"yu.......suf, yu.........suf," (barely audible and moaned while crawling on belly) I am here, but not for long lest I am re-energized by the sight and sound of my most precious Yusuf. Hey guys, I'm around, had to let dogs out, and take care of critters. Anyway, it's not even 9 am here, what do you think I am...an early bird? Ha-ha-ha-ha ;D Don't think so! Where are our pics, videos, etc.? How selfish can people be? I need me some concert footage or I will be forced to....uh, watch old stuff on YouTube. C'mon folks, throw the old girl a bone! Purdy puhleeze!

First review: "Tonight there was never a doubt it would be a sell out show for us to witness Yusuf Islam perform after 36 years in Australia, and what a show we witnessed. From beginning to end the crowd ate up each note and each word Yusuf spoke.
Yusuf sang tunes sitting from his chair with support from a fantastic band. Songs included Avoid City After Dark (newbie), Where Do The Children Play, Matthew and Son and a collective mix of hits told around a story that Yusuf wrote (and is soon to become a stage production of a boy living in a world lit by moon shadows) and the background displayed throughout the night that was amazing, Tim Burton-esque drawings.
A quick break for Yusuf and punters alike and its more tunes which take us on a ride of calmness and relaxation entwined with body swaying. A voice that has not altered over the years -smooth, clear and happy, a man who obviously loves life and a man whom I am certainly glad took time to tour after so many years absent from the advertised music life. As a child Yusuf survived tuberculous and as an adule he found God after nearly drowning in the ocean.
Some jokes, new tunes and some of his top shelf songs such as Wild World (also sung partly in African), Father and Son which was dedicated to his son who is in the band that supported tonight, Moon Shadow and lastly Peace Train.
Yusuf left us with a good feeling surounding us and he took us on a ride that hopefully will not be another 36 years of wait. Posted by espylyn at 11:56 PM "

Second review bigpondnews.com/articles/Entertainment/2010/06/16/Yusuf_spins_his_magic_in_Melbourne_474266.html Yusuf spins his magic in MelbourneHe now calls himself Yusuf, but the artist we knew as Cat Stevens, a household name in the 1970s with hit record after hit record, spun his magic again in Melbourne on Wednesday night. It was 36 years ago that this minstrel last played in Australia before turning his back on stardom and devoting his life to Islam. Now 61, Yusuf reprised many of the hits from his top selling albums such as Tea for the Tillerman and Teaser and the Firecat as well as debuting new material from his 2010 album Roadsinger. In his time away from music, Yusuf devoted himself to educational and philanthropic causes in the Muslim community but on Wednesday night he played to an adoring audience whose ages spanned generations - from Gen Ys to baby boomer grandparents reliving their youth. In the three decade gap since he last appeared on stage here, Stevens has transitioned from the troubled son in his classic Father and Son to the older man giving out the advice. There was plenty of banter from Yusuf as he made his way through his most famous songs, with his show starting with a medley of his early hits I Love My Dog, Here Comes My Baby and First Cut Is The Deepest. He engaged with the audience and when a fan yelled out, 'Welcome back to Melbourne,' Yusuf replied that he was happy to be here and that it was a great city. In his introduction to Where Do The Children Play, Yusuf said it still related to events happening today, including the massive oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico. Singing before an audience of around 10,500 people, he linked the songs he performed in the early part of the night with a story about a young boy called Stormy, which he hopes to turn into a musical opera. That series of songs started with Matthew And Son, moving through to But I Might Die Tonight and (Remember the Days of the) Old School Yard. Yusuf showed he has a good sense of humour and cracked jokes throughout the night, including one where he said he was nagged by his wife for not cleaning his glasses and not rolling up his sleeves while he played guitar. Yusuf will give another performance at the Rod Laver Arena on Friday before a sellout crowd of 11,000 before heading to Sydney for two shows at the Sydney Entertainment Centre.

