The recording is so beautifully clear, and when I sing with Yusuf, I really feel some of what he was feeling.
Thank you, Yusuf!
My People
Ooh ooh… Ooh ooh… My people When you gonna leave My people Give them room to breathe My people Stop oppressing My people All they want is bread and clothes Space to rest, and left alone My people When you’re goin’ to free My people Let them live in peace My people Stop killing My people All they need is dignity Chance to be free My people Stop making scared My people Let them out of jail My people Stop building walls Around my people When you going to show you care Join people in the square My people My people Wo oh oh oh oh oh oh … My people Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh … My people Ooh ooh ooh Ooh ooh Ooh ooh ooh ooh… My people See them coming now My people Can’t you hear them shout My people Every day everywhere My people Stop running from My people Stop stealing from My people Stop pointing guns at My people Oh oh oh Come on My people Come on Come on Come on My people Come on Come on My people God show them the way My people God show them the way My people See them pray My people My people Come on Come on My people Oh oh oh oh oh oh… Come on My people Come on My people Keep on keepin’ on…

There are five threads related to the new song in some way, and it's hard to know where to post. Guess I'll just post here and hope it's okay. LINK: My PeopleI think it's interesting how Yusuf uses this song to speak directly to the leaders, bravely raising his head above the crowd and offering his famous, world-renowned voice as a voice for the people, and thus helping them to be heard. And when the chorus sings, it's as if the whole world is speaking as one to the oppressors. When I think about it, I'm in awe at how powerful and amazing this is. The song is slow and clear, so everyone can get into the rhythm and join together. Its power is not in being loud and angry, but in its numbers and in being direct and persistent, until "my people" becomes like a mantra that unifies the world and makes the leaders listen. And I find Yusuf's voice to be strong and clear. It even reminds me of his voice in Ruins:

And I f :)ind Yusuf's voice to be strong and clear. It even reminds me of his voice in Ruins: @sun Yes Yes!!I completely agree and thank you for being so elequent.......My thoughts,if I may be so bold.... This beautiful well cosidered song , consists of one element, embraces all of one kind, involves only one power......in not analysable...... Its message had to be clear ,plain and unadorned......because it involves pain and suffering and anger and tears...its unelaborate and unadorned style ; in musicallity(methinks),arrangement, vocal and lyrics...Had to be seen to be straightforward...otherwise it would be seen as a frivilous self serving self absorved song that would envoke anger not love... This song needed to be thought deeply about BECAUSE of its affected simplicity I just so love Yusuf more and more....a risk taker for his beliefs and love of humanity ...(.please never betray this) He needs to stay safe..........., and yet again he has shown that he has that slappable knack of appearing simple as a guise for his wonderful complexity..flower child AND powerful persona, fairy on a petal and solid belief.... I wish I could speak simpliciter as he can....................... On this post yet again I prove that it can be SUCH a complex task to reach LUCIDITY ;D yusuf has walked the tightrope of this thing........The song to me, can be seen by all, as a well measured coup for musical activism............(if they so wish) Makes my adrenaline flow ........... Just got to have some breakfast now!!!

Anybody want to point out the location of that wall? I assume it's in Berlin? And that it is an actual wall, not a set, because a previous photo shows him walking along it down the sidewalk? It'd be fun to find it on Google Earth or something Edit: I Googled and I see it actually is the Berlin Wall. I suspected it would be. Look, even the sidewalk is painted! The eyeballs are watching you go by . . . .

Must have been repainted since the photo in Google Earth was taken.

This is what I wrote on Yusuf's website upon really being able to hear "My People" in a quite place ... Blessings to you Yusuf, This sincere song revealed so much to me once I found a quiet place in my inner island to realllllly listen to it –realizing that we r All Gods Heritage ..One Family , n our Birthright was given to us by Him. How beautiful that your heartstrings reached out to write something so beautiful n truly filled with love n thirst .. It filled me with The Pulse , The Sincere Cry of A Prayer from these turmoiled loving souls all over the world who are thirsting for n rightfully so what is theirs from their Father.. Our Father .“One Heritage” .. I so enjoyed how you wrote it or maybe it wrote itself like you like to say singing in the tense of the person who is fighting for their freedom, food and shelter, Love. > Birthright . ** I love the Riff at the end of the song too.. it sealed it to perfection like an Amen.** Thank you for being beautiful you xo Out of the Depths have they Cried and God hears …May God continue to bless and protect His Heritage. With the Love of God, Christina

aww thanks @sabina for saying it was a heartfelt response... I realized it it was a sincere cry from people that have a pulse in them to do just that when they know freedom is a birthright .. I just love the "riff" at the end.. the twill of the notes at the end of the song .. its like an amen ..!!! did you hear it xoxo I feel as long as Yusuf mentions that this song is written in the tense of the people that are crying out it is their anthem .... It will be understood.... ((( there are mindless ones that just dont get it lol .. ))) This song is actually quite brilliant and beyond!!

@yes a twill is a riff that comes from the heart that really is not created until the moment .. similar to a scat ... perhaps in the days back ~~~ xxoxo
