinton is one of the good things we miss about America. "I remember being little and dreaming of the things this world offers. I promised myself if I got them I was going to give back." Islam played in front of a star-studded audience including MICHAEL DOUGLAS, SIR RICHARD BRANSON and supermodel LILY COLE, as well as his two daughters, ASMAN, 24, and AMINAH, 26. The MORNING HAS BROKEN singer converted to Islam in 1977 and quit the music industry two years later. He will release his first pop music album in 28 years in November (06). 28/09/2006 07:39

I'm too partial on Bill Clinton, this post of mine would soon turn to a praise and all things we don't want to discuss here, but I'm proud Mr. Clinton was there. So Regine, did you take the ferry in Oostende?

Oh yes, 1987...terrible... I'm too scared to fly though, I'd rather use the train as usual...that tunnel's not that bad after all.

Cat's out of the bag - & maybe U.S. www.nydailynews.com/front/story/462071p-388765c.html Oh, I'm on my way? Yusuf Islam (who won fame as Cat Stevens) has a record coming out, but the vocal Muslim may not be able to tour the U.S. The Artist Formerly Known As Cat Stevens might have difficulties entering the United States to promote his new release — his first pop album since 1978. Yusuf Islam, whose CD "An Other Cup" will be out Nov. 14, was sent back to England in 2004 after his flight was diverted to Maine and Customs and Border Protection agents questioned him there. While Islam admits to being "radical" when he first became a Muslim in the '70s, the deportation prompted Jon Stewart to quip, "We finally got the guy who wrote 'Peace Train.' " Ann Davis, a spokeswoman for the Transportation Security Agency, told us: "The TSA does not confirm whether any name is on or not on the 'no-fly' list. But Mr. Islam was a positive match on numerous watch lists when Customs and Borders Protection agents interviewed him in Maine. They refused him admission to the United States based on national security grounds." Islam was also deported from Israel for giving thousands of dollars to Hamas. More recently, the composer of "Wild World" and "Moonshadow" has tried to build understanding among Christians, Jews and Muslims. He called the 9/11 terrorist attacks "an offense against the true spirit of Islam" and recently sent Pope Benedict his book "The Life of the Last Prophet" after the pontiff made remarks perceived to be divisive. Islam's new lyrics don't mention Allah or the prophet Mohammed by name but in the song "Heaven," he sings, "If a storm should come and if you face a wave/That may be the chance for you to be saved/And if you make it through the trouble and the pain/That may be the time for you to know his name." Execs at Atlantic Records, which just signed Islam last month, are optimistic. "We don't yet have firm touring plans for Yusuf. We hope he will be coming here in mid-November," said label spokeswoman Sheila Richman. Or, as Islam sings, "I go where true love goes."

All in all, I think this is an excellent article, although I do wish they didn't bring up the Rushdie issue. Honestly, that issue should be long dead and buried. I like this part of the article best. Finally he has found a way of reconciling his faith and his musical career, and listening to An Other Cup is an extraordinary experience, as if the intervening years had never existed. Co-produced with Rick Nowells (whose other credits include Madonna, Dido and The Corrs), a couple of the songs were originally written in the 1960s and 1970s but never recorded. Yet, so readily do the new songs pick up where the former Cat Stevens left off, you'd be hard pressed to identify which ones are retreadsPeace,Vivian

Thanks for posting that Susie Q. I'm surprised there's not been more in the press considering release is imminent. They are really playing 'Heaven' a lot on the radio here in the UK. It's just like the old days!

It's just like the old days! Thanks George, You are most welcome. I love to play Cat/Yusuf's music in the car, but there is nothing like hearing an unexpected play on the radio As you say they are playing "Heaven" more and more, let's hope they keep it up!

Have you looked through the December issue of Mojo Magazine? I placed a scan of the promotional 'An Other Cup' advertizement on the home page of Majicat from Mojo. Check it out. There is also a 4 star review of the cd, which I hope to place up later on today. "Nice Ad" majicat.com