Hello Kittens!!! OMG!!!! OMG!!! OMG!!! It was awesome!!!! I am typing this on my iPhone ATM and it's 12:41 am so if I write gibberish don't blame me... I am half asleep! I am so tired from singing along I'm so out of breath and I'm only twenty! I can't believe he was so good! He showed no signs of breathlessness!!! Okay so I knew he was going to be amazing but boy was I wrong! He was OUT OF THIS WORLD!!! I have low quality videos that I'll put up tomorrow... The night started with his son and his band, they were pretty entertaining. Muhammad is very likeable! He dances like a crazy man, which is so CAH-UTE! Anyway he stayed for approx. 20 mins. We had a little break and then they announced that Yusuf was coming on in 5 minutes... I was buying coke and a t-shirt and I ran like a mad woman to make sure I didn't miss his entrance! Luckily I didn't! He came on and the crowd erupted!!! I couldn't contain my excitement! I was screaming so loud and I started to sing along then someone shushed me but I have to admit I was a little too loud! Can you blame me? I mean seriously Yusuf was right there singing with his beautiful voice! It was great because his voice is still like on all the albums... I could feel that Cat was there! He started with Lilywhite which was lovely!!! Then he sang The Wind! Okay now The Wind is a song that touches my heart and as soon as he started I was jumping in my seat!!! I started to cry... I felt like I was meeting an old friend that has connected with me so much! He was so easy going. He made lots of jokes and had the whole crowd laughing! There were a lot of 'Cat we still love you' and 'welcome backs' being shouted about and I think he liked it! It was beautiful when he started a song and he'd play a few notes and the crowd will pause to try and guess which song it was and as soon as that recognizable note is played the crowd goes wild with claps and whistles!! He also teased the crowd twice - once he started with moonshadow and the crowd got all excited then he stopped and said 'we'll leave that one til later' and he also did that with father and son. I thought that was pretty funny! He also mentioned that Muhammad was his son and a lot of ppl were like 'oh I didn't know!'... Yusuf also spoke about his musical but he did it in such a lovely way... He would tell a part of the story and then sing a song or a bit of a song then he'd tell more of the story and the songs and the story became one. It was truly breathtaking. 11 out of ten!! I wish I bought tickets to Fridays one! Okay my eyelids are getting very heavy and I've got work tomorrow towards the end I was going to cry because it was ending and it really felt like just 10 mins then I remembered that I'm seeing him on Saturday and thank god for that because tonight was not enough! Good Night!

Crobarbie once again a very big thankyou. Aahhhh that's my home city for you. ;D Melbourne you're the best!!!! He touched each and everyones heart and soul under that roof tonight. 10,500 souls to be exact. Now that is pure majic. Soooooo sad I was not there to enjoy Yusuf in my home town along side the Yarra. Ahhhh!!!!!! Yusuf must have really listened to 'The Wind' in Melbourne tonight, I read there was some pretty gusty winds blowing in the great city of Melbourne. Hope the weather is better tommorrow so they can all enjoy this beautiful city. If you are interested, just go to google earth and see where the venue is situated, great setting, and cruise along the Yarra. ;D

Ok, the first one has landed. ;D s271 sooo happy you arrived safe and well. Appreciate you coming to us so soon with your first hand news. ;D You can't imagine how heart warmiNg it was to read of your Yusuf and Roadsters experience. I can feel all the love, your emotion, and excitment in every word that you wrote. I never doubted that tonight would be a night to remember. There maybe still tickets selling for Friday, just check tomorrow, and you may be lucky. I think I will go back and read, and read, and read over and over, every word you wrote. In the end I will have thought I was there sitting with you. Good night, sweet dreams, good to have you home. ;D

My review What a show I arrived early to stock up on merchandise as soon as the gates opened and before I knew it I had spent $140. Since there was over an hour till the show started I walked around and listened to Noxshi warming up through the locked doors of the arena. Time rolled on, so I travelled on to my seat in the 16th row, second seat from the end, and spotted Alun Davies at the side of the stage talking to the guitar tech and managed to get some blurry photos. Noxshi hit the stage (I recorded the first 2 songs so will post later today) and put on a pretty good show. With Yoriyos playing the theremin and maracas how can they go wrong Just before Yusuf began, Fawzia and Yoriyos were being taken to their seats and I called out to Yoriyos and complimented him on his performance. He paused for a moment and said, "Thanks man". ;D It was now time for Yusuf. Strumming in the darkness he walked onto the stage and opened with Lilywhite. A shiver went down my spine as he sang the first line. I couldn't believe this was happening. The setlist was similar to the other gigs and Yusuf's little break, while the band played "Was dog a doughnut", was quite amusing due to it's incredible shortness. I kind of regret reading the setlists for previous shows and listening to the RAH concert as I knew what to expect. Even some of his jokes were repeated from RAH I can't wait till Friday when he'll do it all again. Here are the best pics I managed to get with my crappy camera. I have some video and audio (audio due to an annoying security guard who kept her eye on me everytime I pointed my camera at the stage so I ended up just resting the camera on my lap while it was recording) that I'll upload later today or tomorrow.

