Thank you, Jane. This isn't on yusufislam.com so far, and I'm not on Facebook, so I wouldn't have known without you.
I wonder when we'll get to hear this. . .

Thank you, Jane. This isn't on yusufislam.com so far, and I'm not on Facebook, so I wouldn't have known without you. I wonder when we'll get to hear this. . . That is so strange that things are posted on his Facebook page before yusufislam.com. Sun - the only reason I am on Facebook is that my niece (the only one I have) lives far from me and Facebook is almost her sole method of communication. If it wasn't for Facebook I don't think I would even know her.

I have friends and family members who totally embrace Facebook; it's the quickest, least expensive, and most convenient way to stay connected to all those whom they hold near and dear. It seems Yusuf uses it for that reason, too.
I'm just a bit behind the times and have privacy concerns and time constraints. Excuses, excuses . . .

From yusufislam.com Freedom CallingThank God, change is coming. The massive world shaking call to freedom has been heard and Governments are beginning to listen to the voice of the people. Egypt is still crawling out of the shadows of its political past, and there are many other countries which are still under the yoke of authoritarian regimes.
Yusuf has written a song inspired by events in Egypt, entitled, ‘My People’. God willing, it will soon be available as a free download.

The beauty of the protests in Eqypt is that, on the part of the people, they were peaceful. And Yusuf's My People with a worldwide chorus is reminiscent of The 2011 MLK Reading Project:THE WORDS OF DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING, JR., SPOKEN BY THE PEOPLE
This August, the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial will open in Washington, D.C. In celebration, Chevrolet invites you to honor the legacy of Dr. King with your voice. Record yourself reading his words and share it with the world...The simple act of reading Dr. King's message aloud reinforces its timelessness. Let your recording be a symbol of support.
AWAKEN HIS SPIRIT IN ALL OF US "I say to you that our goal is freedom, and I believe we are going to get there ..." "I must confess, my friends, the road ahead will not always be smooth." "Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that." "Only when it is dark enough can you see the stars."

I found this interesting in view of Yusuf's new song. According to Obama salutes Egypt change, says tough days ahead, "President Barack Obama declared Friday the peaceful departure of Hosni Mubarak as Egypt's president marked "a beginning" holding the promise of greater democracy for the world's most populous Arab nation. But he added soberly, 'There will be difficult days ahead.'" And when I was searching on Yusuf's new song, "My People," I came across Why I’m Voting for Barack Obama: Yusuf Islam (Cat Stevens) Sings “Maybe There’s a World”:Perhaps it’s corny to vote for somebody because they give you hope.
Maybe it’s utopian—and not hard-nosed enough.
But I admit that I find Barack Obama to be a calm and steady man of peace and intelligence.
I see him as somebody who will, even if only a little, steer the arc of world history toward greater reason, justice, and understanding.
Here’s Yusuf Islam (Cat Stevens) singing a song that I think embodies the kinds of hopes that Barack Obama inspires (at least in me):

I do agree with the sentiment, personal political opinions aside. Both your comments made me chuckle, and it felt good. I'm glad you agree with the sentiment and put politics aside, peacock, because in my mind this transcends politics, religion, race, nationality and other differences. Even if it seems like the impossible dream, I hope we can all live in freedom, mutual respect, and peace. And this is what I want for all our children. Peace, ~Sun~

Egyptian Activists Inspired by Forgotten Martin Luther King Comic: While the world's political pundits debate the role the United States has played in the historical events presently occurring in Egypt, one activist is crediting a specific American with playing a part in inspiring a generation of Egyptians to take to the streets in a nonviolent protest that has changed the course of their nation. That American is Martin Luther King, Jr., and his message was transmitted by way of a 50-year-old comic book recently translated into Arabic and distributed throughout the Middle East.
Originally published by the Fellowship of Reconciliation in 1958, The Montgomery Story was a comic book that dealt explicitly with Dr. King's philosophy of non-violent civil disobedience, specifically with respect to the legendary Montgomery Bus Boycott. The book included a how-to section that demonstrated how the practice can actually yield results. ...
"The main message I hope that Arabic readers will take from the MLK comic book is that: change is not impossible. It is time to stop using our muscles blindly. Let's try using our intellect in innovative, creative ways to pressure decision makers and end dictatorship, tyranny and the suppression practiced against us."
...the translated Martin Luther King comic book had been identified as contributing to the air of peaceful revolution in Egypt.
...
"The comic book has been credited with inspiring young activists in Egypt and the larger region (we have a Farsi version as well). Last week I distributed copies in Tahrir Square. Seeing the scene in the square firsthand is amazing. Despite violent attacks and tanks in the street, young people from all walks of life are coming together, organizing food and medical care, and offering a living model of free civil society in action. You can read "Martin Luther King and the Montgomery Story" comic book in English at this link.

Love the Obama/MLK poster! The election of Obama did for me (but to a lesser extent) what the ouster of Mubarek is doing for Egyptians. When Obama was elected, the next morning, I bought an american flag, for the first time ever, and hung it on my house for a month. Finally, after 30 years of voting, it is wonderful to feel good about being an American. (I did have some serious qualms about that last speech ... "win the future?" .... )
