You're welcome, MoulinRouge. You're very modest, as your presentation is much, much more than you say... it is really quite nice. I hope Richina will be able to post a photo of hers, as well. There is surely an abundance of talent residing here at Majicat! -Bud

Yes, mckenzy, count me in as one who has always liked the Moody Blues... ... and, no, Richina, I don't believe for a moment that you're being selfish (and if I did, then I'd have to admit that I was being selfish, too!). One of the very first compact discs (after collecting most of Cat's, of course) that I ever purchased was "Days of Future Passed"... which is one that is very much unsur-passed! Too bad it was recorded in the days of analog, because if ever an album was tailor-made for digital technology, "Days..." surely was. But, still, be it on LP or CD, this is a superior album... a true classic. So happy to hear that you caught the band in concert, mckenzy! -Bud

Hi Folks, Several years ago I gave away my one and only VHS copy of Cat/Yusuf's 'Behind The Music' episode, and have since often searched the 'net for a lead on purchasing a copy of the show. Here are two sites that offer the program (I guess they're selling what might best be called 'semi-bootleg' copies): www.stellarproducts.biz/catstvh1bemu.htmlwww.80s4ever.com/catalog/i234.htmlI am looking for some input from my fellow-Majicatting buddies as to whether you believe it's worthwhile to purchase a copy from one of the two sources I have listed... or does anyone have any additional leads? I sure wish it had been officially released. Thanks everyone! -Bud

Hi Sue, The 'TimesOnLine' profile and interview was an extremely comprehensive one. Quite a detailed overview of Yusuf's entire life and career. I would say that, all in all, it was a positive piece. The reader's comment that you found was interesting (and encouraging), as well. Thank you so much for finding this article for us! "Yay is for Yusuf"... I rather like that! -Bud

I've something framed similar too ;D (...ignore the frogprince... ;D ) It's hanging in my bedroom... as 3 other CS-posters ;D Wow, MoulinRouge! Quite a beautiful presentation... very, very nice! Looking forward to seeing a photo of Richina's, too... -Bud

Thank you so much for giving us the original heads-up on this, SuzieQ. So far, Yusuf is not listed as appearing tonight (July 28) on the PBS outlet here (WNET) in the greater New York/New Jersey viewing area. And, as I am viewing this thread for the very first time now, I didn't take the opportunity watch Charlie last night (July 27), and so I don't know if he appeared on the program, or not. Mawa, here's hoping that he did appear on your Indiana outlet last night, and that you caught the show... Viv and mckenzy, I hope that you saw him, as well... Christine, I hope that you, too, were able to see him last evening in Ohio... and, Jane, I've got my fingers crossed that he does appear on your Minneapolis station today. Oh, heck, I hope we all get to see our man (THE man!) on Charlie R.! -Bud

Hi Folks, As you all know, passages called "Today's Birthday" or "For Those Born Today", or something similarly titled, are often included just above or below the daily newspaper horoscope readings. I found the following such passage, entitled "Today's Birthday", in my newspaper on the morning of Yusuf's special day (July 21), and I thought it so entirely accurate and appropriate: "TODAY's BIRTHDAY (July 21): You lavish attention and help on others not expecting anything in return. This spiritual generosity will fill your year with wonderful moments. You'll be loved, celebrated and appreciated in happily surprising ways. Next month finds you hard at work." Wow! Right on the mark! -Bud I go back and forth on whether or not I believe in astrology, but I must say that this is almost alarmingly accurate! I agree, Jane. I read my horoscope in the newspaper nearly every morning, but I do so mostly for the fun of it. But you are so correct... more often than not, it rings so true! -Bud

Great topic, Sue.
Among several possible choices, I guess I'll go with a favorite heartbreak song of a different sort...
"Well you’ve cracked the sky, scrapers fill the air Will you keep on building higher, ‘til there’s no more room up there? Will you make us laugh, will you make us cry? Will you tell us when to live; will you tell us when to die? I know we’ve come a long way, We’re changing day to day, But tell me, where do the children play?"
He really does seem to sing this with a broken heart.

Birthday Greetings, Dear Yusuf, It is this simple and, yet, it is profound: your music changed my life, and it changed it in ways that would have been impossible for me to imagine on that occasion many years ago when I heard for the very first time the special gifts that are your voice, your words and your music. It is your birthday, Yusuf, and yet the gifts that are received continue to flow from you to each and every one of us. Wishing you abundant peace and happiness. Thank you, Yusuf. -Bud

I would die if I got one with the special lyric sheet in it signed by "the man himself"!! But I'm still wantin' that dang poster, and a t-shirt, and a ...ah heck I want it all!!! LOL Oh well, just wait and see!! Richina And, I wish you the same, richina... ... well, no, not exactly the same... I wish you the 'dang poster' and t-shirt, etc., as well! Why not have it all? I can just hear Yusuf singing (as Cat, of course) from "Can't Keep It In": "Why NOT? Now why, why, why not?" Again, the best of luck to one and all. -Bud