Great photos, Lister! I'm glad you had such a great time! I know what you mean about regretting reading the setlist and listening to the RAH show. I had considered going to both the Liverpool and RAH shows last year, but I love the Albert Hall so much and really wanted that to be special. When I saw him last year (I was very lucky and got to see him twice) I cried both times - I had never seen him before, so I know what you mean about the shiver.
Thanks for sharing the photos so quickly and I can't wait to see the video. You have memories for a lifetime!
Jane

Wow - great videos and great sound! Some of you have to know what I was thinking as I was listening. That's right - I was thinking "Hey, all of you in the audience - shut up and let us hear HIM!" (Sorry Richina - we just will not be able to sit together at a Yusuf concert , but we will spend countless hours hanging out before and after the show. ;D ;D) For comparison, listen to the Father & Son video that Hurt posted under the Island 50 thread a couple of weeks ago and then listen to this one again - night and day. Amazing! Can't wait until he brings that voice back to this side of the world...

More idiots shouting how they want "Cat?" For crying out loud - he was gone for more than 30 years and comes back with a different name and some people are still stupid enough to expect Cat Stevens? How can one be a fan and not respect who he is today? I guess I expect too much sometimes.

Lister thankyou for a wonderful account of a very special evening Loved all the small details of the night, Alun, Yoriyos, Fauzia. It seems you had a very good seat, as the photos you took are amazing. I can't wait to see some video of Noxshi, I think you will be the first to post Yoriyos on stage with his band. Looking forward to your photos and videos. Do I understand that you will also be attending Friday nights concert? Wishing you a goodnight, and a gooday. So they are strict on taking video Downunder, maybe that's the reason why there aren't many many videos being posted.

Jane...it's not my singing you have to worry about (I don't sing loud), gurl...it's my dancin"!! ;D You know, "Shake yo booty, shake yo booty..." oops, that's somebody else. Don't care...if he does "Tuesday's Dead"....I'm toast!! Won't be nuthin' left but to dance to the music! Don't care what anybody says. For that few little minutes, I will be lost in my own world...y'all couldn't reach me anyway! Just leave me alone, it'll all be over soon enough! ;D Watch out, get ready, and stand back! Yusuf, y'all better hurry up and come to this side of the world before I have an absolute stroke! And Jane, I'm bringin' my tent and my ice chest! ;D

How can one be a fan and not respect who he is today? I guess I expect too much sometimes. Gotta laugh at how protective you are, Jane. I know how you feel! I assume this is the quote you're referring to: While the mini-musical teased fans with snatches of Moonshadow and Father and Son Yusuf performed the songs in full in the concert's hit-filled finale which also boasted singalong favorites Morning Has Broken, Wild World (sung partially in Zulu) and Peace Train.
[The finale] also silenced those impatiently shouting ''We want Cat'' after new song Roadsinger. Hopefully, they finally realized that they got both Cat and Yusuf - afterall - he's one and the same, and you can't get one without the other. BTW, "Roadsinger" is one of my favorite songs, and the Australia/NZ release of the Roadsinger Album has been added to the rest of Cat/Yusuf's albums at yusufislam.com. "Boots & Sand" is now at home on the album, but no lyrics or sound clip so far. Does anyone know if the Roadsinger album was for sale at the concerts? Peace, ~Sun~

I am once again, definitely, missing something because I was wondering why a hammock and umbrella were at a Yusuf concert... Feeling dim, ~Sun~
