Have been to the Centre recently , still a shell...spoke to several local residents (who were unfortunately not supporting the Maqam ???but there must be many others that do..this just must happen soon!)......been looking at the Brent Council site to see what the latest news is....seems that a decision on the latest planning application should be imminent ?.......~Information for Planning Application 10/3199 Application Type: Full Planning Permission Location: Tiverton Youth & Community Centre, Wrentham Avenue, London, NW10 3HN Proposal: Erection of single storey glazed extension to the Wrentham Avenue frontage, external seating area, frameless glazed balustrading on roof of the extension fronting Tiverton Road, inclusion of a swimming pool within the building (in place of the originally approved hall area) and other alterations, including provision of a green wall at ground floor level fronting Wrentham Avenue. Comment on this planning application Received Date: 14/ 02/ 2011 Status: Registered Decision: This case will be decided no earlier than 10/ 08/ 2011 ~ .. the Public Consultation Period ended 10th August ~Key dates for Planning Application 10/3199 Registration date: 14/ 02/ 2011 Validation date: 14/ 02/ 2011 Public Consultation period: 14/ 02/ 2011 - 10/ 08/ 2011 Advertisement / Site Notice date: Site Inspection date: Committee date: Earliest decision date: 10/ 08/ 2011 Final decision date: Decision dispatched date: ~ The planning Committee will be meeting soon .....~Meetings 28 Sep 2011 7.00 pm 6 Sep 2011 7.00 pm 2 Aug 2011 7.00 pm - Agenda, Decisions~ cross fingers!

:)Yes Regii...I agree wholeheartedly.... Once the bridges are built it takes quite a lot of effort to keep all kinds of peoples crossing and moving from one end to the other....that then will be the next challenge...in my experience this bit is challenging but fun!...but always the need is there to keep watchful so that those bridges stay open to all............there seems to be a great team at the Maqam.....exciting times ahead!! Praise God.....

:)Although this is not new it tells of Yusuf being impressed by the work at this Community Centre.....I am sure that the one I am involved in and many others have some great things going on that are equally as impressive...all for the good..and interfaith dialogue will lead to eventual understanding ,acceptance ,and Peace.... Base level ; just by being a place that many local organisations can use encourages contact between those otherwise unknown to each other.. Yusuf is so well placed to gather and experience all good practice at this level too....just ordinary people doing their bit......nice that Yusuf continues to be a 'conduit'.Hopefully its not painful!! Too often local initiatives are not given 'airspace'...I think that Yusuf is an awesome ambassador not just between East and West but between scholars and non-academics....those 'famous' and less so.....Yusuf evens out the field and reminds that we are all just simply human...brothers and sisters...all equal.....with different responsibilities and strengths.... www.ama-online.org.uk/newsletters/pdf/AMA_NL_0110.pdf

So hopefully that impressive looking shell will be soon buzzing....maybe a 'posh 'exhibition upstairs.......but a Mums and Tots group in another space under the same roof?............sounds inclusive and cool.....

THIS JUST IN SEPTEMBER 29, 2011
Yusuf Islam Foundation We are delighted to announce that last night Brent’s planning committee gave unanimous approval to the revised Maqam Centre scheme that includes a swimming pool, health spa, café, crèche, and more. The scheme is promoted by the Yusuf Islam Foundation. The Maqam Centre promises to be an exciting addition to London's multicultural landscape, serving as an exhibition, arts and well-being space. :)from Yusuf's site...Yusuf says''I truly believe that a proper understanding of Islam and the universal values that link it to all the divine branches of faiths and peoples is vital to helping achieve a healthier and more spiritually tolerant world, allowing us all to share and strengthen the things we all hold in common. To this end, the Maqam Centre in London, which is being promoted by a charitable Foundation in my name, will soon become a focal point for promoting peace and understanding and the work of bridge building that I have been carrying out for many years. It is a unique initiative, taking a holistic approach to education, health, and spirituality. The Centre takes its name from the Station (Maqam) of Abraham, where pilgrims pray during the Hajj.'' ..how wonderful.... :)talking of Interfaith...just on the offchance please...if anyone is free to join us for our interfaith concert 'Rhythms of the Heart.'.organised from our centre for Interfaith Week you all more than welcome...oh and if by any chance you happen to be musical a guitar can always be found....sorry.what? 20 hour flight? oh OK ..let you off then.. . Peace.. so excited about the Maqam....prayers for continuing progress..x (couldnt download our poster..too big...Nov 19th 2 pm Wellingborough..if you live nearby do come..pm me for more details...)

...guess you get commission, do you? ;D Not me - I returned all of it. what happened to the large contributor who met the missing amount for the tile may I ask ?? .. I know of someone who sent their money for their tile that they bought for Maqam Centre and the Centre took their money and what they wanted on the tile ?? Are we not doing it Jane I know you returned the money and didnt want to hold on to it but I thought all we had to do was to agree on a tile and send it off with the request ?
peace

I too am passionate about the Maqam...like Glassworld...thats why I put it at the top from time to time....its an ongoing thing...so plenty of time to help it along... ....as far as I know to date there has been no problem with the tile I sponsored.....and anyway I dont mind really so long as the contribution is used for this great idea of furthering understandings............guess most of us feel like that........ Hopefuly though you guys will eventually be able to sponsor the tile you all worked hard to organise...it was nice.... ..but Sun seems not to be here anymore...I wish her all Gods blessings.....

peace We still had no information on the requirements and parameters of the tile. We did not know how many lines, font, image - we really didn't know anything about what was going to be allowed on the tile. Given that, we were not even close to just agreeing on what we wanted.
