I don't know if there is a thread like this here, if there is I can't find it. www.thisislondon.co.uk/music/articles/23280826?source=Evening%20Standard Snippets- Hers was a spectacular comeback. After five years away from the stage, Cerys Matthews eyed the audience at the Scala in King's Cross with visible nervousness. The strength to make that choice, she reveals, came from an entirely unexpected quarter. "I had a telephone call from Bob Dylan and from Yusuf Islam [the singer formerly known as Cat Stevens] in a two-week period and it gave me the confidence to follow what my heart was telling me, which was just to get out. I don't know why they rang, it happened out of the blue. SuzieQ

contactmusic.com/news.nsf/article/dylan%20saved%20matthews%20from%20heroin%20death_1003856 Welsh singer CERYS MATTHEWS credits a telephone conversation with BOB DYLAN with giving her the strength to beat her heroin addiction. The former CATATONIA frontwoman was slowly killing herself by taking the dangerous drug, because she is allergic to the opiate and her lungs began to fill up with liquid, slowly suffocating her. And when she was at her lowest ebb, Matthews was amazed to receive phonecalls from the iconic rocker and British singer YUSUF ISLAM - formerly known as CAT STEVENS - which made her realise how low she had sunk. She says, "I couldn't walk, couldn't breathe. I was allergic to heroin. My body would react against it. It fills your lungs up. You suffocate yourself. So what do you do? You make a conscious decision to live. It would have been the end if I hadn't made that decision. "I had a telephone call from Bob Dylan and from Yusuf Islam in a two-week period and it gave me the confidence to follow what my heart was telling me, which was just to get out. I don't know why they rang, it happened out of the blue. "I'd like to keep the conversations private but it was a strange time because I'd almost given up hope on everything and started to lose the plot a bit, and that's a pretty sorry place to be. (Then) these spiritual guides called and it helped me gather strength to change things and start again." Since kicking heroin, Matthews wed American producer SETH RIDDLE in 2003 and is the proud mother of two children. 28/07/2006 17:37 SuzieQ

I don't belong to the google list, but check it on a regular basis. I did notice it yesterday morning before I went to work, was going to write soemthing on your post yesterday, but never got around t o it.
Anyway, I never heard of Cery Matthews. Is she only known inside of the UK or Europe? Also I find it so comforting to hear stories such as this, with Yusuf lending moral support to his fellow man or in this case, woman. How nice to see he can help someone look at their life and try to correct the mistake. If that is what they talked about, it could have about music as well.
This also goes for Dylans role in helping Cery. Dylan and Yusuf are both forces to thankful for in Cery's case. What a nice article. Thanks Susie.

Cerys Matthews was on GMTV (Breakfast TV) the other morning and afterwards she did a live web chat, so I asked a question.... Sue: I read in the papers that a call from Yusuf Islam helped you, can you tell us more? Cerys Matthews: Sure - there was a point in 2002 where I was beginning to wonder if I would do music publicly again. I had call from Yusuf and Dylan. They were both positive and really helped me to record again. If you are interested, here's a link to the whole thing www.gm.tv/index.cfm?articleid=21851

But the song was actually about their break-up after she dumped him, moved on to Mick Jagger and eventually married Miami Vice star Don Johnson. Nowadays she doesn't have such happy memories of the song written for her. "I cried when Cat first sang the song for me," Patti, now 56, recalled. "I was flattered, of course. "But the song is about the death of our relationship. I much prefer Wild World, the song he wrote for me in happier days." Patti and Cat - now known as Yusuf Islam since his conversion to Islam - first dated in 1969 but split in 1974. She had a son with Don Johnson and three kids with current hubby, New York fireman Terry Quinn. Now an actress, she has a part in World Trade Center, Oliver Stone's new film about 9/11. She is no longer in touch with Cat, though she bumped into him a while ago. "He looked happy. That's all you can wish for anyone you've loved," she says. SuzieQ

