As the days are approaching, strange no mention of the proposed date of arrival anywhere? I was just thinking, it's the 6th of June today, in 4 days Yusufs first concert is on the 10th in Perth. Normally wouldn't Yusuf and company need a few days to get over jet lag before the concerts. Soooo, this could mean Yusuf and company may be in flight over the Indian Ocean, or maybe the plane is just about to land Downunder. If Yusufs family is accompanying him, an early arrival date, will give them a few days to settle in , and maybe some sightseeing. It seems people are not concerned when Yusufs plane will be landing, but that's understandable. Yusufs audience now will be a more mature one, not like yesterday, when many young teenagers, like myself, whose heart was beating (pounding) ;D, were counting the days he would arrive. It was a very different story then. I remember waaay back in Melbourne 1972, the week prior to his first concert in Australia, it was like countdown. The whole country was like in standby mode, waiting for the arrival of CS. Not even when the Queen was going to visit Australia was there such anticipation. ;D I guess you have all read CS's reception on his arrival in Australia, was compared to the arrival of the Beatles, so you can imagine the impact CS had on Australia. Anyway, tonight I was going down memory lane, and I just wanted to open this thread with the hope that soon, we will have some news to follow on Yusufs arrival. Yusuf and company, wishing you a safe and soft landing. Yusuf, don't worry, this time there won't be any young crazed teenagers waiting at the airport, or screamimg and chasing you in your car. ;D Australia silently awaits you with warm, open arms.

I have a hunch that Yusuf is so used to traveling that jet lag doesn't affect him. After all, he's a "Cat", and Cats get by on Cat Naps!
Peace,Vivian

Peace,Vivian Oh yes Vivian, you maybe right, I forgot he was a Cat, but I don't know about the rest of the crew if they can get by on 'Cat Naps'. ;D Also there are rehearsals to be done, and Yusuf being the perfectionist he is, will want to double check that everything is up to his standard. I remember back then, he would spend quite a few hours rehearsing before a concert. I know it really doesn't matter when he arrives as long as they all arrive safe and well, and there will be many experts helping him. I guess I'm just reminiscing the past, and even though I'm not in Australia now, the waiting is making me a little impatient, eager, maybe a little nervously excited for the show to begin. ;D

Very exciting stuff. This is really the first big tour since he has made his comeback - being that the last one was in his own backyard so to speak. It will be interesting to see if it invigorates or exhausts him. Maybe a little of both! He seems to be full of life and energy - and with all that love directed at him, how could he not be energized? I cannot wait to read all about it. So nice he will be surrounded by his loved ones at all times. That will make the big difference these many years later. Anyway - I hope it goes smashingly ;D Be kind to Yusuf Australia - I know you will be!!

Considering how quickly these shows sold out, I would say that his fans will give him a hearty reception. Those of us lucky enough to see any of his UK shows in December saw how the audience's response just thrilled him, and I think that is what made him become "Cat" again for those couple of hours.
I am eagerly and enviously awaiting reports from downunder.

Hate to tell y'all....if I was there, and knew where he was landing and about what time.....I'd be waiting! Maybe set up a little tent in the parking lot!? Quietly waiting...uh, not me! Don't know if I would squeal at the sight of him (little too old maybe) but I'm sure there would be some totally incomprehensible sounds coming from me if I got close enough to get an autograph! Hee-hee Downunder, if Jane and I were there, the 3 of us just might have to do a little (s)talking around the airport!* How fun! *this is not a threat...I promise ;D

Two concerts in Melbourne , and now this, a speech by Yusuf. OMG what have I missed!!! It seems Yusuf is going to be full of surprises. Well, I only have myself to blame. Anyway I should be thankfull for the SBE concert last May, so I'll keep positive, and hope that there will be another concert in London in the near future. Barney, I guess we can count on you from here on for all the latest news. THANKYOU!!!! What an exciting month it's going to be for all!!!! Rechina, I don't think I would need alot of arm twisting to join you both!!! ;D Count me in for next time. ;D

So glad you started this thread, Vicki. It makes this tour feel real, and really adds to the excitement. I suppose like most who won't be going to these concerts, I've had the sad feeling that I've missed the boat, and I'm standing at the dock, watching the ship (plane?) sail away.
But then I remember that with majicat and the internet, we'll all be connected and it will be a wonderful time for everyone.
This thread reminded me of that yet again. Thank you!

Vicki, you're welcome in my tent anytime!! As a matter of fact, anyone who wants to do a little "virtual Cat spotting" during his Aussie tour is welcome to join the fray! We'll pretend like we're a bunch of crazy teenagers sneaking around the Melbourne airport waiting for "the man" to arrive!! Boy, if we found him, there'd be some serious.....uh, "hand shaking" goin' on! Phooey, no smoochies, that ain't no fun! Oh well, unless somebody wants to get in a "throw-down" with Fawzia, we'd have to mind our manners! ;D Hee-hee! Now, y'all know I'm just funnin', don't you??? 'Specially you, Fawzia! We ain't gonna smooch on nobody, promise. PS I'll bring the drinks...the rest of you will have to bring the food. Don't think y'all would cotton to crawfish etouffe, jambalaya, or here lately...some fricasseed tar balls! Everybody who's going...you are so lucky!! Wish it were me! Hey, and don't y'all try to steal any of my great "Yusuf Tracking" ideas! ;D I'm gonna write a book one day! Jane (with her sneaky self) will be co-authoring the introduction and chapters 1-4!! ;D ;D ;D

