Here it is.. The Official Release (YI.com) of the down under concert tour (Blue Moon) Australia and New Zealand.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Australian-NZ Tour Yusuf returns to the Australian Stage after 36 years and will tour New Zealand for the first time ever this June.
For a great many admirers in Australia it seemed unlikely that the artist they knew and loved as Cat Stevens would return to the stage and that his timeless songs would reach them in anything other than tribute shows. Never stop believing, as they say. Following his successful short Tour of UK and Ireland, he is decided to accept the offer made by Paul Dainty, his old promoter, to come back and tour again for his fans.
From his home in Dubai Yusuf said, I'm very excited to get back to Australia. There is a lot of history between me and my journey there. I was given some books on Rumi and Numerology in Sydney back in 74. It was all of part of my Road to Findout. I'll have the same band as my UK Tour, and Alun Davies will be with me again.
The dates are as follows:
Australia: PERTH ...Thursday 10 June @ Challenge Stadium; ADELAIDE ... Sunday 13 June @ Adelaide Entertainment Centre; MELBOURNE ... Wednesday 16 June @ Rod Laver Arena; SYDNEY ... Monday 21 June @ Sydney Entertainment Centre; BRISBANE ... Saturday 26 June @ Brisbane Entertainment Centre; New Zealand: AUCKLAND ...Tuesday 29 June @ Vector Arena; WELLINGTON ... Friday 2 July @ Westpac Arena; CHRISTCHURCH
Thanks Nancy for the articles. Sounds like a wonderful tour. How cool is it, that he is playing down under after just short of 40 years. I haven't seen anything on his New Zealand dates yet. ooooh.... I'm just a tad jealous again..
Your right Milan, the guitarist could be a G.H. double. And the other guitarist, caught my eye instantly.... a Peter Tork (Monkees) look alike! The outfits are hilarious... but then that is how we dressed back then.
This is such a great film.. I can't stop watching it.
I noticed it hasn't been posted here, at least I haven't located it yet. Take a look at this wonderful French concert from the 1960's! AMAZING!!!!!
Very well said, Katmandu. I agree that something can be said about the 4 LP's you mentioned. Maybe it is the simplicity and asperation of youth, the longing to find answers for his questions. By time Foreigner came around, I think his questions were beginning to be answered and his music didn't have that same signs of defiance and of hope as it once had. His music continued to be good even great, it just didn't have that same edge to it, as it had in Tillerman and Teaser.
What a lovely song Glaucus. I really enjoyed listening to this. The melody is beautiful and soft. Your voice as always so soothing. You have a great singing voice. Keep up the good work. I love listening to your music. Especially when sung in French
Ha Ha Ha Bud, I must have a case of sometimers aflicting me right now. You remember that condition right? I am sure you are correct in your memory of this, but I can't seem to recall it. Maybe when my sometimers disappears again, I will be able to recall it again. It's hell losing our memories isn't it?
As for the pajamas... it seems right, noting that was around the time when he wanted to compose that western musical.
Shopping (again! ) at a crafts store and got to hear Can't Keep It In. Oh! - utterly forgot to mention this - a couple of weeks back I was channel-surfing and landed on an old episode of "Good Times" entitled Thelma's Young Man. Ironically titled, since the plot concerned her budding relationship with an older man - played by Louis Gossett, Jr. But I digress... Thelma and her mom, Florida, were having a conversation while seated on the bed in Thelma's room. When they got up, this was visible among the posters on the wall: ;D -Joanne Joanne, cool episode.... I had that exact same poster as a teenager. I had two Cat Stevens posters hanging on my wall. The one you just showed here and the crickling old poster I poster on the Poster page. Believe it or not, I purchased both of them from my high school 'Senior Scholastic' magazine program.
Glaucus, I remember the website you are referring to. Wasn't the site designed after the Buddah and the Chocolate Box album cover?
There was also a little C.S. website from Norway or Sweden ran by a guy named Peter something or other. He had a lot of scandinavian articles up on his website.
Sue(Bookworm) sent this article to me via email.. very nice article on Carly. Vanity CaseSnippit: However, she is very generous and gracious about all the "philanderers" she's been involved with. She describes Cat Stevens (now Yusuf Islam), which the exquisite "Anticipation" is about, as having "great wisdom" and "his soul is really much more connected to his consciousness than most people I know, but it comes out in a gentle, ethereal, spiritual way. His wisdom goes beyond age".
I tell her a lot of her early songs feel wise like this too and she counters, "That's because I tried to imitate Cat Stevens."
someday.... I am glad to know that you Marie, and Joanne were able to see this wonderful song being sung live. Yusuf has such a jazzy sounding voice, he can sing just about anything beautifully.
Ok I know this isn't the same Roundhouse performance as discussed above. But... this is purely amazing, this is from the 2007 Roundhouse concert in tribute to Jim Capaldi
Yusuf to Play at Roundhouse Tomorrow evening Yusuf will be at the Roundhouse to participate in a special fundraising event being hosted by the Naked Heart Foundation.
Naked Heart build play parks for children in some of the most deprived cities and urban centres in Russia. To date over 39 parks have been built, and the charity is aiming to add many more across both Russia and the UK. Following a special request from the charity’s founder, Natalia Vodianova, Yusuf has agreed to perform his classic hit “Where Do The Children Play?”, a song which she has cited as a source of inspiration for her philanthropic work.
Wow, thanks Aurisma. What a nice benifit to be a part of. And the perfect song to use.. But the way Yusuf loves children, I could not see it any other way.
Yusuf wrote this on his facebook page. How beautiful.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ New Year Dawning
Peace be with you, and may all of you enjoy a blessed and happy new year. I hope this year will bring a more powerful light unto the world through belief in higher plateaus of understanding. Power can produce light, so why can’t humans direct their energies away from the grotesque darkness of war and bring about a brighter more peaceful world? Let’s try harder for this to happen, individually and collectively. Oh Sun, you know what I mean.
Yusuf
Birds flying high you know how I feel Sun in the sky you know how I feel Breeze driftin’ on by you know how I feel
It’s a new dawn, it’s a new day It’s a new life – for me And I’m feeling good

Finally, I found a glowing review of the Birmingham concert in the papers! The Glorious Return of the Catsnippet: ~~~~~ As the evening drew to a close, I looked around and saw that many in the audience were smiling with genuine affection for this man, and I realised also that I too had been smiling to myself throughout the entire concert – and if that is not a recommendation for a show, I don’t know what is.
Make no mistake. Cat is back.