www.bongonews.com/layout1.php?event=1356&topic=Cat Stevens is a Muslim Terrorist; Proves "Hollywood is Un-American," Says Bush -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cat Stevens on tour BANGOR, Maine — The artist formerly known as Cat Stevens was denied entry to the United States and deported because of his alleged funding of Muslim charities which in turn funded terrorists, US officials said. The London-born singer, who was born Stephen Georgiou (what king of a name is that???) and who changed his name to Yusuf Islam, was on a Dulles-bound plane which was forced to land in Bangor, Maine. He was taken from the plane and later placed on a plane back to London. "The whole thing is totally ridiculous," Stevens said on arrival at Heathrow airport. "Half of me wants to smile, and half of me wants to wrap explosives around my waist, hop and a crowded bus and show the world that Morning Has Broken.” “Baby, baby it’s a Wild World,’ he said. “Now that I’m on the ‘no-fly’ list I’ll take trains in future. In fact, I could blow one up as a Peace Train demonstration!” President Bush, on the campaign trail, immediately linked Cat Stevens’ arrest to the Whoopi Goldberg fundraiser for John Kerry. “This proves that Hollywood types are un-American, and that John Kerry is French.” Story by Arnold Schwarz’n’nigger. contactmusic.com/news.nsf/article/islam%20to%20make%20live%20comeback%20in%20front%20of%20stars_1008517 ISLAM TO MAKE LIVE COMEBACK IN FRONT OF STARS The artist formerly known as CAT STEVENS will stage his live comeback next week (begs25SEP06) in front of an audience including former US President BILL CLINTON, MICHAEL DOUGLAS, CATHERINE ZETA-JONES and SIR RICHARD BRANSON. The Muslim convert, now known as YUSUF ISLAM, will play at the launch of The Fortune Forum Club in London next Tuesday (26SEP06). The club aims to raise money for global poverty through a combination of using the contacts of influential people and fundraising. The MORNING HAS BROKEN singer converted to Islam in 1977 and quit the music industry two years later. He will release his first pop music album in 28 years in November (06). I have tried to search for The Fortune Forum Club but there is no info on this yet... It would seem that only STARS are allowed anyway

Another link www.soundgenerator.com/news/showarticle.cfm?articleid=8339&CFID=18465663&CFTOKEN=45512078Yusaf Islam to make live returnThe artist formerly known as Cat Stevens playing a fundraising concert Cat Stevens in a 1970's promotional picture Just a week after signing a new album deal with Atlantic Records, Yusuf Islam - the singer/songwriter formerly known as Cat Stevens - has confirmed plans for his live comeback. Islam has been confirmed to play at the launch of the Fortune Forum Club in London next Tuesday for a special fundraising event, with guest stars including former US president Bill Clinton, Sir Richard Branson and acting couple Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones. Yusuf's new album will hit record shops across North America in November following a deal with Atlantic Records, which comes 40 years after the release of his first album. 'He is one of the greatest singers and songwriters in history, and one of the personal heroes of my youth," said Atlantic Chairman/CEO Craig Kallman last week. "Yusuf's new songs are as moving and timeless as the classics that inspired a generation. His spiritual quest is one of the most extraordinary stories of our time - a life journey marked by courage, devotion, and transformation."
"We are all truly fortunate that Yusuf has chosen this moment to return to contemporary music, delivering a deeply heartfelt album that addresses peace, love, and the higher self'.I do hope someone will be recording this historic event!

I just rang the Royal Albert Box Office for details... They say that this is a separate event, they haven't herd of the The Fortune Forum Club Launch Only Bill Clinton will be speaking here.
So I believe that The Launch of Fortune Forum Club is happening after this on the same day, probably evening. Still can't find any more info on the Fortune Forum Club.

I finally found a contact for the Fortune Forum Hoorah... The ticket prices start at £1,000.00 Well, it is a fundraiser... Still, it's too steep for me. I did ask if the event will be recorded, and I was told " they are discussing it now" but she thinks so. Let's hope that someone can persuade them that it's a good idea!!! There website is www.fortuneforum.org/
