I like the idea of the mock-up with the Cat Stevens face and dove for the same reasons as Richina, Andrea, and Gabi - basically, that it represents the spirit of Cat, Yusuf, Majicat, and the Maqam Centre, and seems like a wonderful, all-around compromise. While I do like the idea, I don't really like the way the logo looks because the face and the dove are very different in style - one is solid shadows and the other is thin lines - and I find the combination to be visually jarring. I don't think the two images fit well together. I also agree with Andrea and Christina that it looks as if Cat has a hair clip. And the curl of his hair just under the dove looks to me like a weird, out-of-place ear sticking out. (I'm sorry - I'm trying to be honest.) M. told us that her mock-up was just a trial, so I sincerely thank her for all her effort, and I'm not criticizing, but the edges of the dove are blurred, and I doubt that this logo can be engraved as is; I myself don't have the skills to make it better. So, if we were to use this idea, we'd need to find someone with the time and skills to remake the logo in a professional way. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- I like the idea of the initials because I can understand contributors feeling good about seeing their initials on something they contributed to. But, I think that no one but us 11 contributors will understand what the initials mean, and to the Maqam Centre visitors, they might look like some kind of code that no one can decipher. I guess they could generate some interesting mystery, though. Also, we already voted on the initials, and they didn’t win first or even second place, so it doesn’t seem wise to vote on them again. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- I like all of the remaining choices, and I think the second and third are an improvement over the first one (which was the overall winner of the first vote) because they both define majicat more clearly than the first one does:

I like the face/dove with "Friends of Majicat"
maybe the dove can be placed differently....over or under the text?
I have to agree that the initials would be difficult to understand, even though I always liked the idea of our personal names on the tile. I think simpler is better.

I think everyone knows intials rc~cc~sc~tl~lv~bn~gn~pk~mp I think it will be understood especially with Friends of Majicat above it .. and it really is the sentiment behind donating too.. ..there will be quite alot of tiles in arabic there that no one will understand but yet one knows it for the love and understanding of Islam. , I think that is the point too. and initals can be like a candle lit figuratively speaking. angels maybe dove could have intiials on the branch or at the base of the tile with the date on it perhaps very small . Thanks Peace~

Wow, Monika, Thank you for all your time and effort on this. It was really generous of you. I'm so glad you did these mock-ups, and I must say, they look very nice. Oh, and thank you for mentioning that a bit of blurriness probably doesn’t matter to the engraver. A good part of our challenge at this time is that we really don’t know what the engraver is expecting from us. And as far as the engraver - when the dove and face don’t overlap, I wonder if they’d be considered as two separate logos, and if that would be allowed? We’re all waiting with Jane to hear about the engraving parameters from the Maqam Centre. Hopefully, that information will help us to narrow down the last six mock-ups so we can have our final vote. In the meantime, I think there’s plenty of food for thought, and so I’ll take a rest and leave you guys to figure out which version of the Cat/dove mock-up you like best. Thanks again, Monika. It’s really wonderful and uplifting to hear from you with all these wonderful mock-ups. Peace, ~Sun~ P.S. I tried to "Extract" the dove in Photoshop, and I tried "Smart Cutout" in Photobucket, but without success. If you don’t mind, Monika, would you please tell me how to "cut out" an image like the dove? I’d greatly appreciate knowing how. Thanks.

I'm finally chiming in - I've been sick the last couple of days and before that was sick of what was going on here on this board. I'm still not sure what that was all about.
I love the combination of the face and the dove. While I'm not sure the earlier mock-ups looked like he was wearing a hair clip (but I know what you mean), I do really like these done by Monika, with the dove above/below the text.
I know we want to hear from everyone, and I know that Regii is away this week, so we won't hear from her until she returns (not sure of the exact day.)

We must call it what it is and that is the naked truth .Now we must satisfy the 4 of the 11 that didnt win with their logo by putting both logos on tile ,and now a 2nd line on tile . With all due respect , I dont think it is fair . as a contributor it means something to me like it does to you to have your logo with the winning logo , to have my initials on the tile if one doesnt choose to have theirs on it , then they dont have to , but since you are throwing away the vote , adding a 2nd line, I want my initials on the tile as well as your logos and lines, so I hope we can find a way to appease us all - both logos , and initials for those who want them. Now, I feel the caring and respect has vanished for what it means to each one of us - that has to be respected . thanks xo Peace

