Sun. You are correct lets not forget that Cat Stevens and Yusuf Islam is the same person. He may have changed his name and his believes but soul and body are the same.
People like myself who were Cat Stevens fans from the 60's are now Yusuf fans. Westerners or Yusuf fans would probably have not listend to Yusuf Islam's music if he was not Cat Stevens.
Yoriyos, funny enough when I first came across him I really did not know that he was Yusuf's son, I thought he was Greek I only found our when I joined majicat. Yoriyos must have been quite surprised how many fans that his father still has. I don't think that Yusuf has to face any kind of challenges in music because his fans speaking from experience will buy everything he releases. Yoriyos is a hamsome and talented young man and should make it as an artist. Sure enough he was brought up as a muslim, its good that he does not try and pass his personal believes on others.
Yoriyos should ask or let his father help him, maybe sing on stage together. I am a strong believer that in this life I's who you know more than what you know.

To quote him -- "My name is Greek. though i spell it my own way. Yoriyos or Yorgos means - Earth worker, farmer"-- I have listen to Yoriyos "Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee" so many times I have lost count... it has the same magical quality of drawing one out to seek for deeper truth that some of my favorite Cat Steven's songs do... but to me they have an entirely different musical feel... God has twice blessed us with these related musical poets ... and I am truly grateful for the hopeful inspiration that they have and continue to bring to the world... I totaly agree with Lil. Yoriyos wont to reach the whole world every humanbeen with his message that is why he don't mention he is a Moslim. But he is sure proud of that only this is'ent relevant here .If he wont to reach the world with his songs to make this a better place then he must be neutral. He is having a good relationship with his parents ,they brought him up with love and a open mind to do good . He said he could not sing father and son with his dad because they are to good with eachother. He will do it his own way with his own words ,different as his father but in the same spirit. And i hope with all my heart he can do his thing the way he believes in .that's why i love the song much IF ALL ELSE FAILS. Peace Regine

I wonder why you hesitated? ~Sun~ I knew that he doesn't want to be related to his father, and to make it by his own talent as you said in a previous post!! Thank you for explaining. I could think of several reasons why one might hesitate to post a link to a video, and I thought it wise to ask rather than make assumptions. I must say that I think Yoriyos is proud to be related to his father, but also recognizes that he has to stand on his own two feet in this world. ~Sun~

I really like your post, Lady Helen (and also Lil's and Regine's!). I had the same thought - that Yoriyos should work with his father - they would make an awesome duo! Maybe one day . . . I agree that fans will buy anything that Yusuf releases, but I also believe that he must pursue excellence anyway. I want him to prove that he's still a great artist, both to himself and to all his critics. Finally, I just had a thought about how this whole thing works two ways. For example, it could also be said that "Yusuf" opened a door to "Cat Stevens," because there are Muslims who were Yusuf fans, learned from Yusuf about Cat, and then became Cat fans! Thus, this Yusuf quote, “Music has changed, but today I am in a unique position as a looking glass through which Muslims can see the west and the west can see Islam. It is important for me to be able to help bridge the cultural gaps others are sometimes frightened to cross.” He is truly a bridge . . . ~Sun~

Well one stamp of success is people talking about you on a message board. So Yoriyos has already made it to the big time. I wish I could listen to his music on my computer because if his music is retro sounding like his physical style, I will like it. I do think he should just be himself and not worry about having a famous father. That might get him noticed initially but unless he is talented in his own right it will not carry him all the way. So it is really on his shoulders anway. If anything being honest about his musical legacy will make him a more authentic and interesting artist. Well not that he isn't already I'm sure. Maybe I just don't like the one name artist thing, always seemed way pretentious. Don't you have to grow into that status anyway?

I just ordered the CD. A bit expensive, since it's an import, but I wanted to have it. Can't wait to listen. I listened to the sample on his website, and I thought it was quite good.

I can easily think of Madonna, Beyonce, Prince . . . Can anyone think of any more? Oh no, I didn't mention Yusuf!!! ~Sun~ Edited to add Yusuf.

Just hope that he has much antidote to resist to thsoe musical and "artistic" waves , highly commercial, fake and shallow produced by most eastern or western "artists". Recently, a friend speaks to me about that, i totaly agree that there is a need of artists, whatever their religion, which educate our artistic taste and also try to contribute to a better life for everybody (who can make that except artists ??). I also hope to see him with his father on a stage, maybe one day! even he doesn't say he is muslim, there are some marks on his myspace account, "the Book" as a favourite books and the use of hijri year (muslim calendar )when he speaks about his birtheday. ahlin

Cher, Meatloaf, Sting, Bono... You guys fail to mention my favorite artist (ok maybe tied with Cat), but with a one word name: Jewel. Amazing song writing, and in person an amazing voice. Of course, at least it is her real name.

Here is Yoriyos and Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee at Beloved Musika. A quote: BURY MY HEART AT WOUNDED KNEE YORIYOS
The debut album of singer/songwriter Yoriyos. The album is an 11 track collection with breathtaking songs such as ‘Nomads Dream’, and ‘Run Dry’, a theme which looks back at the 60’s and talks of unfulfilled dreams. In a world where protest in song seems to now be a thing of the past Yoriyos’s beautiful melodies combined with heartfelt lyrics prick the conscious of all that hear. The album is exclusively distributed by Beloved Musika in the Middle East only. www.myspace.com/yoriyosmusic www.yoriyos.com ~Sun~

Yoriyos has a couple of new acoustic song versions on his myspace page. If you listen carefully to the song "If All Else Fails" when he hits low notes, does his voice sound like anyone we all know and love?

He goes even lower in "Love at the Gates of Dawn," and his voice does remind me of Cat/Yusuf's. And yet, Yoriyos is his own person, with his own style. May God bless Yoriyos and all of our kids on their lives' journeys . . . ~Sun~ www.myspace.com/yoriyosmusic

Yes, Sun...he definitely has his own style, etc., but sometimes it's spooky how a child can inherit certain stuff like voices. People often think my daughter is me on the phone and my other daughter sometimes sounds like my mother-in-law !!! YIKES. LOL

don't know if this has been posted yet but ....Cat's 'Father and Son' song would be a great duet for them to remake!!! It's sort of a 'full circle' kind of song.

Genia I thought the same as well Genia, but I spoke to Yoriyos after the DVD premier of the Cafe Session and asked him if he would ever consider doing a duet of Father and Son with his dad. He said no it would never happen as he gets on so well with his dad. Makes sense when you listen to the words!

I love Yoriyos his voice it's different from Yusuf's voice. But it was also the voice that attract me when i first heard him just the same when i heard Cat(lady D'Arbanville) for the first time. It's always the voice that takes attention the first time i hear a song . He is different (Yoriyos) but he is above on my list ,voice and words.Regine