The latest update on YI.com says that the 1st 50 copies will be autographed. I ordered 2 copies on 7-11-09. Hope I get lucky. Here's wishing you "Good Luck", BNM! I hope that you and anyone else from Majicat who has ordered this single directly from Yusuf's site is fortunate enough to receive one of the fifty signed copies. Considering the great care for, and loyalty to, Yusuf that you exhibit, you are ALL deserving! -Bud

Thank you for finding this for us, Richina! Looking at the drawing of that boot in the lower-left hand corner, as well as the rest of the art work on the cover, it surely looks like Yusuf's wonderfully original style. (And if Yusuf _did_ do the cover, his depiction of George W. Bush is one of the finest, and funniest, I've ever seen!) -Bud

Hi Folks, A news item as posted on yusufislam.com today (7-8-09): *Cameron Crowe Writes About Yusuf* Following Yusuf’s appearance at the recent tribute night to ‘Harold And Maude’ director Hal Ashby, the host of the evening, Cameron Crowe, has written some words about Yusuf and the evening’s events. He writes: “When the lights dimmed shortly after 7:30, there was a palpable buzz in the crowd. Many had heard that Yusuf would be here as part of the Academy of Arts and Sciences’ Tribute to Hal Ashby. Suddenly, in the darkness, there was the sound of Hal Ashby talking about his collaboration with Cat Stevens on his great film “Harold and Maude.” After about thirty seconds of Hal speaking glowingly of Cat, came the voice of an Announcer: “That was Hal talking about Cat… who became Yusuf.” A lone spotlight lit up the stage microphone, and Yusuf appeared from behind the curtain. He was given a standing ovation from the thrilled crowd. Yusuf then opened with “Don’t Be Shy,” followed by “Miles From Nowhere.” After a few words explaining that he hadn’t played the next song in many years, Yusuf began playing “Trouble.” There was an audible gasp from the crowd. Cheers were heard all around me. The song, such an indelible part of one of the greatest collaborations between artist and film, is lodged in the heart of Yusuf and “Harold and Maude” fans everywhere. His version on this night was spare, emotional and soul-stirring in his power. Another standing ovation, and the evening had begun on this magical note. After some remarks from Academy President Sid Ganis, co-host and Variety publisher Peter Bart, and yours truly, the world’s most nervous (but proud) speaker… a panel of friends and admirers were then introduced. All had been enthusiastic participants from the first invitation to be a part of the evening… Judd Apatow, Diablo Cody, Seth Rogen, Jon Voight, Haskell Wexler and Yusuf himself. For the next thirty-five minutes, Yusuf exchanged anecdotes with the panel and shared his deep appreciation for the work of Hal Ashby and the film we’d all come to see, “Harold and Maude.” The film screened to a wildly enthusiastic reception. For many, it was the first time seeing the film on a big screen. The effect was beyond powerful, and the fact that we were sharing it with Yusuf made the experience even more memorable. Afterwards, there was a surprise appearance by the film’s reclusive star, Bud Cort, who thanked the crowd and gave a fifteen minute monologue about his journey in getting the part, and living with the film’s lasting impact. He also hailed Yusuf as the film’s “fourth main character” after Harold, Maude (Ruth Gordon) and Harold’s comicly domineering mother (Vivian Pickles). Afterwards Cort and Yusuf posed for a photo that says everything – memories were shared, friendships renewed, and with Yusuf’s graceful and generous appearance, all left having witnessed and felt the rarest of events. “Harold and Maude” had come to life again, on the wings of passion and true art… and the songs of Yusuf. Thank you to Yusuf, David Spero, Barry Krost, Brian Loucks and to Yoriyos for your contributions to making it a night of nights.” _____________________________________________________________________________________________ Cool! And continued thanks to Sue for providing the link to those great photos of the event. -Bud

Hi Folks. I received the vinyl edition yesterday and I completely agree with richina's description of it: it truly is one gorgeous production! I ordered mine over the 'net from 'Barnes&Noble' (U.S.) and it arrived in only four days. The price was $24.99 (U.S.) plus shipping & handling (and, in my case, 7% New Jersey state sales tax). Here is the link to the vinyl LP via B&N: music.barnesandnoble.com/Roadsinger/Yusuf-Cat-Stevens/e/602527042657/?itm=1It's really well worthwhile to have in your collection! -Bud

*Ringo is 69?... boy, do _I_ feel old! Uh, yeah, feeling a bit old now. Yikes!!! No need for you to feel that way, Jane! However, when one gets to be _my_ age... (These days, being on the north side of 50, I consider myself to be a bit of an antiquity!)* -Bud *Please let me be clear that I only consider _myself_ to be an antique, not anyone else who may be older than 2 score and 10.

I believe that Lucy13 might be correct about this 'Ringo wipe off' being a case of "... Sink in the Can stuff". The question I have is: considering that Cat and Ringo worked so thoroughly on the song "Blue Monday" during the studio recording session, wouldn't that be Ringo playing on the completed cut on Cat's box set? Maybe not, though, as you would think Ringo's participation would have been noted in the box set's booklet. I am so confused... which is not a terribly unusual state of mind for me... (see my preceding post). -Bud