Richina was posting her thoughts, a few of us agreed with her, and you seemed to have a problem with that. It was not about "reneging the winning vote." As I read back on the various posts after the vote, I don't see any that asked for another vote. I see some that expressed a point of view and others agreeing with those points of view, but none that asked for another vote. I never once said I wanted another vote, but I did say that I agreed with the point Richina brought up after the vote. That's quite different than asking for another vote. Even though I would have preferred something else, I was happy with the first results, but that never meant that I didn't want to hear what people had to say. People have a right to speak up and I will always defend that. Sun has been taking the lead with the selection process, and even she said that first vote was not intended to be a final vote. It wasn't intended to be the final vote and it wasn't the final vote. I don't see how that is unfair.

hey whatta ya mean "it's gettin a little embarrassing..."? Sorry Richina - embarrassing in that I was agreeing with you so frequently I was beginning to feel incapable of an original thought of my own. Not that there's anything wrong with your thoughts - I quite like your thoughts actually. Sometimes I feel like they're mine! ;D Are you sorry you asked now? I'm getting a little worn out with all the back and forth. I'm beginning to like everything at this point I do like the dove on the bottom too...

@jane Yes thats what it was .... after the vote all the suggestions started chiming in ... and that some really didnt feel that the dove was what majicat was about "after the vote" (the few that didnt vote for the dove ) I just felt ... whattt if it wasnt a final vote, what were we voting for lol it was a final vote, ( that is what a vote is) ... Sun said the winner was The Dove and so forth .. and said thank you to everyone for voting and la la la and then all the questioning and suggestions started again ....well here we are we have all the logos added now accommodating everyone why cant I be accommodated as a contributor too - just like Cats face is important to the few that didnt win in the vote so are my initials ..I really dont want to make so much out of it but I would like it for my reasons .. xxoo .. perhaps the 2nd line can be for the contributors personally (initials) or on olive branch or at bottom of the tile very small . if we leave it to the engraver I'm sure he will know how to put them underneath the first line, on the branch and very small too or maybe on the bottom edge of tile (as 2nd line ) very tiny where the contributor would know . x plus there really isnt a mock up of the real initals only a -s ok .. glad you are feeling better. Thanks Jane .. Have a beautiful Weds. xoxo Peace xoxo

Hi, Jane, I'm sorry to hear you were sick, and I hope you're feeling better. Thanks for the info on Regii. I was wondering where she's been. She didn't miss anything, really, since we're waiting for word from the Maqam Centre so we know which mock-ups meet all their requirements. Thanks again for your idea to adopt a tile, for communicating with the Maqam Centre, and for handling the transaction. We couldn't do it without you. Peace, ~Sun~

I know that everyones ideas can be in place on the tile for the Glory of God and I'm going to keep that in my heart and hopefully we all can . I realized that this couldnt possibly be a vote when 11 contributors can have what they want on there knowing that there is room for it 2 lines and 2logo if there is a need for "est 1999" perhaps the 2nd line could be at the very bottom like left corner in small text, and I can place my initial there as well, and anyone else that feels their heart calling for that in the center can, and I think going forward that is how we should also look at it that the contributors hearts are involved as well in this tile ...it is a spiritual center .. and aesthetically it should have what each contributor wants, we all should be happy or the first vote would have stood.. right I think that we all need to get on that to understand and bridge gaps. I'm so glad to be a part of it . Have a blessed weekend xo C

If you don’t mind, Monika, would you please tell me how to "cut out" an image like the dove? I’d greatly appreciate knowing how. Thanks. I would like to give a very big thank you to Monika, who sent me a slideshow of screenshots from photoshop, showing me, step-by-step, how to cutout an image. Thanks to her, I managed to make a copy of Monika's logo design, just for fun. This is my copy of her design, and I'm posting it just to say thank you: Again, the credit for the face/dove combination goes to Monika, and I made this copy just for fun, so no need to comment on it. It's here only because I'd like to show everyone how helpful Monika has been. It's so nice of Monika to help out on this thread, and so generous of her to show me how to do the cutout. Thank you, Monika. Peace, ~Sun~

I checked in with Mr. Habashi since I hadn't heard from him after I sent our latst mock-up to him. This was his response:
"I know you are still awaiting confirmation on your tile design. Your new design looks great.
We will be putting all the details/specifics for the tile design along with mock ups on the Maqam website very soon. Once this is up I will let you know."
It seems that will tell us how many lines, characters per line, etc will be allowed. I'll let you know when I hear from him. If someone sees it on the Maqam Centre website before then, please let us know.