Sun, that's what I love about Majicat, we all know how to make the best of a situation, and have some fun, even if it's for a few moments. A small celebration. No point to sit and moan, Of course there are more serious matters going on outside our doors, and it's hard to turn a blind eye, but Majicat, and all the wonderful majicatters here, give me that positive energy to face another day. And if God wills we may all meet one day, all together enjoying the same view.... Yusuf on stage. Rechina, I just love being silly, (happy). Does wonders every now and then, great therapy. ;D

Richina - I have had crawfish etouffe and jambalaya many times, but what the heck are fricasseed tar balls?
We have another lottery drawing on Wednesday, so keep those passports handy and if you happen to have or know anyone who has night-vision goggles, get those, too! I have never had to use them, but you never know - they just might come in handy.
I would be happy to co-author a book with you, Richina - any ideas for a title? I have a few, but I'll let you go first, Roadsinger Roadie! Just imagine that book-signing tour!

Darn Jane...we missed him at the airport! We must be losin' our edge! It doesn't matter, my "night vision goggles" are on backorder anyway! ;D Oh well, we'll catch him at the next one. Let me go pack up the dang tent. PS The "tar balls", I was referring to, are the globs of gunk washing up on our shores due to the oil spill...gag! The state is ready to help Obama find "whose ass to kick" for this mess! (Obama's words, not mine)

Thankyou Majid for the updates. Yusuf looks refreshed and ready to go. Not a moment to be wasted. Glad the weather is still fine so he can enjoy a city walk. I hope this is just the begining of a wonderful Australian experience for Yusuf, family and friends. I'm sure they will all be very impressed with Australia. I hope when it's time to go back home they will leave with many warm, and happy memories. So happy to read he always dreamed of going back to Australia. I have a feeling there will be another trip to Australia in the future. Maybe a second home? ;D

Thanks for the link, Majid. Nice photo, Aminah! And I'm so glad the weather is warm. Here's an interesting quote: "Each show will feature three different segments, including a special presentation of his musical Moonshadow." So, for all of us who were wondering, the answer is yes, Moonshadow is still on the menu. Not sure just what the three segments will be. Of course, there will be Yusuf, Moonshadow, Yoriyos and Noxshi, and the "Father & Son" presentation... May God bless and protect Yusuf, his wife, son, and daughter, as well as everyone involved in this tour, and may all the fans enjoy a safe trip to the concert and find it to be an enormously memorable and joyous event. Peace, ~Sun~

We just didn't think you would want to risk going to jail with some of the - um - "activities" Richina and I would surely get involved in! I picture you being more restrained and lady-like I also picture Sue there, and Helen, and Bill helping to carry all of Sue's things (and having a smoke with me and Vicki once in awhile!) If only my lottery numbers would come in...

Hey, hey, hey...I resemble that remark!! Whatever I'm doing, I'm gonna do it to the best of my ability! So when I get in trouble...I do it LARGELY!! ;D Oh yeah, Regi--you are more than welcome to join us in our imaginary scamper across the airports of Australia in search of the ever elusive Yusuf!! My lips are in a state of "perpetual pucker", you know, just in case a "sneaky smoochie" might be accomplished! Join the group, the more the merrier! PS I used to worry about saying this kind of stuff till I read the posts from years ago. Remember the hair polls and threads about what makes you love CS/YI so much?! Great stuff! ('specially Vivian and her constant "brain explosions" from thoughts of hee-hee) So if anyone wants to get cranky about what I write...c'mon, let's get jiggy wid it!! Meet you at the tent!! ;D

Thanks for the great find, littleone! "Legendary singer Yusuf Islam, formerly known as Cat Stevens, was spotted yesterday afternoon taking in the winter sunshine at Cottesloe Beach ahead of his sold-out c"oncert tomorrow.
Yusuf was happy to sign autographs for fans, who have not seen the star Down Under for 36 years, as he strolled along the beach with his wife and son.
Yusuf said the family had been enjoying the sights of Perth and had been spending time "walking around this lovely and welcoming city".
The artist and his touring entourage of 50 have been rehearsing in Perth for several days for the much-anticipated show, which will be presented in three parts and include a special showing of his musical Moonshadow.
The concert will kick off Yusuf's national tour, with only limited tickets still available to an extra concert added in Melbourne.
The concerts are not part of a world tour but are a one-off for Australian audiences.
The singer's work has touched millions of fans around the world with hits including Peace Train, Father and Son, First Cut is the Deepest, Wild World and Morning Has Broken.
Yusuf is expected to perform well-known songs from his early-1970s period as well as recent tracks. His son's band Noxshi are on the tour as special guests and will play a primarily blues rock set.
Yusuf did not play in Perth on his 1974 Australian tour but performed at the WACA Ground in 1972 at the height of his fame before converting to Islam in 1977."Ok, I would D-I-E if I just happened to see him while strolling on the beach! Can you even imagine? Here is the photo:

Richina - bring plenty of that jambalaya!
