I have a very exciting announcement. A very special donor who has asked to remain anonymous has contributed enough for us to adopt a £1000 tile!!
When I first read the message from this person, my jaw dropped open, and I am still having difficulty keeping it closed this morning. I asked this person how they wanted to handle letting people know. I let them know I thought they deserved to be recognized, but also that I understood it was a personal decision. This was the response I received:
It's something I did from the heart, as a way to thank Christine, Yusuf, you and all the majicatters, and to hopefully help the Maqam Center to build some bridges…it's not about money, but simply about being majicatters.
Wow. I hope that each of you who read this, whether you chose to contribute to the tile or not, are as touched as I am by this extremely generous act of kindness and support for Yusuf’s work, and for the community we have here on Majicat.
This world is a better place with this person in it.

I dontknow why it wouldnt be but .. wondering why my friend hasnt received a confirmation after a while now . x

WOW!!!!!!! So now of course it's killing me that we don't know who this extremely generous and kind individual is??? The mystery majicatter....so very intriguing ;D THANK YOU SO MUCH MYSTERY MAJICATTER!!!! What an amazing gesture. You make us proud to be Majicatters. And thanks to Christine as well, without whom we would never have been able to claim that special title!

I don't know what confirmation your friend is waiting for, but the Adopt-a-Tile form requires that payment be sent with the form. I will send another email to The Maqam Centre to update them on the tile we are adopting - maybe I'll get a faster response?

Vicki, it is I who thank you. Thank you for all that you contribute to Majicat. You are a thoughtful, intelligent presence here... And a truly treasured one, as well. I'm so glad that you're back! -- I was, in fact, involved in the initial preparations for issuing an "APB" for your return to us. Where would Majicat be without its favorite Billy Mumy fan? Up the creek without a paddle! ;D Now, thankfully, there is no need for APB's, creeks, or paddles... Welcome back, Vicki! -Bud

It's so nice to hear from you, Vicki. I often think about you and wonder how everything is going. I tell myself, "Don't worry, Vicki will be back for the European tour." I hope I'm right. You are missed. I understand about not having a lot of time for posting. It's the same for me. But I hope we'll all find plenty of time starting in May! Thank you for being such a special and loyal majicatter and friend, Vicki. Peace, ~Sun~

Richina, thanks for dragging me out of the dinosaur age (as ilovemycat might say). It was fun, and they didn't charge me anything. And many thanks to you, Jane, for this terrific idea to purchase, I mean, adopt, a majicat tile, and for all the effort you're making to keep everything organized and moving ahead. It's really wonderful of you to make all of this effort on our behalf. Peace, ~Sun~

*****Update*****I just sent an email to the email address listed on The Maqam Centre's website. I explained that eleven of us contributed toward the tile and asked what we would be able to have engraved on it. I'll let you know what I hear back. If we cannot have our individual names on it, we need to decide what we will choose. Please start thinking of ideas while I await a response to my email. Thanks, everyone! Jane Thank you, Jane. Looking forward to hearing the response they send you. Oh, and it's so exciting to get the £1000 tile! Thanks to everyone for their contributions. I was just reading Donation form for the Adopt a Tile Campaign and noticed that the tile can have a name and a "company logo." I've thought of "majicat.com" for the name, of course, but does majicat have a logo? If not, can we come up with one? Would be great to hear everyone's thoughts - this is fun to think about. Peace, ~Sun~

********Update********
I just received a response from the Maqam Centre:
Dear Jane,
Thank you for your emails and your interest in adopting a tile at the Maqam.
I must admit this is the first request for a tile that includes the engraving of more than either a single name or name and surname so you can imagine a request for 11 names to be printed has thrown me a little.
It’s a very nice thought that 11 individuals have made a joint effort to support this exciting project and we are grateful.
The tiles and engraving will follow a uniformed format for aesthetic purposes and this in turn means that a specified number of characters can be used per tile which I doubt this will accomodate 11 names.
I will have to get back to you with an informed answer after speaking to my colleague who has more details on this.
In the meantime if you could send me exactly what you hope to be printed on the tiles I can run this by my colleague.
Kind Regards,
Mohamad Habashi
Yusuf Islam Foundation PO BOX 66318 London NW6 9PX
While not definite, it doesn't look like we will be able to have the names of the individual contributors engraved on the tile. Since we do not yet know the number of characters allowed, it might be a good idea to think of a few different options while we wait.

If you have pleadged/contributed to the tile, please let me know what your preference would be to have engraved on the tile. I do not even know if everyone wanted their name on it.
Please let me know the following:
1. If it's possible, do you want your name on the tile? 2. If names are not possible do you have other suggestions OR 3. Do you like one of the other suggestions already offered up?
Personally, I don't really care if I have my name on it, but IF it ends up being possible and that is what others want, I am fine with it.
In the end, I would be happy if it just said "Majicat" on it.
