Thanks Odeon!! Love the pink pants on Wild World! Unfortunately, the French didn't have a clue how to make good TV shots back then.

What brilliant featured clips, Odeon, and I just played the beautiful songs the inspired our generations. His voice was so pure and welcoming in the early sixties. I really did like the live version of I Love My Dog and Wild World. I also watched the interview of Buddha and the Chocolate Box, which was the time when he studied his interest in Buddhism and many other different religious topics.

Great video! It's fun to see the the green thread in his life - his favorite color - green mixing console green shoes green lining in his jacket cuffs when in Ireland green seat cover while he's snoozing on the train I'm sure the list could go on . . .

To me he looks really uncomfortable with the miming in this video. I can feel his embarrassment...

Well, I'll be d--ned! You're right! I stopped looking at his GREEN shoes and paid attention to the music (duh) - it is lip-synched. Why would he do that so late in his career? I mean at this point - 1976- he was very much in control of his music. Odd.

The first clue should be the fact that this recording sounds PRECISELY like the one on the record. I should know; I've listened to it umptyzillion times. And the other two times I've heard it live, he has 1.) performed it WAY too fast, or 2.) started to sing the 3rd verse instead of the 2nd and quickly corrected himself. Which makes me think - he sure messes up a lot, doesn't he? Back then one could ascribe it to "oxeeegin" or something else. Now, I guess we can forgive him for being 63 and a bit rusty. But I suspect anxiety might play a part, too, don't you?

This disco 76 programe was the type where everyone lip-synched. I am sure they could not even have accommodated a live performance. I suppose that's why even the presenter was absolutely amazed they had got the Cat to come on!

To me he looks really uncomfortable with the miming in this video. I can feel his embarrassment... I agree - definitely lip-synched. Guess he was following orders in those days. Nowadays, he's his own boss and he's willing to risk making a mistake in public - so refreshingly brave and honest. Love it. Very Good Source is that he is not lypsynching and Jean is not pretending to play piano .. also shows that the rest of the band comes in after that to play the next song! xx peace xx
Def not lipsynching

glassworld and Affy The interview above was from his first tour in Australia in 1972, after a long flight from the States, and he was almost crushed in the mob that was waiting to see him. He seems tired and pretty intense in this interview. For a much more relaxed Cat, check out this interview from his second tour of Australia in 1974 if you haven't seen it already. He had a gig in Hawaii and some time to relax there before coming to Australia. He's much more laid-back here. I don't think it is just the beer! I actually like both interviews because it shows two very different sides of him, and his answers are very interesting in both. The Majicat webpage below has pics from BOTH Australian tours although it says they are all from his first tour. www.majicat.com/photos/ozpix.htm

If you think that Morning has Broken has been lipsynched one must back it up and show me the exact point where he loses the beat and words ..other than that it is not lipsynched lol if one cant point out the faux pas .. peace xoxo

It's not the question of catching his lips moving out of sync at all; he's miming really well, in fact the whole band does. But can't you hear it's the album studio recording in question? I'm typing from the work at the moment and have no speakers, but remembering 'ad hoc', the clue should be the orchestration part in "Morning has broken" and female backing vocals in "Banapple Gas", none of which can be seen here, of course. They're miming to two studio recordings, that's all.

Definitely lip synched on both "Morning Has Broken" and "Banapple Gas". In the second song, there are electric guitar and keyboard riffs, and onstage only Alun (playing acoustic) and Jean (grand piano).
