Did you notice on the picture Sloppy posted from the M.O.L. site, how much shorter and how well kept Yusufs beard looks? Also his hair is a bit longer as well?
It's a beautiful picture of Yusuf.

whoops, I just realized that I wrote Buddha from the Catch Bull LP, when it is suppose to read the ZEN drawing from the Catch Bull LP.
I guess it doesn't matter, since 2 people still voted for it.

I still think he is talking retorically. He was known for doing just this in many of his songs... Lady D, Into White, Lilywhite, Just Another Night to name a few.
To me, it seems to be more about a relationship that has died, rather than a person whose died. But then, everyone can look at each of Cats songs in a different manner/view. It's sort of like looking at an abstract painting, everyone sees something different. That is what makes Cats songs so interesting.

Hello everyone! I haven't heard that song... Is it posted somewhere here on Majicat? Salaams, Susan Susan, I don't have it on real audio, but here are the lyrics to the song. It's on Cats 1st LP Mathew & Son Hummingbird
There's a yellow flower by your bed Sadly droopin' it's perfumed head So you won't smell it, I know what you'll miss
And there's a hummingbird, a hummingbird, A hummingbird, a hummingbird, Oh there's a hummingbird singing.
There is the hat you made, the clothes you wore Lying down on the cold, dirty floor. The colors are fading, they'll never shine again.
And there's a hummingbird, a hummingbird, A hummingbird, a hummingbird, Oh there's a hummingbird singing.
Now the road is turning gray, There's a shadow where you once lay. They'll find it tomorrow, and think you went alone.
But there's a hummingbird, a hummingbird, A hummingbird, a hummingbird, Ah there's a hummingbird crying.

Vivian , I have two accounts of Sad Lisa. Once I heard, the song is about his mother, the other he is talking about himself.
As for Hummingbird, I have no idea who she may have been or if she even existed. But my take on the song is just perhaps he felt like the hummingbird, he was there lovingly watching over his mother after his parents divorce?

Thats true boot, but it seems he did the same thing with "Sad Lisa" and " Miles from Nowhere"
Sad Lisa is a girl *person* desperately seeking some sort guidence/help from lonliness and depression, and 'Miles from Nowhere' is about a person, who seems to be able to seek and ultimately achieve his dreams and goals through his own power of positive thinking. I wonder if he subconscously placed these songs this way, or if he placed them back to back on purpose?

This is a wonderful song, but Cat isn't real expicit as to his meaning in this song. Could he be talking about a girl who has fallen ill and sadly dies, or could it be more along the line of a suicide? Hmmmmm.... Or is it perhaps something I have over looked?
What is your take on this song?
And is it just me, or does Hummingbird and Sad Lisa have a similar feel to them?

The link is just a convenience. Most of us know how to get to all the sites. And new comers will find them through a search engine anyway. I really do appreciate all of your support. But, I have agree the link is not a big deal. Majicat was around for about 2 years before there even was a link on cs.com to majicat, it has just made it quite easy over the last year or two. I'm not upset about the lost link, so please don't you be. But I do wish to express that my hope is that people will just continue to visit, suppport and appreciate all the sites, M.O.L., Majicat, Cs.com, Harry's German site, Aisha's - Peacetrainn, the UK site and any other site that may pop up.

Katmandu, I voted for Classic 25 Years of A&M. I definately think it is my favorite of compilation CD's. Probably because it doesn't have all the usual songs on it that were on his previous Greatest Hits type CD's/Lp's.

I don't think he took lessons. I read once that he taught himself to play after getting his first guitar at the age of 15. I also read once that others had offered to teach him to play better. But he never took them up on it, that he liked and enjoyed the way he played.

Welcome to the site Joanne, it's nice to have you aboard. :-) I hope you really enjoy the Majikat DVD. It's a great concert!
Father and Son is a wonderful song, isn't it. Amazing how it is speaking to the younger generations now, as it spoke to us in the 70's.

I don't own the CD set, but the little clip of Cat singing is quite nice. Not sure if you are aware of the origin of this particular performance which they show on this commercial. It is from his April 1976 performance on a German TV program called Disco, which from my understanding was similar to the US version of American Bandstand.

I saw a picture of Barry Gibb taken on the dance floor in Studio 54 back in the 70's, which ran in the People magazine. In the background is a darhaired bearded man. I could have been cat, but then again it is more likely that it was Steven Bishop. drool

I have long thought that Penny Valentine has to have been one of the better Music Journalist of the 1970's. And she always wrote such wonderful interviews of Cat. I don't know if it was because they seem to have grown up in the same area of London or what? But her articles always seem to touch Cats inner spirit in a way that not many other writers seem to have touched. And she seemed to have genuinely liked Cat as a friend or a person.
What I would like to know is: is Penny Valentine still writing music articles for magazines in the UK, or has she retired?

Welcome back Vivian, we were all thinking of you and wondering what was happening. Even though you didn't meet him, it sounds like he was thinking of you , and that very sweet of him to leave you a signed CD.
No matter what, I am glad to hear you had a wonderful vatcation. You'll have to tell us all about it sometime.. Did you do a moonshadow tour of the Cat sights? giggle

Perhaps Ruins would fall in this category. Oh and also Last Love song to a degree... he sounds a bit bitter,
" did you think you could just put me down like a worn out shoe cause if you don't want me maybe i don't want you "

But thinking more on this... I am in aggreement with Jen & George with 'Can't Keep it In' with it's upbeat tune, plus the surmize of being a romantic song. It was more in the line of what Radio stations were playing. One of those happy go lucky type of songs that has the listener singing along with it.

Really George? I never realized that Tuesday's Dead was a single in the UK. Though I did hear he used Father and Son as a single in the UK but it never went any where. Which is a shame. I guess it was because people were more into love songs at that time.
Another song, which is one of my favorite and I can't see how it wouldn't have been a smash hit was " Child for a Day" I know it was written by David and not Cat, but it is such a beauty. And so heart felt and personally I feel it is as powerful today as it was in 1977.

I personally think "How Can I Tell You" would have made # 1 status.
Also "Tuesday Dead" with it's catchy tune and lyrics may have been another posibility.

No No No it is not a new Carpenters song. Since it is such a wet, drizzly day out, I thought I would ask what would be your favorite rainy day Cat song? Would you rather a pick me up song like 'Supa Dupa Life' or something sad like 'Sad Lisa'?
